Brooklyn duo CREEP are set to release their debut single, Days, on Tuesday, January 25 2010 through Young Turks. Featuring guest vocals by The xx’s Romy Madley-Croft, “Days” is a ghostly blend of Romy’s ethereal voice and CREEP’s sinister beats, blending tones of goth, shoegaze and R&B to create darkly prophetic and orchestral soundscapes.
Check out the Chicago house indebted “Days” (Azari & III remix) MP3 where it premiered on RCRD LBL. The additional remix on the 12” comes from Deadboy, turning "Days" into a 2-step, dancefloor melancholia.

Band To Issue New Studio Record Later This Month
In an official message from STRATOVARIUS drummer Jörg Michael, who was diagnosed this past fall with a form of thyroid cancer :
"Dear All,
I hope this mail finds everybody well. The first leg of the European tour with Helloween is over -- time to have a few words with you. First, let's not forget the brilliant emergency rescue action and playing of Alex [Landenburg]. Thanks again for all what you did for the fans, the band and also for me. Surely I hate the idea of somebody sitting on 'my chair' but this special action needed some special treatment and I am proud and happy that it was you, Alex. Thanks again.
I was overwhelmed by all the wishes, tons of emails and text messages I received from all over the world wishing me a speedy recovery. Thank you so much for supporting me. It made me feel very strong fighting these bastards inside of me.
I have some good news to tell you and believe me - I really enjoy to tell the world: The surgery was done over six weeks ago and the first therapy is done as well. All looks good so far and as [keyboardist] Jens [Johansson] told me before: 'Do not worry, Jörg. What should survive in your body after all that you did to him!' Finally, he was right. There are only small bits and bobs left - I will fight those with another therapy [session] in about four months time.I think I've been very lucky that it was discovered by one of my friends in a very early state. Very good that my friend decided to become a doctor; he was very lousy when he tried playing the guitar.
I'm currently practicing the drums to be ready and kicking again when the tour continues in the new year.
I will be back. Thanks again for everything! See you in Paris and everywhere else......

Toro Y Moi announces Spring tour
Columbia, South Carolina's Chaz Bundick (aka Toro Y Moi) rose to the fore of the music blogosphere in summer 2009 when he and a few peers made their hazy bedroom recordings the most talked-about sound of the season. Critics across the board took notice of the range of his compositions, and his debut album, Causers of This, showcased his ability to make elements of Brian Wilson's pop, 80s R&B, and Stones Throw hip-hop coalesce into a distinct sound that's as suitable for a dancefloor as it is a pair of headphones.

Renowned producer/DJ RJD2 and his label Electrical Connections are jump-starting the new year with the release of The Glow Remixes on January 3. The three-track digital EP is now available as a free download exclusively through Bandcamp and includes “The Glow” original music video.
The Glow Remixes features new remixes of “The Glow”, a track from his acclaimed 2010 release, The Colossus. One track comes from Paolo Palazzo, who was selected by fans as the winner of RJD2’s recent remix contest. The Chicago heavyweight DJ duo Flosstradamus also gives the original cut a dancefloor-friendly makeover, while Candy Panther completes the EP with his laid back, mid-tempo club adaptation.

A strictly instrumental affair, We Are The Doorways was loosely inspired by horror and sci-fi film scores of the 70s and early 80s. Unrestrained, open passages - often without rhythmic elements - recall the work of both Eno and John Carpenter.

Wires Under Tension Premiere New Video for "Mnemonics In Motion"
Bronx duo Wires Under Tension play a fluttering post-'90s post-rock churn without the introspection or meandering--in essence, they go in for the kill. Like Tortoise fueled by Hot 97, the cycling minimalist rhythms of violinist Christopher Tignor and drummer Theo Metz (both of YIMBY vets Slow Six) are more a suckerpunch than a slow boil, aiming straight for the chiming, resonant and anthemic in five-minute bites. The songs on their debut album, Light Science (due February 8 on Western Vinyl), explode with multi-layered walls of strings, Eyvind Kang-informed horn lines, and all sorts of digital love--all held down by the roiling and naked drumming of Metz. First taste "Mnemonics In Motion" is more music than two men should reasonably be able to make at once, Tignor's violins going through a gauntlet of funhouse mirrors while Metz holds down a devilishly funky groove. - The Village Voice
South Bronx duo Wires Under Tension have partnered with music software developers Ableton to bring the band's fans and technology's users a free Live Pack to ring in the New Year. Their "live pack" includes all the sounds, instruments and programming used to create their new remix "Bronx Science." Built from material from their forthcoming debut "Light Science," Ableton users can now tweak the track out for themselves. Using pitch shifted violins, fractured drum breaks, and pulsating electronic filters, they've invented a neo hip-hop landscape which celebrates the energy of their home turf. Named after the public high school, "Bronx Science" is a lesson in new-school instrumental alchemy with an addictive urban bounce.
Be on the lookout for the new Wires Under Tension mp3 created using the Ableton technology premiering soon. Tignor describes the experience: "The cold snap has arrived here in the Bronx. Feral cats huddle together for warmth beneath old Chevys. It was on such a winter's day that I began experimenting with the violin loops that I record live while playing the song "Wood, Metal, Bone" off the new Wires.Under.Tension record Light Science. This violin technique, known as bariolage, makes use of high-energy string crossings to create melodic arcs which convey the very essence of the instrument. That song gets a lot of practice because the technique is challenging, but more importantly, all that bowing is a great way to keep warm down here in my underground studio.
We're always looking to get the instrumentally idiomatic to speak in new tongues. By taking these samples and subjecting them to some automated transformations, a sort of neo hip-hop flavor fell out. South Bronx duo Wires Under Tension have partnered with music software developers Ableton to bring the band's fans and technology's users a free Live Pack to ring in the New Year. Their "live pack" includes all the sounds, instruments and programming used to create their new remix "Bronx Science." Built from material from their forthcoming debut "Light Science," Ableton users can now tweak the track out for themselves. Using pitch shifted violins, fractured drum breaks, and pulsating electronic filters, they've invented a neo hip-hop landscape which celebrates the energy of their home turf. Named after the public high school, "Bronx Science" is a lesson in new-school instrumental alchemy with an addictive urban bounce.
Be on the lookout for the new Wires Under Tension mp3 created using the Ableton technology premiering soon. Tignor describes the experience: "The cold snap has arrived here in the Bronx. Feral cats huddle together for warmth beneath old Chevys. It was on such a winter's day that I began experimenting with the violin loops that I record live while playing the song "Wood, Metal, Bone" off the new Wires.Under.Tension record Light Science. This violin technique, known as bariolage, makes use of high-energy string crossings to create melodic arcs which convey the very essence of the instrument. That song gets a lot of practice because the technique is challenging, but more importantly, all that bowing is a great way to keep warm down here in my underground studio.

Be Mine, the debut album from the UK's powerdove
Be Mine, the debut album from the UK's powerdove, comes out February 15th from Circle Into Square Records!
Annie Lewandowski is powerdove. Though she frequently collaborates with other musicians, the resounding heart of powerdove will always be Lewandowski's sparse, haunting vocals and lilting parlor guitar. With influences ranging from Nico and Leonard Cohen to the drone sounds of Sunn O)), her music will warm the hearts of experimental folk fans. Be Mine was recorded in the Mills College Concert Hall in Oakland on Valentine’s Day, 2009, by Deerhoof's John Dieterich, and the resulting twelve songs gracefully sway from ethereal, sun-dappled numbers to eerie, creaking ballads—all the while communicating Lewandowski's words like little beams of light.
These songs, originally written to be performed solo, have been transformed for this recording with the help of Alex Vittum and Jason Hoopes. From the original delicate arrangements for voice and parlor guitar, a trio was born. With his sublime sensitivity as an upright bass player, Jason brings depth and gravity. And with a vast array of magical percussive objects, Alex weaves an ethereal thread from song to song. The contributions of these musicians—Hoopes’s warm bass rumble in "Resting Place," Vittum's well-placed booms on the title track—are far more than simple “additions” to this music; they create worlds—soft, dazzling, and strange. "Be Mine" could easily be a 60's girl-group love song stripped to its bare essence, plainly asking for the warmth of affection. Lewandowski’s gently picked guitar allows her breathy voice to shine on "Birdsong". Elsewhere, songs are gently accented with the spare sounds of glockenspiel, trombone and flute.
Currently based in Southampton England, powerdove will embark on a European tour in April with plans to return to the US over the summer. Be Mine drifts into the world via Circle Into Square Records on February 15.
