EXHUMED: West Coast Gore Hounds Return To The Road This Fall

West Coast gore hounds, EXHUMED, will take to the streets this Fall on another rash of live incursions with extreme metal technicians Carcass and manic death thrashers Noisem. Slated to kick off on October 24th in San Diego, the Inked In Steel Tour 2014 will trample nearly two dozen cities with additional sonic devourment from death metal legends Obituary and Macabre on select dates. From there the band will march overseas for more onstage devastation with Aborted, Origin and Miasmal. See confirmed shows below.

Comments Matt Harvey, he of the decrepit death rattle and repugnant requiems: "We've been enjoying a rare few months of quiet in the EXHUMED camp, but we're finally emerging from the death metal equivalent of cryo-sleep to make some noise again. We're totally psyched to be back out amongst all you mutants and maniacs again for some beers, laughs and our usual brand of heavy metal mayhem. It'll be great to worm our way back into your little black hearts. We couldn't ask for a better tour package than with Carcass and Obituary, and our solo dates will allow us to unleash a full spectrum of stuff onstage - more songs, more production, more Marshall cabinets. It's gonna be a blast (beat). See you fuckers there! Bring beer!"

EXHUMED will be touring in support of their critically adored Necrocracy full-length. Released last Summer via Relapse Records, the record serves as the band's most musically adept, sonically punishing and conceptually provocative recording of their mammoth catalog of chaos. Outburn gave Necrocracy a 9/10 score, noting, "The album seethes with vitriol, visceral shredding and thunderous grooves and it yields not a dull moment across its 29 minutes," while Pitchfork gushed, "Matt Harvey and his merry maniacs know exactly what they're doing, and have spent 20-odd years perfecting their poisonous formula. The riffs still bludgeon, the snare still snaps, and the dual vocal assault still growls and yelps with the best of them. The wailing solos and brilliant flashes of melodic death metal perfection are a welcome addition, as is their maturing approach to songwriting." Added Metal Insider, "This is death metal the way it should be, but hardly is anymore: complex but still compact, well-played without being wanky, brutal without going to ridiculous extremes, and listenable, if not inviting, in spite of its inherent ghastliness. Necrocracy kills, plain and simple."

SAM LLANAS TO RELEASE HIS THIRD SOLO STUDIO ALBUM "THE WHOLE NIGHT THRU" NOV. 18TH!

SAM LLANAS (photo: Deone Jahnke)

Sam Llanas (pronounced yanas), formerly of the BoDeans, will release his new album The Whole Night Thru November 18th. Determined and confident, gloves are off on this guitar-driven collection, produced by longtime collaborator Gary Tanin featuring nine new Llanas originals.

With a career spanning decades, Llanas is continuing his solo pilgrimage after 25 years with the band he co-founded. His 12th studio album and third major solo effort, The Whole Night Thru, blends the roots-rock style that was a signature sound of his former band with Llanas’ own genre-bending musical influences.

Work on the new record started in 2013 occurring over a few weeks time. With the majority of the basic tracks recorded, Llanas began completing The Whole Night Thru at Daystorm Music in Milwaukee with producer-musician Tanin, who had also worked on the singer-songwriter’s previous solo efforts, A Good Day To Die, 4 A.M. (The Way Home) and 4/5 Live - Vol. I. Milwaukee musicians Sean Williamson, Matt Turner and Ryan Schiedermayer contributed guitar, bass, drums & percussion respectively, while Tanin supplied the string arrangements, piano and mellotron on the new recording.

Llanas’ new solo opus reveals a new found clarity, “I view The Whole Night Thru as my first ‘official’ solo record. Though I previously released two solo studio records, I had always been very careful to not compete with the BoDeans sound. But now that I’m no longer in that band, the gloves are off and this is a record that has many elements that fans of my former band love. If fans are looking for that BoDeans sound, it comes from my voice and it’s all over this record.” The result is a mix of Johnny Cash’s fiery fervor and Otis Redding’s nostalgic soulfulness, without limitation– stylistically or by genre classification.

“I’ve always been influenced by what I heard. In the ‘60s, when radio was wide open, you would hear the Beatles and the Stones, Motown Soul and Atlanta Soul, Aretha Franklin and Otis Redding and Southern Soul. You’d hear Tom Jones, The Carpenters, Glen Campbell and country artists, you’d hear Johnny Cash and folk. Those songs were all really well-written and well performed.”

In asking about his departure from the band he co-founded Llanas clarifies, I think people have this misconception that I left The BoDeans to pursue a solo career, but that’s just not the truth. I never wanted the break up of the BoDeans. It broke my heart.”

Going solo at this point in his career, however, has allowed Llanas to combine the experience of a seasoned professional with the passion of an emerging artist. It is a need for deep self-exploration and expression that drives him to create his music and continue to perform. As Llanas admits, “I think the best part about being solo has been that I get to express myself completely now. I never got to sing half of these songs, and I always wanted to. I love being able to have that freedom.”

On The Whole Night Thru Sam Llanas embraces his new found freedom revealing a unique musical style that is simultaneously invigorating, passionate, inspiring and a surprising place of calm.

Sam Llanas' The Whole Night Thru will be available on digital and CD formats November 18th via Llanas Music (distributed by OARFIN / E1).

Yellow Claw & LNY TNZ "Last Night Ever" & Remixes Out Today

"...together they've created a syrup-y smooth, slowed-down version of what was once a hysterically hopped up banger." - THUMP on Thugli's remix
Dutch trio Yellow Claw and their countrymates LNY TNZ have partnered to unleash the energetic anthem, “Last Night Ever.” Yellow Claw’s first release on Dim Mak, this riotous tune delivers jagged drumrolls, hardstyle breakdowns and raspy vocals.
After an eclectic musical career including explorations in trap, dubstep, electro, hip-hop and moombahton, Yellow Claw have combined their assorted production capabilities in “Last Night Ever.” The multi-faceted trio has touted their signature brassy sound across the globe, performing at festivals including Tomorrowland and Made In America, and have released music on influential imprints like Dim Mak, Mad Decent, Spinnin’ Records, Fool’s Gold and Ultra Records.  LNY TNZ make a bold entrance into the dance music sphere with this collaboration, having already produced alongside Diplo and Yellow Claw on “Techno,” and released “Shotgun” under Spinnin' Records’ sub-label SPRS.
"Last Night Ever" was reupholstered by Canadian duo Thugli and Dutch producer Isaac. Thugli's remix slows the rapid-fire track down to a more relaxed tempo, centering around anticipatory vocal drops and crawling drumrolls, while Isaac takes a more melodic approach with atmospheric synth work and hardstyle-infused bridges.
Tracklisting:

1. Yellow Claw & LNY TNZ - Last Night Ever (Original Mix)
2. Yellow Claw & LNY TNZ - Last Night Ever (Thugli Remix)

Sturgill Simpson's NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert premieres

STURGILL SIMPSON’S NPR MUSIC TINY DESK CONCERT PREMIERES

EXTENSIVE FALL TOUR CONFIRMED

“CONAN” PERFORMANCE CONFIRMED ON SEPTEMBER 10

“Best New Country Badass.”
Rolling Stone

“It is the best country record of the year, hands down. That is, if you can even call it country. Frankly, I don’t know what it is, except for brilliant…”—Esquire

“We’ll be lucky to hear a stronger album—country or otherwise—this year.”—The Washington Post

“…will endure as one of this young century’s best traditionalist country records.”—Stereogum

Sturgill Simpson’s NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert recently premiered and can now be viewed/shared here. Of his performance, NPR Music’s Robin Hilton praises, “…Simpson is a force. His acoustic-guitar work in this solo performance is phenomenal, and he possesses a thundering voice that made the NPR offices shudder.” The acoustic session features songs from Simpson’s two LPs—“Time After All” and “Water in the Well” from last year’s High Top Mountain and “Turtles All The Way Down” and “Life of Sin” from this year’s Metamodern Sounds In Country Music (iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp).

Simpson will continue his extensive worldwide tour this fall, including a sold-out headlining show at L.A.’s The Troubadour as well as club dates throughout the Southeast, Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Midwest. The tour also includes shows supporting Zac Brown Band, Jason Isbell and Drive By Truckers. See below for complete details.

In addition to the tour, Simpson and his band—bassist Kevin Black, guitarist Laur Joamets and drummer Miles Miller—will perform on “Conan” on Wednesday, September 10. Earlier this summer, they made their network television debut on the “Late Show with David Letterman” and were featured on the BBC’s “Later Live with Jools Holland,” “Later…with Jools Holland” and American Public Media’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” Simpson is also nominated for “Emerging Artist of the Year” at the 2014 Americana Honors & Awards.

Earlier this summer, a new music video from Simpson, “Life of Sin: Live at RCA Studio A,” premiered at Rolling Stone Country and can now be viewed/shared here. Filmed by LR Baggs as part of their “Handcrafted Video Series,” the session was recorded earlier this summer on a rare day off at the legendary Nashville studio. An exclusive interview with Simpson and producer Dave Cobb filmed at RCA Studio A can be viewed here.

Of Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, Rolling Stone heralds, “Sounds Like: Merle Haggard with a stack of books on cosmology and metaphysics,” while Garden & Gun praises, “Metamodern is what country music should sound like.” Moreover, The Washington Post calls him, “Country music’s most exciting new outsider” and The Wall Street Journal describes, “the album salts old-school country, bluegrass and gospel sounds with hints of psychedelia and even electronica—although fans of his authentic-country cred aren’t likely to be disappointed.” Additionally, NPR Music recently premiered his music videos for “The Promise” and “Turtles All The Way Down.”

Produced once again by friend and trusted collaborator Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Lindi Ortega, Jamey Johnson), Metamodern Sounds In Country Music was recorded live-to-tape at Nashville’s LCS studio over four days in late 2013. Of the album, Simpson comments, “Myriad worldly offerings—religion, drugs, and more—all claim to be the omnipotent universal truth, but in my experience, love is the only certainty. That’s what this record is about.”

Simpson’s portrait on the album cover was designed by friend and painter Jason Seiler, who is perhaps best known for illustrating Pope Francis for TIME Magazine’s 2013 “Person of the Year” issue in addition to contributing art to publications such as The New York Times, Rolling Stone and The Wall Street Journal.

Sloan debut Commonwealth with Pitchfork Advance - US Tour Dates Announced

With only a week to go before Sloan releases their 11th studio album Commonwealth, fans can now get a sneak peek at the record via Pitchfork Advance. The new album, which is out on September 9th via Yep Roc Records, is a 15-song collection that sees Sloan creating one of the most unique and ambitious recordings of their two-decade-plus career. To celebrate the album, the band will hit the road for a North American tour (details below – more dates to be announced soon). Commonwealth is available for pre-order on iTunes now, with an immediate download of album tracks, "Cleopatra," "Carried Away," "13 (Under A Bad Sign)," and "Keep Swinging (Downtown)."

Recently, Consequence of Sound premiered "Carried Away" and said, "the chamber pop track plays to [Chris] Murphy's knack for writing radio-ready hits, complete with a doubly infectious melody," while the A.V. Club debuted the "swooping power pop" song "Cleopatra."

The Toronto-based rock quartet is perhaps the most truly democratic group in the annals of pop, with Jay FergusonChris MurphyPatrick Pentland, and Andrew Scott all contributing original compositions to each record, equal partners with equal say over every aspect of their work. Where in the past creative lines have been blurred to create the multi-faceted Sloan sound, Commonwealth sees the four bandmates disassociating ever so slightly to create an old-school double album sequenced with each member staking out a single side as their own artistic dominion.

Commonwealth follows 2011’s The Double Cross, which earned Sloan some of the most glowing notices of their acclaimed career. Designated by the four playing card suits, the essentially solo sides allow for all four members’ work to at last be heard through the prism of individual identity. Ferguson’s opening Diamond side showcases his remarkable knack for symphonic pop, Pentland’s Shamrock offers a substantial helping of pedal-hoppin’ psych rock, and Murphy’s Heart is fit to burst with wit, jangle, and eclectic energy. As if the four-sided concept weren’t challenge enough, Commonwealth finishes with Forty Eight Portraits, an ingenious 18-minute pop suite that fills the entirety of Scott’s closing Spade side. Ultimately, what makes Commonwealth so special – and so distinctly Sloan – is how the fragmented approach in fact only serves to underscore the veteran band’s extraordinary strengths, showcasing the particular ingredients without ever losing sight of the sum of their parts.

US Tour Dates:
10/10: Minneapolis, MN - Turf Club
10/19: Portland, OR - Star Theatre
10/20: Seattle, WA - Tractor Tavern
10/22: San Francisco, CA - Rickshaw Stop

NEW ORDER SIGN WITH MUTE

New Order are very pleased to announce they have signed to Mute, and that their next release will be on the legendary independent label.

Speaking about the signing Daniel Miller explains: “This is an exciting new chapter for both Mute and New Order and I feel privileged to be working with artists with such a long, creative and successful history. When the possibility of us working together first came up, I was invited to hear some of the new material and immediately had no doubts whatsoever that Mute would be the right home for New Order. We've already had a number of creative conversations, and I am looking towards an exciting future”.

New Order are similarly thrilled with their new home "New Order are delighted to be signing to Mute. We couldn't imagine a better place to be than working with Daniel Miller and his team. Mute has a superb roster of artists and a history that complements our own. In many ways joining the label feels like we are coming home, returning to our independent roots."

Forming in 1980 out of the ashes of Manchester band Joy Division, New Order have released a total of nine studio and two live albums, starting with their debut single ‘Ceremony’ on Factory Records in 1981. Thus starting a career as iconic as it has been influential.

2014 has seen the band play for the Tibet House charity at New York’s Carnegie Hall, curated by Philip Glass. They performed Joy Division classics, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and ‘Transmission’ with Iggy Pop, alongside never played live New Order track ‘Californian Grass’ from their 2013 release Lost Sirens.

They toured South America in April 2014, playing at Lollapolooza, then headed to the US for a hugely well received run of dates, airing several new tracks to rapturous reception. New Order will soon return to the studio to continue working on new material.

Founded in 1978 by Daniel Miller, Mute has signed and developed an amazing array of innovative artists, including Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, Plastikman and Moby. The current roster includes Goldfrapp, Erasure, Plastikman, Liars, Can and Cabaret Voltaire, alongside newer signings such as Zola Jesus, Swans, Ben Frost, Big Deal, Land Observations, Cold Specks, Diamond Version and Maps.
