Mile High Music Festival exploded on to the national festival scene last year as hosts to Colorado's largest music and arts festival, offering concertgoers a tremendous variety of musical talent, food from many of Denver's top restaurants, an artists' village and more. The festival, which attracted more than 90,000 attendees its inaugural year, went off without a hitch and promises again to put the fan experience first. The festival grounds, with its remarkable views of the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountain Front Range, will offer even more shade and misting tents, an increased number of free water stations, and shorter concession lines. The 2009 event also boasts an upgraded VIP experience and expanded festival greening initiatives.

This year's Mile High Music Festival introduces a charity component as a special thank you to the community that is helping make the event a Colorado summer tradition. A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit Commerce City's Quality Community Foundation (QCF). "This is extremely good news," said Commerce City Mayor Paul Natale. "The city is very excited to again be apart of the Mile High Music Festival and for AEG Live to donate money to the city's Quality Community Foundation is just music to my ears." The Quality Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established by Commerce City in 2006. It grants money to organizations that provide nonprofit services to Commerce City residents.

Tickets for Mile High Music Festival will go on sale Friday, April 3, at 10:00 a.m. MDT online at http://www.tickethorse.com and http://www.milehighmusicfestival.com, by phone at 866-461-6556 and at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Box Office. They can also be purchased with a credit card at the Ticket Outlet Kiosks in twelve Dick's Sporting Goods stores. The Paramount Theatre Box Office will be open on Friday, April 3 from 10 am - 2 PM to sell MHMF tickets to walk-up customers only. Ticket prices are $162.50 (plus service charges) for a 2-Day Pass. A limited number of Single Day Tickets will be available for $90.00 (plus service charges) while supplies last. Two-day VIP Packages are also available: $400.00 (plus service charges) for the Mile High VIP Pass and $1250.00 for the Mile High Apex experience (plus service charges).

Mile High Music Festival's two-day weekend pass is available this year on a Layaway Program. The Layaway Program offers an opportunity to pay for the price of a two-day pass in two installments, with 50% plus service charges due at time of purchase and the remaining 50% balance due on June 12.

The festival will also offer a Carpool Package for $650.00 and includes four two-day passes and special carpool parking. Carpoolers are encouraged to participate in the Mile High Music Festival Carpool Contest. Participants are asked to decorate their vehicles to draw attention to their green driving efforts. Winners will be randomly chosen on each day of the festival and awarded VIP upgrades for each rider in the vehicle.

IGGY POP’S PRÉLIMINAIRES

SET FOR RELEASE JUNE 2 ON ASTRALWERKS

Iggy Pop, the Godfather of Punk, takes on the language of romance and gets “dangerously near jazz” on his new album, Préliminaires, to be released in the U.S. on EMI Music’s Astralwerks label on June 2. Produced by Hal Cragin, Préliminaires, which means “foreplay” in French, is score music inspired by Michel Houellebecq’s 2005 novel The Possibility of an Island.

Iggy will present the new project during an online interactive press conference hosted at www.iggypoppreliminaires.com, which will take place live from Paris, France tomorrow, Thursday March 26 at 11:00am CET (6:00am EDT). He will speak about his inspirations, the link to French culture, and controversial author Houellebecq. Those subscribing to the webcast will also have the opportunity to ask questions and hear tracks from the album.

The book “is about death, sex, the end of the human race, and some other pretty funny stuff,” says Iggy in a video statement explaining his motivations. “I read the book with intense pleasure when it came out and, in my mind, I created music that would have been the music that I would hear in my soul when I read it.”

Later on Iggy was approached to write several songs for a film documentary about Houellebecq’s life and his attempt to direct a film of his own book. “The project grew and grew and I found the emotions from my reading transforming themselves into music,” Iggy explains. “I wrote less and less for the movie and started writing an alternative score to the novel.”

On Préliminaires, which eventually took on a life of its own beyond the film project, Iggy sings the standard “Les Feuilles Mortes (Autumn Leaves),” originally covered by the likes of Yves Montand and Edith Piaf, while the New Orleans-influenced “King of the Dogs”—with a jazz arrangement featuring trumpet, trombone and clarinet—tells the story of a dog named Fox who explains “how cool it is to be a dog, and how much it beats human life.” There’s also a version of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s bossa nova standard “How Insensitive (Insensatez).”

“At one point, I just got sick of listening to idiot thugs with guitars banging out crappy music. I’ve started listening to a lot of New Orleans-era, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton type of jazz. And I’ve always loved quieter ballads as well,” says Iggy. “There are some guitars on the album. Only one song is vaguely raucous; three have jazz-like instrumentation.”

The album was recorded in Woodstock and in Miami, where Iggy first sketched out the songs in his small cabin on the river on his old wooden guitar.

“Like Daniel, the book’s protagonist, I too have grown weary of a career as an entertainer and I wish for a new life,” he says. “I, too, have spent desolate hours in the future world of the Spanish Coast. The concluding chapters about Daniel and his small faithful dog wandering doomed through a ruined earth to the desiccated sea were the most empathetic and believable predictions of the future that I’ve encountered.”

The visuals for the album package are being created by French/Iranian graphic novelist and award-winning film director Marjane Satrapi, who first met Iggy when she asked him to do the voice for one of the characters in her Oscar-nominated animated feature Persepolis in 2007.

The track listing for Préliminaires is as follows:

1. Les Feuilles Mortes
2. I Want To Go To The Beach
3. King Of The Dogs
4. Je Sais Que Tu Sais
5. Spanish Coast
6. Nice To Be Dead
7. How Insensitive
8. Party Time
9. He's Dead/She's Alive
10. A Machine For Loving
11. She's A Business
12. Les Feuilles Mortes (Marc's Theme)

THE CRYSTAL METHOD

ANNOUNCE THE ‘DIVIDED BY NIGHT’ TOUR, THEIR FIRST TOUR AS A LIVE ACT IN FIVE YEARS SET TO LAUNCH AT COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL FRIDAY, APRIL 17

ARTWORK FOR ‘DIVIDED BY NIGHT’ ALBUM DUE OUT MAY 12 UNVEILED

As THE CRYSTAL METHOD return from SXSW where they DJ’d various events promoting their fourth studio album DIVIDED BY NIGHT, set for release May 12 on their own Tiny e Records distributed by INgrooves/Fontana, the duo have announced they will set off on their first official tour as a live act in five years. The live show will be unveiled at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on Friday, April 17.

THE CRYSTAL METHOD—who is Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland--will embark on a 30-plus date tour of North America. It kicks off at the House of Blues in Boston, followed by stops at clubs and theatres including Metropolis in Montreal, Guvernment in Toronto, Webster Hall in New York City, House of Blues in Orlando, Dallas and Las Vegas, The Warfield in San Francisco, WaMu Theatre in Seattle, Commodore in Vancouver and Belly Up in Aspen, CO. The tour will wrap in Salt Lake City in mid-June and will include supporting acts Danger and LA Riots on certain dates.

After traveling the world for years performing inside their own custom-made dome awash in a true rock n’ roll light show, The Crystal Method have decided to go back to the drawing board and create a brand new visual experience for their fans.

In other news, the pair unveiled the artwork for the DIVIDED BY NIGHT cover which was created by two-time Grammy Award-winner Neal Ashby of Ashby Design, whose clients include Warner Bros. Records, Virgin Entertainment Group, Capitol Records, ESL Records, EMI Music Group and National Geographic. The instantly iconic image he created depicts a giant globe made up of audio speaker heads hovering in mid-air, somewhere ‘divided by night.’

States KEN about the album title and the genesis of the artwork which represents the album title, “On a recent plane trip to a DJ gig, we caught an amazing sight. The sun was setting in the west. There were spectacular rich colors on the horizon, but on the ground below, it was night. We both were moved by this incredible contrast.” Adds SCOTT, “Divided By Night immediately popped into my head, not so much as an album title but as a metaphor for our lives. As I enjoyed this beautiful view from my cramped seat, I thought of my family in California and reflected on just how different these two worlds are.” “We lead pretty normal lives outside of our nights as The Crystal Method and that sunset scene and the concept of leading what sometimes seems like two separate lives just seemed to fit. Neal did an amazing job capturing that feeling with his artwork,” finishes KEN.

VANS WARPED TOUR® 2009

NEW SITE LAUNCH AND INTERNET PRE-SALE ON APRIL 1 AT WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM; 46-DATE TOUR COMMENCES JUNE 26 IN POMONA, CA AND FINISHES AUGUST 23 IN CARSON, CA;

KICK-OFF PARTY CONFIRMED FOR THURSDAY, APRIL 2
AT THE KEY CLUB IN WEST HOLLYWOOD WITH PERFORMANCES FROM
THE ADOLESCENTS, TSOL, SING IT LOUD, TV/TV AND TAT

It's not summer until the Vans Warped Tour® Presented by AT&T begins. The annual punk rock extravaganza celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, and organizers are promising the most memorable jaunt yet for North America's longest-running touring festival. The 46-date tour commences June 26 in Pomona, CA and finishes August 23 in Carson, CA (see full list of tour dates, cities and venues below). The tour’s kick-off party is confirmed for Thursday, April 2 at the Key Club in West Hollywood with performances from the Adolescents, TSOL, Sing It Loud, TV/TV and TAT.

The 2009 incarnation of the VANS Warped Tour--affectionately known as "punk rock summer camp”--will host a distinct and diverse lineup of the hottest artists on the scene, as well as a full concourse of lifestyle attractions and vendors. Even better, it all comes at a traditionally affordable ticket price. With a new website launching April 1, WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM will be more interactive than ever. Visit the site for a full list of bands performing at each show and more.

Also starting April 1, fans can purchase their tickets early via the annual internet pre-sale on the website. Fan-friendly ticket prices remain a staple of the Vans Warped Tour. In order to keep the festival affordable for all concertgoers, presale prices are approximately $25. That exclusive pre-sale price gives fans a concert ticket, a copy of the Vans Warped Tour 2009 compilation CD (SideOneDummy), a 25-cent donation to the Camp Hollywood Heart* charity and all service fees. Fans who snag the limited number of presale tickets in each market will also qualify for a chance to win exclusive prizes like tickets to a Vans Warped Tour 15th Anniversary special event in Los Angeles this September. Meanwhile, the regular on-sale for all of the dates will start on April 18.

The much-lauded WARPED Old School Stage returns to some cities in 2009. Check WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM for details. There's another change to the tour's landscape this year--the tour will feature one main stage instead of two. This tour evolution will allow artists to give fans a full 40-minute set as opposed to 30-minutes in past years. Ten bands will rock the main stage at each date, and set changes will run like clockwork at only 20 minutes, encouraging fans to check out side stages as well.

Tour founder and producer Kevin Lyman comments, "We went to one main stage for a couple reasons. Many of these bands have been around for a long time and have lots of songs to choose from, so this year, instead of limiting them to five or six songs, they will have 40 minutes to play all your favorite songs from the past and a couple of new ones. This year's lineup is a great mix of the old and the new and continues our attempt to keep the lineup as diverse as possible. Since times are tough, it was also important to me to figure out how to keep the ticket price low this year. This way we can accomplish that AND still put on an awesome show."

Festival organizers made this traveling punk rock circus the summer's best bang for your buck. Appealing to everyone from traditional punk fans to backpacking hip hop kids to metal heads, VANS Warped Tour has its finger on the pulse of the most fiery acts in absolutely each and every genre--from the brash gutter punk of Gallows and the Adicts to the epic art metal of Underoath and the street savvy rhymes of P.O.S. Check out the lineup below. List is subject to change and not all bands will perform at every day (check WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM for band listings by city).

Plus, Keeping our environment in mind, the WARPED ECO INITIATIVES (WEI) continue to be a big part of the tour in 2009. Facets of WEI range from biodiesel fuel for touring trucks and buses to environmentally friendly catering for bands and crew courtesy of Tada Catering. There's even a solar-powered sound system on the Kevin Says Stage. WARPED will again collaborate with Philippe Cousteau’s environmental organization Earth Echo International to cultivate environmentally-friendly programs that encourage awareness through action, and to bring these initiatives to into the collective fan consciousness. Furthering WEI's online presence, the WARPED website (WWW.WARPEDTOUR.COM) showcases pages for each tour date, including public transportation options and carpool message boards as well as eco contests and initiatives. WARPED TOUR and EarthEcho International will again organize a volunteer watershed cleanup at NOAA’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Monterey, CA.

In addition, the VANS WARPED TOUR has partnered with the TJ Martell Foundation once more. For each tour date, the TJ Martell Foundation will auction pair of tickets and the opportunity for fans to watch their favorite band from the side of the stage. Plus, the second annual Vans Warped Tour/TJ Martell bowling event has been scheduled for June 29 in Phoenix, AZ. Bands will square off in a rock n' roll bowling competition of epic proportions. Working in conjunction with KEDJ (The Edge), WARPED will auction off a spot on every band bowling team, allowing lucky fans to roll alongside their favorite rockers.

Pansy Division

That’s So Gay
Alternative Tentacles; March 31, 2009

America’s Original Queer Punks are Back,
With a New CD and a DVD documentary,
Pansy Division: Life In A Gay Rock Band!

Undeniably one of the most important and influential gay music acts in the last twenty years, Pansy Division pioneered the “queercore” genre long before other gay musicians had the confidence to come out of the closet. With album titles like Undressed (Lookout! Records, 1993) and Deflowered (Lookout! Records, 1994), and song titles like "Bill & Ted's Homosexual Adventure," their bluntness and humor stood out amidst the '90s alterna-rock scene.

Raised on 60s pop and 70s punk, Pansy Division wrote in-your-face lyrics with a sense of humor, defying stereotypes in both the rock scene and the gay community, and launching a queer punk movement that also included bands like Tribe 8, Team Dresch, God Is My Co-Pilot and Fifth Column. The band released six albums in six years in the 1990s and toured extensively, sharing stages with other queercore bands as well as other punk bands. In 1994 label mates Green Day took Pansy Division on tour at the height of their breakthrough album Dookie, giving Pansy Division a chance to blow the minds of, and in many cases inspire, tens of thousands of high-school kids across America.

Pansy Division‘s newest album, That’s So Gay -- the band’s eighth studio album (and their first new album in six years) -- is raucous and raunchy as well as being serious-minded. Featuring some of the band’s catchiest and most rocking songs ever, the album includes a duet with legendary punk icon Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) on “Average Men.” The band is also releasing a DVD documentary, Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band, a fast-paced, intimate and humorous account of one of rock’s most fearless acts. Using original and archive footage and covering over fifteen years as a group, from their first days in San Francisco’s underground music scene to a full-fledged stadium tour with Green Day and beyond, the DVD features interviews and appearances by Lookout Records founder Larry Livermore, Jessie “Luscious” Townley (The Criminals, Alternative Tentacles), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys, Alternative Tentacles), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day). With a bonus disc containing live concert footage, Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band provides an essential history of a genre of alternative music that is only now beginning to be appreciated. Check out the trailer to Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band here.

Don’t miss Pansy Division live on tour this summer. Also check out Jon Ginoli's book, Deflowered: My Life In Pansy Division, on Cleus Press, as well as a new 7” single containing a cover of a Green Day's "Coming Clean" (not on the new album).

Copies of Pansy Division’s new CD, That’s So Gay, and their DVD, Pansy Division: Life in a Gay Rock Band, are available upon request. For a sneak preview, check out the MP3 for Twinkie, Twinkie Little Star.

Genesis P. Orridge/Psychic TV

Counter Cultural provocateur Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and her reactivated Psychic TV aka "PTV3" will be releasing their second album MR. ALIEN BRAIN vs THE SKINWALKERS. The album was produced by Edward ODowd & Genesis for Angry Love Productions. It was mastered by Bryin Dall at Waxy Yellow Build Up Studios, New York July 2008. Most of these tracks were recorded live for NPR's "WORLD CAFE" program at WXPN-FM's studios in Philadelphia, PA May 2008 or at Galapagos Arts Space, Brooklyn, New York 2007. Initial pressing will include an exclusive DVD boasting 30 minutes of unseen PSYCHIC TV/PTV3 live and on the road and in the studio by filmmaker Marie Losier and other surprises. MR. ALIEN BRAIN vs THE SKINWALKERS is released on Sweet Nothing Records though Cargo Distribution. I'm hoping you'd be interested in covering via feature or CD review.

For the realisation of this project Psychic TV/PTV3 were: Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge - Vocals, percussion, samples (also of Thee Majesty); Edley ODowd (also of Toilet Boys) - drums and percussion; Hanna Haddix - samples and percussion; Marrkus Aurelius Cirkus Maximus Fabulous Perrson - Keyboards; David XXX Maxxx - Lead Guitars and vocals (developing from The Tadpoles); Alice Genese - Bass Guitar and vocals (formerly of Pretty Boys, Candy Ass, Sexpod and Gutbank); Genesis Breyer P-Orridge - Noise Bass, vocals and percussion (also of Throbbing Gristle and Thee Majesty).

Tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 were recorded direct to "tape" at the Philadelphia studio that NPR's premier live music program "World Café" originates from. There were NO overdubs, no remixing. What you hear is what the band played. PTV3 had not played together for some six months previously, basically not since Lady Jaye dropped her body on October 9th 2007. The surviving members had ONE short, one hour rehearsal the night before the taping documented. The next day they went in and played their hearts and souls out for Lady Jaye. All were amazed at how sensitive and exact the breaks and textures were considering they were relying totally on instinct, in the moment. Other selections include "I"m Making A Mirror", Lady Jaye's song/poem for Genesis previously only available as a bonus track on the vinyl version of Hell Is Invisible..., the previously unreleased mix of "New York Story" by Michael Gira (Angels of Light, Swans), live recordings from PTV3's residency at Galapagos Art Space as well as 2 entirely new, unheard tracks (The Alien Brain & I Love You, I Know).

Psychic TV was first born in 50 Beck Road, Hackney in 1982. Persuaded and encouraged by his cool friend guitarist Alex Fergusson of punk trailblazers Alternative TV an initially reluctant Genesis P-Orridge returned to active duty inventing new music following his termination of Throbbing Gristle in 1981. Six months later the duo completed the nucleus of the new unit with ex-TG'er Peter Christopherson. By that time Genesis had already conceived, named and pioneered the genre "Industrial Music" with Throbbing Gristle. Along with the Velvet Underground, Throbbing Gristle is and remains one of the most influential rock groups of the last 30 years; if you haven't heard their music, you will certainly have listened to someone who has. In Throbbing Gristle, Genesis and company synthesized the influences and philosophies of Gen's close friends and collaborators, including Beat writer William S. Burroughs; Beat poet and painter Brion Gysin; psychedelic shaman Dr Timothy Leary; queer activist film maker Derek Jarman; and those of legendary occultist Austin Osman Spare, theorist John Cage and various seminal underground authors, thinkers, artists and film makers. The group "TG" produced some of the most unsettling and thought-provoking music of all time. Their pioneering "Industrial" sound and self-sufficient approach to record distribution has had a profound impact, becoming key elements of underground music production and distribution ever since (the definitive TG history Wreckers Of Civilisation by Simon Ford is still available, published by Black Dog Books, London).

Right from the outset, Psychic TV in turn made highly innovative and unflinchingly provocative music blending elements of psychedelia and dance with Industrial sounds (named HYPERDELIC" by Genesis). As with TG, the details of Psychic TV's packaging, marketing and the radical lifestyle of the musicians were all treated as equally crucial components of the final aesthetic statement. Psychic TV created the template for the avant-dance stance popularly labeled "Electronica" as well as having an undeniable influence on the emergent "Rave" culture; the group released the world's first 12 inch single with the words "ACID HOUSE" in the title, "Turn On Tune In To The Acid House." The label depicted Superman as a tab of LSD emblazoned with their logo the Psychic(k) Cross and triggered a suppressive lawsuit making this withdrawn icon a rare collectible!

For some 14 odd years, Psychic TV recorded and released dozens of live and studio albums winding up in the Guiness Book Of Records for releasing more albums in one year than any other artist (even Elvis!). Psychic TV was terminated in the mid 90's as Genesis pursued further musical goals with his spoken-word and expanded poetry/video installation project Thee Majesty.

Over the last several years, Eddie ODowd of New York City's legendary rock band The Toilet Boys gently but persistently persuaded Genesis to rekindle her rock spirit and Psychic TV. As sincere and dogged as Alex Fergusson had been before him, Eddie succeeded and Psychic TV was reactivated as PTV3 in December 2003 when they played their first public show. Once PTV3 reached the recording studio, ODowd played a crucial part in pushing Genesis and the other musicians to give their very best, and then some, filling Hell Is Invisible, Heaven is Her/e with stellar performances out of all concerned as a result. In addition Eddie also art directed and designed the innovative and distinctive packaging for that album as well as for MR ALIEN BRAIN versus THE... The packaging Eddie designed for this release was created custom and uses no plastic and therefore is very bio-friendly. PTV3 is very much the product of the creative partnership of Genesis and Eddie.

The full history of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and her varied seminal musical exploits of the past three decades as well as her socio-cultural (or should that be politico-sexual? Or all the above!) adventures would easily fill a book (and has. Soft Skull/Shortwave Books published Painful but Fabulous: The Lives and Art of Genesis P-Orridge in 2003). The reactivated ensemble undertook a wildly successful North American tour in 2004, followed by an equally tumultuously received European tours in 2006 and 2007. Genesis continues to periodically mount exhibitions of her artwork in galleries around the globe.

Already living a creative further chapter of her "life" book Genesis continues to provoke and explore in her very public private life; from replacing all her healthy teeth with solid gold permanent replicas in an homage to Pierre Clemente in Luis Bunuel's "Belle De Jour." Littering the dictionary and culture with new words for new, original ideas Genesis and Lady Jaye can be said to have followed the serious process and joy-filled strategy of "When there is no example imagine it, when there is no word for it invent one."

It is through this deeply sincere search for a positive path of humanE evolution and his/their commitment of mind, body and soul to that voyage of discovery that such a profound global influence of her creative experimentation and current (PTV3) music continues to animate and deeply inspire successive generations. S/HE IS HER/E alive, unique and a living legend!

THE BREEDERS

RETURN WITH 4-SONG EP, FATE TO FATAL, RECRUIT ROLLER DERBY GIRLS FOR "FATE TO FATAL" VIDEO SET TO PLAY/CURATE THE UK'S "ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES" IN MAY

Los Angeles, CA - Hot on the heels of the Breeders' 2008 studio album, Mountain Battles, comes a four-song-EP, Fate to Fatal, set for an April 21, 2009 release. Recorded both at a professional studio in England and in the basement of Breeders' singer/guitarist Kim Deal, Fate to Fatal is the EP where they boast, "we've discovered the treble knob."

"We started with a song called 'Fate to Fatal,'" recalls Kim. "The Breeders were on tour all of last year, so we booked time at a place called the Fortress in London, England, and worked with a guy named Gareth Parton. At the beginning, Gareth and I were really snitty towards each other, which can turn out bad or good. And it turned out really good. The second song, 'The Last Time,' I wrote, but I recorded it in my basement - we have a guest vocalist on it, Mark Lanegan [Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, The Gutter Twins]. The third song is a cover of a Bob Marley and the Wailers song, 'Chances Are.' Kelley and I recorded it live in Chicago at Steve Albini's. And the last song, 'Pinnacle Hollow,' I did in my basement on a four-track - tape hiss and all."

Additionally, the Fate to Fatal EP's album art will undoubtedly catch the eye of both Breeders fans and Obama supporters. Explains Kim, "An artist named Chris Glass designed the logo for Obama's 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Act' - we saw a news photo of Obama and Biden at a press conference standing next to a signboard with the logo on it - well, Chris designed the artwork for our EP. He's like family - we're related by marriage, so it was really exciting and it looks really good. We're getting some fancy craft paper for twelve inch sleeves, and Kelley and I are going to personally hand-screen the artwork at Chris' studio, Wire & Twine, in Ohio.

With the record industry in such a state of upheaval, along with the reach of the Internet, Kim and her Breeders bandmates - twin sister Kelley Deal (guitar, vocals), Cheryl Lyndsey (guitar), Mando Lopez (bass), and Jose Medeles (drums) - have decided to issue Fate to Fatal entirely on their own. "I started asking questions, talking to Dan Koretzky from Drag City Records, Albini, Bob Weston, and Ivo Watts-Russell who owned 4AD Records. And it seems that now, more than at any other time in the past, we could put the music out ourselves - hand-screen some cool artwork ourselves, sell the EPs at our shows and on our website, as well as get them to traditional record stores and other online outlets. So, we're just going to press up a thousand twelve-inch vinyls."

With some rock bands making it clear on which side of the fence they reside regarding whether music should be free or not, the Breeders fall somewhere in the middle, according to Kelley. "Eventually, you're going to get what you pay for. I don't know, it's one of those things - it's not like you can stop it. But it's like, the Fortress is all-analog, and there are people who work there who need to be paid. I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think 'free' is the answer."

In addition to the arrival of Fate to Fatal, the Breeders have several other upcoming projects, including playing and curating on 'All Tomorrow's Parties' festival in Minehead, England on May 15-17. In addition to the Breeders, fans will be able to catch sets by the likes of Bon Iver, Gang of Four, the Foals, X, J-Zone and Heartless Bastards, among others. Also, bassist Lopez is shooting footage of the Breeders for a forthcoming documentary (Kim's take on the docu's topic - "Why it takes us too long to make a record!"), while the band members have found themselves strangely aligned with a certain contact-heavy sport.

"It was a weird thing that happened," explains Kelley. "The Breeders were on tour last summer, and we went through St. Louis where we met up with our friend Amy Whited. She is an Arch Rival roller girl - for the St. Louis roller girl team. I've known her since she was 16 or 17 - I met her in 1994 at Lollapalooza in Chicago. We really watched her grow up, and we talked about how cool it would be to do a video with the Breeders performing live while a roller derby game was going on around us. Then, last October in Cincinnati, the Breeders played a 'Vote Early, Rock Late' rally. While we were there, these girls introduced themselves to us as the Cincinnati roller derby team. Then in November, I was doing a signing for my book ["Bags That Rock: Knitting on the Road with Kelley Deal"] and judging a craft show in Minneapolis, and one of the teams that I was judging at the craft show was the Minnesota roller girls. All this was going on and I thought, 'this roller derby thing is really knocking at my door - I gotta do this!' So, I got a hold of Amy and we figured it all out. We got the first edit of the video last week, and the Arch Rival girls look great. I can't wait for them to see it!

ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL

GIVES THE GREEN LIGHT TO ECOVILLAGE
SUPPORTED IN PART BY RESCUE EARTH, SILVER DAGGER
AND GREEN ART USA

Return three plastic bottles and redeem them for a collectible band sticker or recycle 250 plastic cups for a hoodie with crystal embellishments, complements of Silver-Dagger Fashion. Is this a scene out of Mad Max, the 1979 Australian post-apocalyptic action thriller starring Mel Gibson? In fact, this scenario will play out in the ECOvillage at ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL (UMF), Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 in Miami's Downtown Bicentennial Park.

An estimated six tons of plastic bottles are converted into the bargain chips by 75,000 concertgoers to redeem in the ULTRAGREEN TRASHed Recycling Store, done in conjunction with GLOBAL INHERITANCE. Ultra Green is the on-site recycling program launched in 2007 where a mountain-size wasteland is transformed into a treatise on the hidden eco politics of everyday life. The new 'green' stamps fetch iPods, Netflix® memberships, premium spirits from Liquor Group, LLC, artesian water from Bravura Distribution, Bindi Desserts from PDF Foods, Flora Italian Imports and other enticing prizes. GLOBAL INHERITANCE—a Southern California-based non-profit organization working to empower individuals worldwide to think and act creatively in solving global imbalances—will also deliver their Tour De Energy Exhibit and TRASHed Art of Recycling with live painting on recycling bins. For more details on the different programs, visit: www.globalinheritance.org.

The ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL is South Florida’s favorite music festival, internationally renowned for its memorable live performances and DJ sets from the world’s top electronic and alternative rock artists. The 2009 line-up includes The Black Eyed Peas, Tiësto, The Prodigy, Paul van Dyk, Bloc Party and many more. The entire roster will be displayed via onsite plasma screens provided by Impact Media Group. ECOvillage offers an oasis of calm under a grove of Banyan trees and steps away from the frenzy unfolding on the main stages. The two ECOvillage stages host non-stop, live entertainment and dance. Why let a little global meltdown spoil our fun?

Where Green is the new Black, ECOvillage is coordinated by Heather Read and Danny Chasen in conjunction with Jose Rivas of RescueEarth.org. New tribes with corporate support are coming forward weekly to contribute to the building of the ECOvillage including Funkshion.com, a one-week fashion extravaganza beginning March 24 that takes place in two cruise ship-size tents on Miami's South Beach. “The collective sense of urgency has reached the tipping point,” states Sale Stojanovic, Funkshion Managing partner. “Global has become local with initiatives that encourage recycling on-site. Music revelers participate in an illuminating, hands-on example of what living in a sustainable planet really means,” states ECO Organizer Heather Read.

The ECOvillage comprises a Recycling Center and a Rescue Earth & Silver-Dagger Depot where UMF rations and provisions can be had for a donation to the causes. A first, BookLA.com® in conjunction with Vector International Pictures, Darfur Doc, Flora Foods and PDF Foods will oversee the “Sourced Local Competition!” Wild fruit, weed greens, edible flowers and vegetables found in back yards, parks and inner-city green areas will be prepared by South Florida's top chefs and filmed by Thel Patterson. Tulio of Casa Salvatore and Dane Iacangelo of Potions in Motion are among those chefs competing. Dean Taha of Santona Corner in Coral Gables and acclaimed concert promoter confirms: “The Chefs are slated to compete for top prizes in the preparation of a meal foraged from locally grown ingredients.”

Luis Valenzuela and Alexis Rodriguez of greenartUSA.org are providing art direction reminiscent of their Green Art Fair that coincided with this year’s Art Basel. Most of their plans are under wraps but what has been revealed is the Eco-Village design includes a spectacular art installation representing the connection of humans united for a global mission in saving our planet. MannequinsInternational.com and canvas and bamboo tenting by Kool Bamboo have been donated for Green Art's couture vert fashion exhibit. The leading edge fashion is made from recycled cigarette butts, plastic bags and yesterday's news and accessorized by Silver-Dagger, who is also staging informal modeling. Film director, Mohamed Hassan is planning to preview new footage from his documentary Death in Darfur, produced in part by VectorIp.com.

Another first, Solar Panels donated by Electron Solar Energy (electronicsolarenergy.com) will generate enough 'sun-juice' to power-up an on-stage sound system. ECOvillage's main supporter RescueEarth.org, co-founded in 2000 by Jose Rivas, began as a community grassroots organization serving Dade County schools and underwrites restoring and replanting indigenous trees, educational programs and supports Rock Garden Herbs’ Green Railroad Organic Workshop (G.R.O.W). Ecomb (ecomb.org), another ECOvillage, backer has maintained and sustained Miami's beaches since 1991 and is best known for their aggressive Coastal Clean Up on Biscayne Bay.

PET SHOP BOYS

RELEASE THEIR TENTH STUDIO ALBUM "YES"
APRIL 21 ON ASTRALWERKS

One of the most iconic and influential pop acts in the world, Pet Shop Boys return with their tenth album and first for Astralwerks on April 21, 2009. In a career spanning over 2 decades, the duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have created some of the most beloved and recognizable hits in the world (‘West End girls’, ‘It’s a sin’, ‘New York City boy’, etc.), and sold over 30 million records. They’ve worked with artists like Dusty Springfield, David Bowie, Liza Minnelli, Robbie Williams, Electronic, The Killers and Madonna. In the USA, Pet Shop Boys are the fourth most successful artist in the history of the Billboard dance charts (behind Madonna, Donna Summer and Janet Jackson).

Filled with sparkling state of the art pop songs, Yes is an affirmation of the duo’s knack for mixing innovative artistry with exuberant commercial appeal. Produced by the acclaimed Xenomania (Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Cher, Kylie Minogue, Saint Etienne), the album features guitar work by ex-Smith Johnny Marr and orchestral arrangements by Owen Pallett (Last Shadow Puppets, Final Fantasy)..

Never far from the public eye, Pet Shop Boys have been very busy lately: producing a #1 UK dance hit for Sam Taylor-Wood (released on the ultra-hip Kompakt label), remixing a track for Lady GaGa and co-writing the hit UK single ‘The Loving Kind’ for Girls Aloud. They are also working on a ballet, and were honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award at the Brit Awards this month. You can check out their performance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OAlTWrNN6o

"We can’t seem to remember how we came up with the title Yes," says Neil. "Our official story is that we may have taken it from the famous Yoko Ono exhibition in 1967 where you had to climb up a step ladder – as John Lennon famously did - pick up a magnifying glass, look at a tiny word written on the ceiling, and the word was ‘yes’. I think it partly came from that." (Chris adds: "We thought No was a bit negative.")

Tracklisting:

Love etc*

All over the world

Beautiful people

Did you see me coming?

Vulnerable

More than a dream*

Building a wall

King of Rome

The release of Yes will be preceded by the single "Love etc". Pet Shop Boys describe the song as "a post-lifestyle anthem which sounds like nothing we’ve done before." See the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InBiaRBUjUs

There will also be a limited edition version of the album featuring a bonus disc with 'This used to be the future' an exclusive track featuring Phil Oakey (Human League) and 6 dub mixes produced by Xenomania ('More than a dream', Pandemonium', 'The way it used to be', 'All over the world', 'Vulnerable', 'Love etc.').

FISCHERSPOONER PREMIERES NEW LIVE SHOW "BETWEEN WORLDS"

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER FIVE YEARS, FISCHERSPOONER TOUR NORTH AMERICA

In conjunction with each album, FISCHERSPOONER develops a dynamic performance that theatrically realizes and furthers their creative concepts and ideas. Legend amongst outsider teenagers and sophisticated arts elite alike, the shows are renowned for their rich mix of art, dance, music and fashion. Hairy monsters, feathered chorus girls spitting blood, raucous new versions of their underground hits, and storms of glitter - a FISCHERSPOONER show is a phantasmagoric experience that is all the way live.

Accompanying the digital minimalism of #1 was a visually maximalist punk pop road show. The fraught tensions of Odyssey were realized in a dramatic rock performance drawing on ideas from the high Romantic era. With Entertainment, the group directly addresses its ongoing exploration of art and entertainment in a show that references Vaudeville, Japanese Kabuki and avant-garde theatre. "It's not art versus entertainment," says front man Casey Spooner, "It is art AND entertainment."

Having returned to their independent roots in the creation of the music, the live show has similarly been developed in tandem over the years of writing the album. During this process, Spooner appeared with legendary experimental company The Wooster Group in their unique production of Hamlet. This led to a series of workshops with the entire Fischerspooner company being trained in many of the company's signature techniques, which are now integrated with their own brand of postmodern showmanship.

Longtime choreographer Vanessa Walters has created intricate and explosive dances that blend a vigorous future pop aesthetic with classical and modern technique. Musical director Ian Pai continues to trigger the FISCHERSPOONER song catalog, and new collaborator Andrew Schneider adds a new layer of detailed video art.

You never know what quite to expect from a FISCHERSPOONER performance, but it's safe to say that you have to be there. Don't miss out, it's not the same on video.

INTRODUCING: CYBERSUTRA

LIVE ELECTRONIC MUSIC PROJECT
RELEASES “I SEE FIRE” FEATURING JACINDA
ON KULT RECORDS VIA BEATPORT

Producers, performers and radio hosts, CYBERSUTRA is the live electronic music project from West Coast-based DJ and percussionist Scott Binder (via San Francisco) and producer Nathan Heal (via Seattle). Weaving together elements of electro house, melodic trance and live improvisation, the duo have designed their sound by fusing live performance with dance music while reaching out around the globe to collaborate with top vocalists on sensational new tracks. Their most recent single “I See Fire” featuring Jacinda just debuted on Billboard’s Club Play Chart and is available now through KULT Records/BeatPort with remixes by Karmatronic, Gabriel Robella, Brian Gionfriddo and Asi Givati.

Look for the duo to appear in London on February 14 (venue TBD), Club Heaven in Seattle on March 6 and at the Winter Music Conference in Miami on March 26. For two years in a row, CyberSutra has been a featured artist in San Francisco's LoveFest. With Nathan Heal on keys, Scott Binder on turntables and African percussion, and special guest vocalists, CyberSutra performed many of their original tracks before thousands of people.

CyberSutra’s recent releases are receiving endorsements from the legends of dance music, including Pete Tong, Judge Jules and DJ Dan. They have produced tracks with Marcia Juell, the graceful vocalist featured in Matt Darey's hit single, "Beautiful Day"; Tiff Lacey, one of the UK's brightest stars; and Shena, the sensational vocalist featured in "Watch Out" and "The Weekend.” Their first radio hit "Summer Sutra" topped charts on dance radio stations around the world. Its follow-up "Lick it" was handpicked by DJ Dan for release on his label, InStereo Recordings in March of 2008. By the time it hit the streets, it had already found its way into the hands of Marco V, Amber D, Judge Jules and other top DJs around the globe.

In December of 2007, CyberSutra landed a weekly hour-long slot on Pure.Fm, a leading internet radio station. Calling their show "Spektrum," the duo decided early on that instead of doing a simple mix, they would incorporate keyboards, bringing it closer to a live CyberSutra set. They have also featured guest mixes from some of the hottest DJs from around the globe, including Ferry Corsten, Judge Jules, DJ Dan, Wolfgang Gartner and Amber D to name a few.

Because of their love for combining the best elements from two prominent genres--electro house and trance--the boys are creating their own unique category of music that is fresh and appeals to a very wide scope of electronic music listeners across the globe. The duo of CyberSutra creates on the cutting edge of the electronic music industry and is quickly becoming the hottest act in the states and abroad.
