Luke Mitchem Releases New Single and Tracklisting From Forthcoming LP | Plus Tour Dates Announced

Washington DC's Luke Mitchem has released the 2nd single and tracklisting from his forthcoming LP Winter Kissing on the Spring.

"Driving Through Illinois With Josh Ritter" is a song Mitchem initially began writing several years ago. At the outset he knew that the song would take some time to crystalize and become the song he felt and dreamed up, ready for LP inclusion. Three years later, this latest single from the prolific Mitchem gives listeners a fine example of the depth of Mitchem's character and spirit, not to mention his impressive composing skills. The single exemplifies the indie-folk sound that Mitchem's music is rooted in, lyrically weaving a tale of journeys, hopes and dreams.

Discussing how the song came about and where Josh Ritter fits into it, Mitchem stated: "I spoke with Josh after one of his shows back in 2008 and picked his brain about the music industry and things that I could do to help myself as a developing songwriter. He talked about 'goals'; short term, long term, places you want to play, people you want open for, etc. I really took it to heart and a year later I was touring in support of my first album. While I was on tour I was realizing just how tough being a musician was going to be. As I set out one morning I decided to listen to all of Josh's albums and I just so happened to be driving through Illinois. The song was born that day and it took me 3 years to get it right. I guess in many ways it was the first chapter of this new album but also a thank you to Josh for spending the time and sharing a simple lesson with me about setting goals, no matter how big or crazy they may seem to everyone else."

Winter Kissing on the Spring, Mitchem's fourth LP, is set for an October 23rd release date. The prolific singer-songwriter from Washington DC by way of Nevada, MO, has constructed his most cohesive and evolved album to date with Winter Kissing on the Spring. True to the form of his previous works, Mitchem weaves poetic and epic tales with his lyrical talent, telling of triumphs and tragedies smoothly and succinctly with each song. With Winter Kissing on the Spring, Mitchem has added many layers of depth to his sound through the liberal use of new instruments on the recording of the album.

The vibrant energy of sounds abundant in Winter Kissing on the Spring emanated naturally from the bucolic and pastoral setting of the Great North Sound Society in Parsonsfield, Maine, the spot specially picked by Mitchem months before the recording process ensued.

1. Driving Through Illinois With Josh Ritter
