FONTANELLE Drop Jazz-Funk-Fusion Attack From Southern Lord Debut Via Pitchfork

Jazz-fusion sextet FONTANELLE today drop another funkified track from their new LP, Vitamin F, set for release via Southern Lord on October 23rd.

The near five-minute-long “Traumaturge” features guest musicians Jef Brown on baritone/soprano sax and Hans Teuber on bass clarinet, adding layers of awesome woodwind persuasion to the deft jam-out atmosphere created by the usual suspects that form the Portland-based outfit.

Pitchfork is hosting an exclusive stream of “Traumaturge” alongside a killer feature with FONTANELLE’s Rex Ritter and Brian Foote, RIGHT HERE.

Spin Magazine is streaming “When The Fire Hits The Forest” from the album AT THIS LOCATION.

FONTANELLE’s first recording in nearly a decade, Vitamin F is a masterpiece of fuzzed out funk, and a tour de force in improvisation. Adding an array of horn players, many of whom were heard on the most recent sunn 0))) LP Monoliths & Dimensions, the band have fortified their jazz vocabulary and conjured a burly fusion approach that has been dubbed “White Magus” – a sound sure to appeal to fans of Miles Davis (circa 1969-74), Tortise and Mahavishnu Orchestra. OnVitamin F – the full FONTANELLE lineup including Rex Ritter, Andy Brown, Mat Morgan, Borg Norm, Brian Foote and Paul Dickow – guest contributions from Gentry Densley (Eagle Twin), Steve Moore (sunn 0))), Earth), Hans Teuber, Eric Walton (Skerik), Jef Brown (Jackie-O MF) and Dave Carter add to the mix of influences culminating in this forty-three minute adventure, all engineered by the infamous Randall Dunn (sunn 0))), Black Mountain, Wolves in the Throne Room).

West Coast folks can check out FONTANELLE live, opening for Earth on their upcoming North American tour this October. Watch for more gigs to be announced in the coming weeks.
