While on tour with Celebration, Miyuki Furtado of the Rogers Sisters met some of Katrina Ford’s Atlanta-based friends. Finding like-minded musicians in British-born vocalist Destiny Ming Wan Montague and guitarist/melodica player Autry Rene Fulbright II, he offered to play drums for them if they ever made it up to New York.
Shortly thereafter, not without a little encouragement from TV on the Radio’s David Sitek, Fulbright and Montague relocated to Brooklyn. With a co-conspirator in Miyuki, the way was paved for Shock Cinema. And that way is revenge.
If you ask whom they are taking revenge on, you'll be hard-pressed to find an answer, though Sigourney Weaver - do the anagram - is one possibility. If you ask about collective influences, you'll get a barrage of responses including Can, David Lynch, Barrington Levy, Ghostface Killah, Os Mutantes.
Their debut “Our Way is Revenge” sees release August 21st (Kanine Records). It is largely born from songs the three recorded after getting together only once. The record includes six original tracks, a J. Clark (Pretty Girls Make Graves) reworking of "Howling Door," and a Subtitle (aka Giovanni Marks, now the band's official guru) mix of the all-in-French "Art of Noir."
For the rest of 2007 and into 2008, Shock Cinema will focus on touring and recording tracks for their next effort at Sitek’s Stay Gold Studio with Chris Coady (Blonde Redhead, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Gang Gang Dance). Danny Wood (And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead) is currently filing out the line up on bass guitar.

Columbia, Misssouri's BALD EAGLE are a strange and mysterious brew who's brand of rock madness is practically unmatched by any bands hailing from the big city. They play fast, guitar driven, musical equivalents of muscle spasms or brain aneurisms, one might equate to the groundbreaking sounds of Swing Kids or Nation of Ulysses. Some might call this, just not givin' a f*ck. Still others might see this as a dizzying assault of technicality and full frontal nudity.
BALD EAGLE are fans of, and draw influences from, indie-punk stars Drive Like Jehu and Hoover, and 70's psychadelia legends Deep Purple and Yes, whose elements can be heard throughout their new (and second) full length album "Hot Shoulders" (out August 21st on Emergency Umbrella). Most songs coalesce with mixtures of improvisational jazz and European hardcore (see the Refused / JR Ewing) and whose subject matter include things like cobras, eating pizza, fear of sharks, The Princess Bride, transvestites, and shady, creepy people.
What's more, BALD EAGLE seriously like ripping-it live. Past performances include dates w/ !!!, Call Me Lightning, The Apes, The Paper Chase, Ad Astra Per Aspera, and others, and already have set in place a slew of Summer and Fall dates lined up to support their new album.

Andy Ditzler’s Songs from Yes and No arrives on November 6th!
Atlanta label Frequent, Small Meals has announced the November 6th release of label scion Andy Ditzler’s enigmatic debut, Songs from Yes and No. Serving as producer, arranger, composer, and lyricist, Ditzler melds myriad styles and influences, including performance art (think Laurie Anderson’s Big Science) and the rhythmic excursions of Tom Ze. Yes and No began life as a multimedia theater work commissioned by the Clayton State Theater. It premiered in April, 2002.
Andy Ditzler is a composer, performer, and curator (as in, an ACTUAL curatorworking in Atlanta. He studied percussion in the School of Music at Indiana University, and has performed in musical contexts ranging from classical and jazz to free improvisation and rock. As composer and performer, Ditzler has explored video, visual art, audio phonography, and other multimedia forms. His one-man theater show Yes and No was commissioned by Clayton State Theater and premiered there in 2002, later running in Atlanta. In 2003 he received a grant from the King Baudouin Foundation to travel, perform and research in Belgium.

Ditzler is the founder of Frequent Small Meals, a record label and production company. He has enjoyed a long association – as performer, board member, and programmer – with the legendary Atlanta art space Eyedrum. Ditzler also curates and hosts Film Love, which in 2006 was named Best Film Series in Atlanta by the critics of Creative Loafing. His numerous writings on film may be found in the Film Love online archive at www.frequentsmallmeals.com.
With a healthy sense of humor, the song lyrics range among technology, the metaphysics of TV news, a Buddhist samba, economics for beginners, politics, and love in 21st-century America. Songs From Yes and No is a witty, poignant, and illuminating view of current events, and a provocative musical vision. The melodic sense and production values of classic pop music; rhythmic influences from samba, jazz, rock and electronica; top-flight instrumental performances; and the tradition of 1970s and 80s performance art all combine to form an intricate musical mosaic. The record features many fine performances from some of Atlanta’s most accomplished musicians, including Kebbi Williams, a saxophonist who also plays for Outkast. The CD design was done by the Grammy-winning Susan Archie (of World of An Archie).

Vibration Institute Releases Johnvon Watanabe's Grid Topology
Vibration Institute (www.vibrationinstitutemusic.com) Artistic Director John von Seggern began exploring the Second Life music scene in April 2007 through his avatar Johnvon Watanabe. Watanabe got his start in the virtual world playing live techno PAs and DJ sets at various clubs throughout the grid, and before long he had created a Vibration Institute performance space there.
Watanabe was soon asked to do a weekly residency at Trash Palace, one of Second Life's most forward-thinking techno clubs (run by Dave Attenborough of Munich record label Vakant), and became known as one of Second Life's leading electronic music performers. His virtual Vibration Institute club space has hosted a range of electronic music events including collaboration with the Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art that featured a performance by Argentinean sound artist yaco (Yaco Despres in SL).
In June 2007, Watanabe began recording his first set of tracks produced in Second Life, with the output of his studio streaming directly into the Vibration Institute SL performance space. This 'virtual open studio' project quickly resulted in a set of ambient electronic explorations, now being released under the title Grid Topology. This release attempted to capture something of the strange new feelings and ideas emerging from our increasing societal immersion in virtual realities. Grid Topology is available for download at www.vibrationinstitutemusic.com.
Watanabe's latest project is a weekly series at Vibration institute, Institutionalized, featuring live performances by leading experimental electronic musicians in Second Life.

Naked Nuptials: Canadian Rocker Prepares To Wed
No, the bride and groom will not be saying their vows "au natural." Although Bif Naked's fans will be expecting Canada's most recognizable rocker to plan an edgy, off the wall wedding, the Bodog Music recording artist has opted for a traditional church wedding. On September 29, 2007, Bif Naked (Beth Hopkins) will marry Ian Walker, a star sports writer for the Vancouver Sun. The wedding will be held at an undisclosed location in their hometown of Vancouver.
The decision to have a traditional church wedding was made by the couple to honour their parents, who have strong religious backgrounds (Naked's parents are missionaries, and Walker's parents are ministers.)
With only 120 invited guests, the reception will be an elegant Indian-inspired affair, complete with Bollywood dancers and other surprises. Naked, who was born in New Delhi, India to boarding school teenagers, was adopted and brought back to the U.S., eventually relocating to Canada.
"It was important for us to honour our parents with a church ceremony and just as important for me to honour the country of my birth," Naked said.
The veteran rocker has released six albums and is best known for her hit singles, I Love Myself Today, Spaceman, Lucky, Daddy's Getting Married, and her most recent radio hit, Let Down from her 2005 album, "Superbeautifulmonster." Naked has recently hosted the highly-successful Bodog Fight TV series, which is airing on major networks across the globe, including ION Television in the U.S. and the Fight Network in Canada. Naked is also a featured judge, alongside the legendary Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and Billy Duffy of The Cult on Bodog Battle, the international $1 million dollar band search competition, which airs weekly on fuse TV. MTV Canada also recently filmed Bif's home for an upcoming episode of MTV Cribs.
Walker, who has worked for the Vancouver Sun for the past seven years, is best known for his weekly Adrenalin column, which brings "the extreme to the mainstream" through his ongoing hijinx. Readers are treated to stories about trying-out for the B.C. Lions and Vancouver Canadians (farm team for the Oakland Athletics), skydiving, wakeboarding and even repelling from a 40 story building for charity (dressed as the Incredible Hulk). Ian is also a surfer, bodybuilder, race car driver and mix martial arts enthusiast.
The happy couple originally met at their local gym, though it wasn't until December 2006 at Bodog Fight's Vancouver pay-per-view event that the two really connected. Naked, who was emcee for the event, noticed Walker in the press pit, covering Bodog Fight for the Vancouver Sun.
"He kept smiling at me, so I finally went over during a filming break and gave him a piece of candy," Naked said. "Later, he asked me to accompany him to the after party and I turned him down. I've got to give Ian credit, though; he never gave up, he asked me out countless times, and I kept turning him down. My excuses were so bizarre that he thought I was crazy. Once I told him I couldn't go out with him because I was attending a "lesbian convention in Seattle" (which was actually a Women's Rights Conference that Naked attended), and another time I told him I couldn't go out with him because I was going to Russia (which again was true, as Naked was traveling to Moscow to shoot an episode of Bodog Fight). Finally I gave in, and I'm glad I did. Walker is the best thing that has ever happened to me."
A short five months later, Walker proposed to Naked at an intimate dinner surrounded by close friends, but not before going to her long time manager, Peter Karroll, asking him for Bif's hand in marriage. At the dinner, Bif received the best dessert ever: a blue Tiffany's box on a silver platter.
"Walker got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. After the shock wore off, I accepted his proposal," Naked said.
Prior to dating Naked, Walker, who is a hip hop/urban music fan, had never heard her music, and to this date has never seen her in concert, something he is looking forward to in the future after his bride-to-be releases her new album through Bodog Music in 2008.
"We are two people who couldn't be more different, but two of the happiest you will ever meet," Naked said.
The decision to have a traditional church wedding was made by the couple to honour their parents, who have strong religious backgrounds (Naked's parents are missionaries, and Walker's parents are ministers.)
With only 120 invited guests, the reception will be an elegant Indian-inspired affair, complete with Bollywood dancers and other surprises. Naked, who was born in New Delhi, India to boarding school teenagers, was adopted and brought back to the U.S., eventually relocating to Canada.
"It was important for us to honour our parents with a church ceremony and just as important for me to honour the country of my birth," Naked said.
The veteran rocker has released six albums and is best known for her hit singles, I Love Myself Today, Spaceman, Lucky, Daddy's Getting Married, and her most recent radio hit, Let Down from her 2005 album, "Superbeautifulmonster." Naked has recently hosted the highly-successful Bodog Fight TV series, which is airing on major networks across the globe, including ION Television in the U.S. and the Fight Network in Canada. Naked is also a featured judge, alongside the legendary Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and Billy Duffy of The Cult on Bodog Battle, the international $1 million dollar band search competition, which airs weekly on fuse TV. MTV Canada also recently filmed Bif's home for an upcoming episode of MTV Cribs.
Walker, who has worked for the Vancouver Sun for the past seven years, is best known for his weekly Adrenalin column, which brings "the extreme to the mainstream" through his ongoing hijinx. Readers are treated to stories about trying-out for the B.C. Lions and Vancouver Canadians (farm team for the Oakland Athletics), skydiving, wakeboarding and even repelling from a 40 story building for charity (dressed as the Incredible Hulk). Ian is also a surfer, bodybuilder, race car driver and mix martial arts enthusiast.
The happy couple originally met at their local gym, though it wasn't until December 2006 at Bodog Fight's Vancouver pay-per-view event that the two really connected. Naked, who was emcee for the event, noticed Walker in the press pit, covering Bodog Fight for the Vancouver Sun.
"He kept smiling at me, so I finally went over during a filming break and gave him a piece of candy," Naked said. "Later, he asked me to accompany him to the after party and I turned him down. I've got to give Ian credit, though; he never gave up, he asked me out countless times, and I kept turning him down. My excuses were so bizarre that he thought I was crazy. Once I told him I couldn't go out with him because I was attending a "lesbian convention in Seattle" (which was actually a Women's Rights Conference that Naked attended), and another time I told him I couldn't go out with him because I was going to Russia (which again was true, as Naked was traveling to Moscow to shoot an episode of Bodog Fight). Finally I gave in, and I'm glad I did. Walker is the best thing that has ever happened to me."

Gourley and childhood friend Carothers formed PTM in 2003 with Portland, OR's Jason Sechrist joining in 2005. To this day, PTM employs a rotating cast of guest musicians outside of the core three. Gourley is also an accomplished visual artist having created the stunning artwork for the "Church Mouth" package as well as PTM's previous releases, tour posters, t-shirts and other items.

Known as a DJ and called “The Gabber Guru,” Rob GEE has signed with Rock Ridge Music and will be releasing a self-titled album on November 6th. The album was recorded with his band, and to whet the appetite of fans, the label plans to release the first single, “P.F.U.,” digitally on August 21st. The new album, his follow-up to "Vitamin GEE," features a sound that is 100% Rob GEE: eclectic, unexpected and completely unique. The French electronic music scene is hotter that hell right now and one of the main forces on the scene is PARA ONE. Known for his killer track "Dun Dun" (remixed from MSTRKRFT) and remixes of Agoria, Krazy Baldhead, Ellen Alien (with Tacteel) and Daft Punk, among others. His music’s been played by a wide array of the dance floor’s elite from Feadz, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Modeselektor and Justice to Laurent Garnier, DJ/Rupture, Team Shadetek and Michael Mayer. Bubbling up from the underground blogisphere, Para One is now ready to launch his debut album "Epiphanie" on North American shores. Released September 11, "Epiphanie" features 14 tracks of French electronic mayhem.
The first single "Dun Dun" is both the hardest, most ruthless and loveliest, most idyllic techno track in a long time. These tracks are tailor-made for the club, the dancefloor, the moment when the world dissolves into strobes, heat and sound, when the dancers move whether they like it or not, barely breathing machines operated by way of drugs, snares and synths.
Para One started as soon as he could. Joining a hip-hop crew at fourteen, he spent four years rapping with and producing for his friends, Arab and Italian kids from the neighboring projects. This is where he learned the harder-better-faster ethics shaping his sound today: in front of cruel and unforgiving rap crowds. You had to hold your own against the punishing Maceo-style funk DJs used to preface each and every rap show with. Having the hardest-hitting beats was just a matter of survival, and it still is. Echoes of this purity of purpose and dedication to efficiency can still be heard rolling in "Epiphanie", filtered through early Daft Punk. "Turtle Trouble" was called a “goddamn storming Techno track” (Philip Sherburne, The Wire) and indeed, it’s a straight-up four-to-the-floor dancefloor destruction tool, hailed in France as the second coming of Thomas Bangalter’s Tracks On Da Rocks. “Piste Bleue" is all glittery textures and time-sensitive curlicues. “Nobody Cares’” vocoderfunk would sound good in most strip joints.
But all this is far too easy, the narrative too clean. Para One got into machine funk back in the early nineties; eurodance, techno and house would reach him as a continuous and mostly anonymous stream, via his cousin’s mixtapes (said cousin being Saint Remy, founder of the Initial Cuts label). Elated and terrified in equal measure, he envisioned Detroit and Chicago as hell on earth, cities riddled with dark alleys prowled by bloodthirsty leatherqueens looking for a face to carve up. On the other hand, it was so defiant, this music, it dared to negate everything he knew and it was gorgeous. Behold the terrible beauty of the techno project: dangerous, inhuman, anti-Catholic, amoral. Behold the robot’s fixed and vacant gaze, just recording chromatic data, meaning nothing. Most of Epiphanie is a kind of electro crash test, with a live human dummy. The surviving flesh isn’t damaged or smashed but resolute and healthy: a powerful Plexiglas-veined, chrome-plated being, free from the brittle and the anxious.

The surviving flesh isn’t damaged or smashed but resolute and healthy: a powerful Plexiglas-veined, chrome-plated being, free from the brittle and the anxious.

Famed artist and Mötley Crüe founding member Nikki Sixx has announced an August 21st release date for The Heroin Diaries, the gripping soundtrack to his forthcoming, much-buzzed-about book Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star (MTV Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster). Penned and produced by Sixx: A.M. (Sixx, James Michael and DJ Ashba), the dark and decadent album serves as the perfect backdrop to Sixx’s provocative tome about his tumultuous relationship with heroin and his multi-platinum band Mötley Crüe. The first single from the album, “Life Is Beautiful,” is already rocketing up the Rock Radio charts. Its companion video was directed by Paul Brown (Stone Sour, Audioslave), who also designed the stunning graphics for both the album and the book.
Co-written by Ian Gittins (Guardian, Q Magazine) and based on journal entries beginning Christmas 1986, Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star chronicles the highs and lows of being a member of one of the world’s biggest rock bands while also being one of the most notorious junkies to survive the excess of the 80s. The book, a worthy follow up to the NY Times Best Seller The Dirt: The Autobiography of Motley Crue, includes commentary from those closest to Sixx both then and now, insiders who personally witnessed his struggle and recovery from his addictions.
Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star will be released in the U.S. and Canada on September 18th through MTV/VH1 Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster. A portion of the book’s proceeds will go to Sixx’s charity, Running Wild In The Night, a fundraising initiative for Covenant House California, which helps get youth off the streets.
