Multiplatinum GRAMMY® Award-winning recording star Lorde will curate the soundtrack album for the upcoming third installment of the global blockbuster The Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.  In addition to hand-picking the artists forThe Mockingjay – Part 1 soundtrack, Lorde will provide the first single for the highly anticipated film and album. The soundtrack will be available via Republic Records this fall.

The 17-year-old New Zealand native –who will embark on her third national North American tour this fall– exploded onto the scene with her Number One global hit "Royals," and has taken the music world by storm since the release of her critically acclaimed platinum debut album “PURE HEROINE” [LAVA/Republic Records].

Her quadruple platinum selling single 'Royals' helped earn two Billboard Music Awards for 'Best New Artist' and 'Best Rock Song,' and two GRAMMY® Awards for ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Pop Solo Performance.’ She currently holds the record for 'Longest #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by a Female Artist in 2013' and longest standing #1 for any female artist in the Billboard Alternative Chart history.

"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance,” said Lorde.  “The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people.”

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence,Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Woody Harrelson, is the latest installment in Lionsgate’s global box office phenomenon based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling “Hunger Games” trilogy and will be released in theaters worldwide on November 21, 2014.

About Whirr:

When Sway begins, you might at first press pause, reaching for your headphone wire or peeking behind your speaker cables to make sure nothing has come undone. The blister of distorted guitar that opens the album comes only from the right channel, howling and hanging there in irascible isolation until it seems that something must be wrong.

But be patient: After a dozen seconds, the rest of Whirr-a five-piece of blanketing rock focus and comforting pop finesse-pours in from the left channel. They meet the guitar in the middle, together racing headlong into a short section that's heavy as metal but pliable enough to be the springboard for the galloping shoegaze beauty that soon arrives.

For the next 36 minutes, you need not worry again about lost connections, split channels or anything else, really. More than any Whirr release to date, Sway creates a definitive sense of immersion, sculpting an environment that breathes you in instantly and breathes you out only when the record snaps into silence.

That bifurcated start is an appropriate image for Whirr in 2014. Last year, the band headlined a tour with the Philadelphia group and fellow admirers of heaviness and harmony, Nothing. Not only did the crews become fast friends, but their respective founders-Whirr's Nick Bassett and Nothing's Dominic Palermo-decided to start a group of their own, Death of Lovers. When the shared tour was finished, Bassett headed to Philadelphia for a month of writing and recording. He's never really left. He calls Philadelphia home now, so Whirr has become a bicoastal band.

In Philadelphia, Bassett worked on Death of Lovers' debut for Deathwish Inc., toured as the bassist for Nothing and steadily composed new material for the next Whirr album, their first full-length for Graveface. Back in Oakland, the rest of Whirr had committed to the project full-time, too, so the West Coast contingent wrote and rehearsed new material without Bassett. Joey Bautista took the lead on two songs, Loren Rivera on three.

Indeed, against most odds, Bassett's move made for a more democratic Whirr. In their salad days, Bassett had written most of the material and built the bulk of the arrangements, too, using the support only to enrich and enliven them. After a slew of splits and singles and EPs, Sway is the second Whirr LP, but it is only the first to be rendered by a fully functional rock band, having shaped the songs slowly and over some distance.

Before the quintet entered Oakland's Atomic Garden to work with longtime producer and collaborator Jack Shirley, they reworked the contributions of all three writers, massaging the material into a cohesive dynamo. Rivera, for instance, rewrote the words for Bassett's material, folding his songs into the album's presiding sense of dusky melancholy. "It's not conceptual, entirely, but it's intended to ebb and flow in a certain way-one song being aggressive, then dropping out and being pretty but devastating," Bassett says. "We tried to create an atmosphere, where you listen and get vibed into one tone. "

That rhythm presides over Sway, tying its distinct parts into a seamless unit. The restless "Heavy" churns somewhere between Godflesh and Gish, its lumbering beat and foreboding guitar buoyed by a melody that feels like a secret hymn for which you've long searched. Gorgeous and sprawling, "Sway" floats through luxuriating guitars and pillowed vocals, offering an impressionistic but intoxicating inversion of Whirr's typical propulsion. Even here, during the record's prettiest moment, Whirr maintains a righteous minimalism, emblematic of members who met one another as skateboarding high-school kids. "The aesthetic of the band is more aimed at mature punk rather than alternative rock," Bassett confirms. "There are these more aggressive punk elements - noisy feedback, a snare roll that just goes into super-punchy, driving songs."

"Clear" brilliantly paints its lyrical quest for lucid communication-"I want words/to understand you," runs one plaintive, surging bit-in music that takes up the same challenge. Whirr pushes past a pastel instrumental haze into a hangdog march, with near-whispered vocals bruised by Devin Nunes' drums and Eddie Saldago's orotund bass line. But as the end approaches, the band builds together, the riffs and the rhythm colliding into one triumphant, redemptive crest.

And that's the victory of Sway, too, an album written by five people on two coasts but executed with the force and splendor of, at last, a fully unified Whirr.

Graveface will release Sway on CD, LP and digitally September 23.

Bear In Heaven Shares "Time Between" Video; Time Is Over One Day Old Out Aug. 5th On Dead Oceans/Hometapes

BEAR IN HEAVEN SHARES "TIME BETWEEN" VIDEO

STREAM TIME IS OVER ONE DAY OLD VIA NPR FIRST LISTEN &PANDORA

NEW ALBUM OUT AUGUST 5TH VIA DEAD OCEANS/HOMETAPES
Bear In Heaven's new album, Time Is Over One Day Old, is currently streaming in full over at NPR Music and Pandora until its release on August 5th via Dead Oceans/Hometapes. To achieve the full Bear In Heaven experience, the band has released a new video for lead single "Time Between" via The New York Times' T Magazine, who recently caught up with the band in Brooklyn to discuss the new album. "Time Between" is a song with incredible grandeur and pacing. It's mesmerizing unpredictability grabs you and spins you out of control. Director Nick Bentgen, along with band members Jon Philpot and Adam Wills, wanted to film enough people to capture a collective sense of those feelings, floating around at night in the city. For three weeks, they shot, mostly documentary style, meeting all kinds of people - anybody who was hanging around Brighton or Bed-Stuy or a club in Chinatown or a drag show in Bushwick or wherever, from about 9pm to whenever. Near the end, the production took on a life of its own, and it carried band and filmmaker through the nightly New York fever dream.

Bear In Heaven will tour the U.S. and Europe this fall in support of Time Is Over One Day Old. A full list of dates is below.

In Search Of Sun to release debut album "The World Is Yours" on October 7

IN SEARCH OF SUN TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM "THE WORLD IS YOURS" ON OCTOBER 7 VIA RAGING DEMON ENTERTAINMENT
Cover art, track list revealed; "The World Is Yours" music video streaming on YouTube

LONDON, ENGLAND - U.K. rising rock/metal quintet, In Search Of Sun, has announced an October 7 release date for its debut album, The World Is Yours, to be released digitally via Raging Demon Entertainment.

Formerly known as Driven, The World Is Yours marks a significant step up in songwriting, production and maturity for In Search Of Sun, with head-bopping beats, epic choruses and ambient soundscapes replacing the groove-laden metalcore roots of its debut EP, 'A Breakdown of Character.' The album itself is built upon a foundation that's been developing over the last three years, with the name change being the final piece of the puzzle in terms of crafting and sealing the band's identity.

Commented the band, "The World Is Yours has been a while in the making, but it's a big shift up for us in terms of direction and sound and we can't wait to get out there and start playing these songs live. Expect an uplifting and hard-hitting journey through groove-ridden riffing and punching beats."

The World Is Yours was produced by Phil Kinman at MTR Studios (Deadly Circus Fire, Tank, Paul Di'Anno) and mastered by Harry Hess at HBomb Mastering (Cancer Bats).

A music video for the album's title track can be seen on YouTube at:http://youtu.be/WYRdTXN2AdU.

Another new track, "Draw The Line," is streaming on Soundcloud at:https://soundcloud.com/insearchofsunmusic/draw-the-line.

Since the band's inception in 2011, In Search Of Sun has been creating a vicious racket on the live front. Following a high octane set at Hammerfest 2013 in North Wales, In Search Of Sun has played at sold out shows at The Borderline and Relentless Garage in London, and blown audiences away all over the country with a fine mix of infectious melodies, raw emotion and an intense interaction with the crowd, all recurring themes throughout its promising, young live career.

'A Breakdown of Character,' the band's debut five-song EP, saw the single "Uproar" added to Scuzz TV's "Nonstop Metal Playlist" in the U.K.

Next week, Juno Award-winning rock band Arkells will release their new album, High Noon, in the US via Dine Alone Records (City and Colour, Twin Forks, Monster Truck, We Are Scientists, Sleepy Sun, Hannah Georgas, and many more). High Noon is the band’s third studio album, and is available for pre-order now.

Originally from Hamilton, Arkells (Max Kerman, Mike DeAngelis, Anthony Carone, Nick Dika, Tim Oxford) formed eight years ago and have since become one of Canada’s most acclaimed and successful rock bands.

Arkells’ 2008 debut album, Jackson Square garnered a rock radio hit with “Oh, the Boss is Coming!” and a Juno Award for ‘New Group of the Year’. After touring relentlessly from coast to coast impressing fans and critics alike with their adrenalin-infused live show, in 2010 Arkells secured the Canadian Music Week Indie Award for ‘Favourite Live Artist/Group’and Canadian Radio Music Award for ‘FACTOR Breakthrough Artist’. Arkells’ sophomore album, Michigan Left, brought the band to the forefront again in 2011 where they put on an electric performance at the Grey Cup in Vancouver. Shortly after, Arkells were named ‘Best Live Act’ by CBC Radio 3, and in April 2012 won the Juno Award for ‘Group of the Year’.

"In the summer of 2013, we hauled our amplifiers to the second floor of a vacant nightclub in the heart of Hamilton, ON, built originally as a spice factory, and began work on our new record High Noon.

We chose our jam space on the second floor for its large bay windows that let in the light from the east, as well as a stark view of downtown Hamilton, a mixture of historic buildings and underused surface lots. Riding our bikes the ten blocks to the jam space each morning, we kept in mind the unofficial slogan of the city: "Hamilton: a work in progress." Living in an old industrial city in the midst of transition is both revealing and inspiring; like our neighbours, we build on the past and strive for something more. We workshopped the tunes for months, chasing different dreams with each.

If we have regrets, it's rarely from trying something new. What keeps us up at night is the shit we wish we had done, not the times we tried and faltered. As a result, this new collection of songs are our most adventurous yet.

In many ways, the band has had a charmed little run, but at the same time we've never been hungrier. We don't get anxious before heading on stage anymore, but the time in between still gives us nerves. Each record is a snapshot of what's meaningful to us at that moment in time. And so, in the mid day sun of our rehearsal room, we strived to find some kind of truth at High Noon."

Arkells met in school. They are a critically acclaimed rock n roll band, known for their classic songwriting, electric live show, and workman like touring ethic.

Arkells have toured with acts such as Metric, The Tragically Hip, Tokyo Police Club, British Sea Power, Anti-Flag, The Black Crowes.

Their new album, High Noon, was written in Hamilton and produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, The Kooks, M83). This collection of songs is the band's most unabashed effort yet - politically charged, heart on your sleeve lyrics combined with adventurously modern and throwback production stylings.

Challenger share new video for "Science of a Seizure" off Back to Bellevue LP

Challenger is an indie band from New York City, helmed by producer/songwriter John Ross and rounded out by a backing band for live performances. Ross self-released Challenger’s debut LP The World Is Too Much for Me in 2012. The album’s epic pop sound drew comparisons to Small Black, Peter Gabriel, and Tanlines. The 405 called it “a wonderfully varied and solid piece of electronica” and Consequence of Sound added, “There is a grandiosity and bombast to each tune, echoing with the noise and reverb of polished sequences and crisp synth lines.”
Back to Bellevue is the band's second full-length, which Ross wrote and recorded in his childhood bedroom in Florida, on an extended "vacation" from the hustle of Brooklyn life. Challenger's songs are cinematic, borrowing influences from Ross' work as a film and television composer. Back to Bellevue features vocal parts from Ian Dudley of Inner Outlaws and John Lawless of First Rate People.

"The video, directed by Caleb Rugg and shot at Pennhurst Hospital near Philadelphia, features Ross acting as the abandoned asylum's resident phantom, vocalizing behind delays, high-voltage synth lines, and percussion." - BaebleMusic

NORTH: Arizona Sludge Metallers Kick Off Metanoia Live Takeover Today

Tonight, Tucson, Arizona sludge trio, NORTH, kicks off their August live takeover on their home turf at Club Congress. From there the band will head north, marching through twenty-two cities including a stop at the second edition of Denver Black Sky alongside the likes Cannabis Corpse, Cattleist, Early Graves, Municipal Waste, Nails, Phobia and so many more.

Tonight's show marks the official vinyl unveiling of NORTH's newest EP entitled Metanoia, which was released independently earlier this year. Crowned "challenging and unsettling, but ultimately thrilling," by Tuscan Weekly, Metanoia was recorded and mixed by Dana Fehr Wavelab Studios in Tucson with additional engineering by Chris Shultz, mastered by James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Khanate, Khlyst) and boasts four tracks of thick, sprawling riff cascades, graveled vocal swells, epic climaxes and ethereal atmospheres. Describes Hellbound succinctly, "Suffice to say the Neurosis is quite strong with this one. These guys follow the path of the Oakland post-sludge leaders and their pursuant pack. 'Atrabilious' starts off slow and sparse before delivering some doomy downstrokes abreast a wave of crashing percussion. 'Nefelibata' is more mellow, airy and atmospheric-albeit with the same raw-leather vocals as heard throughout. 'Hiraeth' actually comes close to clean singing in its shimmering, drum-driven intro, but it's not long before they turn up the volume on another down-tempo number driven by stop-start riffage. 'Master' is actually relatively up-tempo from the get-go, settling into a steady pace that's somewhat speedy by post-sludge standards, and keeps a consistent chugging rhythm throughout." Adds Headbang N Buttonmash, "On Metanoia, NORTH is really finding the right balance between the softer dynamics of the instrumentals and the spectacular vocals of the heavier sections. Just about everything in the production and mixing of this EP is perfect; no one instrument tramples another, yet they all ring out loudly when they need to. The guitars carry a lot of warm tones, despite the well-defined attack to the picking of each note. And the blasts of distorted guitars sound like polished waves of fuzz. The drums also hold great attack and body with splashy, pingy and shimmering cymbals. The vocals come through loud and clear when playing a large role in the tracks. Reverberation and extra production effects are applied subtly, yet still have a great and noticeable effect on the listening experience."
