In celebration of his forthcoming headline North American, UK and Japanese shows, Squarepusher has released a surprise new live EP, “KCRW Session”. This excellent live session was recorded for KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic and features 5 live reworks (some un-aired) from Squarepusher’s stellar 2012 release, Ufabulum.

The digital-only EP will only be available for a limited time coinciding with the run of live shows. You can get it right now exclusively at Bleep ahead of its wider digital release on the November 13th here: https://bleep.com/release/39557-squarepusher-kcrw-session

“The whole session was recorded in a single take with no edits and is in keeping with the way I was performing the material in the live shows at the time. I wanted to introduce more disorder and mayhem to these pieces, and to move away from the more strictly controlled sound of the album." - Squarepusher

Heralded for his dazzling, high-octane live shows, Squarepusher’s Ufabulum tour is an intense sensory experience of light and sound. Starting off his tour at Moog Fest he will then be joined on the road by Mount Kimbie, hitting cities on the east coast, some of which he hasn’t played in close to a decade.

ICHABOD: Boston Psyche/Sludge Act Drop Most Expansive Album To Date

Following more than a decade of perpetually mutating and expanding their unique style of rock/metal, Boston-based ICHABOD release their most progressive album to date with Dreamscapes From Dead Space this month.

Conceived and founded in 1998, ICHABOD quickly formed an immediately diehard audience with several awesome demos before the turn of the century. Sporadic but steady live shows have constantly helped the band retain a solid fanbase, and since 2000 they’ve summoned forth four massive and ever-expanding studio full-lengths, culminating with the diversified 2012, released by Rootsucker Records in 2008.

Amidst praise of 2012 from internationally-based media outlets, vocalist Ken MacKay decided to part ways with ICHABOD. Remaining members Greg Delaria (bass), Dave Iverson (guitar), and Phil MacKay (drums) inducted longtime friend John Fadden as new throat to help them finalize their newest material, what was then penned as the band’s swansong. Fadden’s style brought on newfound inspiration for the entire unit, and the band recruited friend Jay Adam on second guitar. Instead of disbanding, ICHABOD forged an entirely new path of musical exploration.

ICHABOD’s fifth full-length, Dreamscapes From Dead Space, visits new territory for the band’s already expansive sound, melding elements of their sludge/doom metal roots with a more prog/psyche ‘70s vibe, adding a lot more rock to how they already triumphantly roll. Featuring nearly fifty minutes worth of otherworldly, free-flow, heavy-ass rock, recorded, co-produced and mixed by Glenn Smith at Amps vs. Ohms Studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with final mastering done by Nick and Rob at New Alliance East Mastering. The artwork bears original paintings by Mike Kent and layout but Aaron D. C. Edge.

Dreamscapes From Dead Space showcases the broad range of a proficient musical force in a renaissance era.

The digital download of Dreamscapes From Dead Space is on sale now, the album to see a proper CD release via Rootsucker Records/Black Lotus Entertainment on October 30th, 2012. Official info on even more new ICHABOD material pending release, and new gigs being booked now and through the New Year, will be announced over the months ahead.

Dreamscapes From Dead Space is streaming now via the ICHABOD Bandcamp page.

Review copies of Dreamscapes From Dead Space and interviews with ICHABOD are available worldwide right now via Earsplit.

Remember when rock'n'roll seemed to have it all? Passion, power, chemistry… and timeless songs that people could relate to? Hero Jr. does. And their forthcoming full-length debut Backup Plan is the perfect document to prove it.

On it, the Indy-based foursome combine soaring vocals, stinging guitars and driving rhythms and channel them into 11 indelible, hook-filled songs that help define the blur between '70s classic rock, the angst of the Alternative Nation and modern indie-rock. The band consists of brothers Evan Haughey (vocals/guitar) &Matthew Haughey (drums/vocals), along with bassist Dave DuBrava and the most recent addition to the band, guitarist Ken Rose (Marianne Faithfull).Backup Plan was produced and engineered by Paul Mahern (T-Bone Burnett, The Fray, Iggy Pop, John Mellencamp, Afghan Whigs, etc.) and Ken Rose, and was recorded at both Livingston Studios in London and Mahern's White Arc Studio in Bloomington, IN.

Some have favorably referred to Hero Jr.'s music as having a radio friendly edge to it, which is certainly true. These aren't tunes tweely plinked-out on a toy piano with a banana by today's cool kids, but rather thoughtful, intelligent and expertly performed songs that hit extremely hard - affecting the head, heart and, yes, ass in equal measure.

Hero Jr.'s Backup Plan will be released October 23rd through Desa Records in CD and Digital formats.

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING ABOUT HERO JR.

"Hero Jr.’s album is a polished survey of modern rock that isn’t too quirky or too brutish to turn off mainstream listeners. Lead singer, Evan Haughey, sounds like Kings of Leon front man Caleb Followill when he’s worked up and going for broke. Hero Jr. has everything in its right place. Haughey’s guitar licks, which range from gritty to artfully restrained, sound great, and his voice is radio-ready." - David Lindquist / INDIANAPOLIS STAR

"Hero Jr. plays a solid post 90’s rock with a radio ready sound. They rock it out with a top 40 consciousness. In a music scene full of art rockers, I’m glad to see a band that’s not afraid to be likeable." - Wayne Bertsch / NUVO WEEKLY

"Hero Jr. seemed to stumble on a formula for success right out of the gate: write a strong, catchy record, promote like hell and play the biggest shows you can get your hands on." - Dan Fahrner / MUSICAL FAMILY TREE

"Straight-up, no gimmicks rock n’ roll." - INDY CONCERTS

"To say that Hero Jr.'s new single 'Naked' is three minutes of guitar heaven is a bit of an understatement, as the riffs really carry the track. Backed up by a constant heartbeat courtesy of drummer Matthew Haughey behind Evan Haughey’s Caleb Followill-esque vocals, it’s an incredibly addictive song."  - SHOW ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT: UK

US/Australia's Beaten By Them release "Kinder Machines" tomorrow!

    Photo: Kyle Shepard

“Pulverizing and fascinating” – San Francisco Bay Guardian

Kinder Machines is the third full-length album from SF/NYC/Melbourne quintet Beaten by Them. Formed in San Francisco in 2005, the band has since been quietly at work, creating original and enduring experimental and cinematic “post-rock” music. Though BBT's releases have often topped US college radio charts – including New York’s taste-making WNYU – the band is very much under appreciated. That could be about to change with Kinder Machines, which is more approachable but no less compelling than previous releases.

Recorded live to analog tape on a farm in the wine-producing region of Sonoma, California, the album is an invigorating collage of acoustic instruments and multi-layered rhythms that puts melody in the forefront.

Kinder Machines kicks off with the punchy, disco-infused "Last Train to Kingston." Barely cracking three minutes, the track gleefully romps through different stylistic influences, notably highlife and bluegrass. The second track, "Jet Age," starts with a canned bossa nova beat and is soon joined by minimalist piano before rapidly evolving into a powerful number that suggests both promise and risk. "Maps not Territories" is one of the few mind-bending moments on the album – a hypnotic, acoustic guitar and synthesizer-driven track that tips its hat to German experimental bands of the 1970s. Any lingering feelings of introspection are quickly dispelled by "Salvador Divinorum," an up-tempo, latin-inspired number which sees the band in full swing, replete with dense layers of afro-latin percussion and rough-hewn vocals reminiscent of Lou Reed. "Point Reyes" is a similarly fun track, sounding like an Appalachian porch-front jam – but one where the neighbors on the other side of the tracks were invited to join in. The title track, "Kinder Machines," starts slowly with a simply strummed acoustic guitar, building into an eight-and-a-half minute epic. Trumpet, cello and piano sweep in, leading to a final breakdown, dirge-like outro recalling the Beatles’ "Hey Jude."

MP3 : Beaten By Them - "Jet Age"
MP3 : Beaten By Them - "Salvador Divinorum"

Engineered and mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Oz Fritz, best known for his work on Mule Variations and other Tom Waits albums, the album describes itself as a “High dynamic range recording: tracked, mixed and mastered entirely in analog domain.” Kinder Machines sounds huge, and is presented in a unique limited edition, individually numbered hard-cover book CD package. A must-hear album from one of modern music’s most exciting, creative and surprising genre-twisting groups.

Beaten by Them are: Andrew Harris (acoustic guitar), Chief Boima (cello, ableton live), Jeff Ardziejewski (electronic and acoustic drums), Spencer Murray (electric bass guitar, bass synthesizer), Max McCormick (piano, synthesizer, pump organ, vocals).

With: Ricky Carter (percussion) and Mike Olmos (trumpet)

“Pulverizing and fascinating” – San Francisco Bay Guardian

“Slow-building grandeur with plenty of sudden left turns” – The Onion

“Remember how you thought apocalyptic post-rock had run its course and was no longer a viable genre? Well, I remember. I also remember taking it all back after hearing this band’s ominous debut…” – Stephen Duesner, Blurt

“...fearless guitar- and cello-driven sonic experiments that are by turns moody, majestic and chaotic.” – Isthmus: Madison, WI

Jett Brando Announces New Album "Embargo" LP + "Flotilla" EP Out October 30th on Thornhill Records

"Disarray: Outtakes from The Movement Toward You Sessions -1998" Out November 27th

Additional B-Sides + Album Outtakes Due Later This Year!

From the mind and mouth of Jett Brando, we bring you Embargo – a collection of songs with more hooks than a slaughterhouse full of pirates. An alumnus of ‘90s shoegaze outfit, All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors, Jeremy Winter rebranded himself a contemporary crooner who marches to the beat of his own sampler. Taking “Jett” from James Dean’s last film role and “Brando” from the great Marlon, Winter forged a moniker that pays homage to Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Originally slated for a 2004 release on Eyeball Records, most of the tracks on Embargo have leaked out on various platforms in so many dribs and drabs over the years. It is no exaggeration to state that this album was created before, during, and mostly after The Movement Toward You (Gern Blandsten – 2000) andJagged Junktion (Go Kart – 2002). Some of these songs have origins going back to the mid-‘90s, some having been recorded various times over the years. Whether or not his stylings bring to mind a lost member of the Rat Pack waking up in London in the early ‘90s, his songwriting owes as much to Cole Porter and Henri Mancini as Kevin Shields.

During the making of Embargo, Winter worked a number of different jobs: office temp, substitute teacher, barista, caterer, bar tender, private tutor, and actual teacher. He moved out of his parent’s house, only to experience his apartment burning down three months later. His old band broke up and he struck out on his own, with a little help from his friends. He went through four or five incarnations of the JB line up and tried on a few different approaches to production. It was the test of times, it was the cursed of times. But all of these things – triumphs and trials alike – are worn proudly on the chest of Embargo’s vest.

Although Winter’s voice, melodies, and songwriting form the centerpiece, the album’s overall style is the result of further collaborations with hip hop group dälek and producer/engineer Jesse Cannon (The Misfits, The Cure, The Menzingers). Because Winter’s songs are very eclectic to begin with, ranging from Venture’s-inspired surf riffs to grandiose balladeering, this combination makes for quite a trip. While this trip may very well make many carsick, they’ll still enjoy being jostled around by its plethora of hooks.

In 2012, Winter will release Embargo as the debut of his own digital-only Thornhill Records imprint. True to tradition, Winter pays homage to 1950s Hollywood by naming his label after the protagonist of Hitchcock classic, North by Northwest – Roger O. Thornhill, played by Cary Grant. So, when we look at the ingredients we have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blown out and distorted. Embargo is a must listen for anyone moved by great songwriting. It has the potential to appeal as much to fans of Pavement as their grandparents who still cling to their Sinatra records. Somehow Winter has found a way to tap into both worlds and keep his feet planted evenly.

Embargo will be available on October 30th 2012 through jettbrando.bandcamp.com, where fans can name their own price, and shortly thereafter through other outlets (iTunes, etc.) and on Winter’s own digital-only Thornhill Records imprint.

Flotilla will also be available as a bonus companion to Embargo on October 30th, 2012 through jettbrando.bandcamp.com and on Winter’s own digital-onlyThornhill Records imprint. As of right now, the EP will only be available to fans who pay a minimum of $7 for Embargo which means that those fans will get a total of 22 songs between the two releases. The lower-fi bastard child of Embargo is complete with vinyl pops, 4-track static, monophonic synths from the ‘70s, and two interesting takes on odd choices of cover tunes: “Slow” by My Bloody Valentine, and “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill.

Sharks Reveal Video For "Luck"

UK band Sharks today revealed a new music video for "Luck" from their debut  full length album, No Gods, which was released last March via Rise Records. The video was shot in Northampton and directed by Ryan Macktfall.

Said the band's James Mattock, "The video for Luck was shot in Northampton at my friend's art studio where I currently reside with my fiancée. It's an old victorian factory building, and with all the space and the taxidermy on the walls, it just made for an irresistible location to shoot a video. It also ties in with Sharks' history as Aasen Stephenson (deathhouse), who works here, did a lot of artwork for our records in the past. The concept for the video is the most simple and direct idea we've had, but the actual process of filming was extremely difficult. The studio is above a funeral home, and since we filmed through the hours of midnight to 4am, within the first or second take the police were banging down the door and were having shut the whole thing down. Subsequently, Sam had to play the drums without practically making any noise, and with having to mime along to the track and everything, he did a good job. The projections on the walls are just a couple of movies I love including 'The Man Who Laughs' and a personal favourite, 'The Penalty'. Neither of which bared any particular relevance to the song. The video was made by our good buddy, Ryan Mackfall."

Born in 2007, Sharks is James Mattock (vocals), Andrew J. Bayliss (guitar), Sam Lister (drums), and Carl Murrihy (bass).  They released their first independent EP, Shallow Waters, in 2008 and drummed up a serious buzz while playing with the likes of Gallows, The Wedding Present, and Babyshambles. Barely old enough to drive, the group garnered critical acclaim from tastemakers such as KERRANG!, The Guardian, and NME for 2010's Show of Hands EP and incendiary performances supporting The Gaslight Anthem in the UK.  In April 2011, they released The Joys of Living 2008-2010, a 14 song collection of previously released tracks and two band new ones that garnered them instant acclaim.  Zane Lowe praised the collection as "the sound of a band reaching that moment when they are absolutely ready," while Kerrang called them "one of the best bands around."
