“Bold. Brash. Boisterous. Teeming with hooks and spilling over with attitude. If this is how you prefer your rock n’ roll, you have a new hero for 2012. He goes by the name Devin.”— KCRW
Brooklyn recording artist Devin is releasing the video for his new song “Nineteen,” now up on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQsai9zq8Zw. Featuring Devin and Grace J. Lee as characters in a karaoke video, the music video for “Nineteen” is directed by Raymond Park and produced by Steve Jewett, Devin’s bass player. Devin recently spent six months touring in support of his Frenchkiss Records album Romancing, whichRolling Stone called a “gleeful romp” and Time Out New York hailed as a “hip-thrusting, beer-sloshing record that fairly drips with swagger.” After the nationwide tour, Devin returned to Brooklyn with a renewed interest in songwriting: “Nineteen,” his first new song since the release of Romancing, is a softer, more melodic track and marks a more nuanced musical direction.
“Nineteen” is entirely self-produced, with Devin playing all of the instruments except the drums, marking the first time that Angus Tarnawsky, Devin’s touring drumemr, has made an appearance on a Devin recording The song was recorded in a tiny windowless rehearsal space amongst the incesant noise of neighboring doom-metal bands.. This self-recorded approach allows the listener to hear Devin’s spontaneous musical ideas, as they are recorded moments after being written.
Devin is now back on the road: he’ll be playing several showcases at the CMJ festival, touring with the Dum Dum Girls, and playing the Fun, Fun, Fun festival in Austin, TX; please see below for a complete list of dates.
