Indie rock band The World Record, featuring Andy Creighton (Guitars/Vox), Aaron Ballard (Bass), Brian James (guitarist) and drummer Jacob Summers (LauraLaura, The Rhone Occupation), bring you their second full-length album, Freeway Special. The double-LP is available today through Squid vs Whale label and can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, and independent record stores across the country.

The band will be performing for the first time since the record release for all their fans at Origami Vinyl in Los Angeles on October 12th. Origami Vinyl is located at 1816 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026. More information can be found here: http://www.theworldrecord.net/

Lead vocalist, Andy Creighton is pleased that the day has finally arrived where everyone can hear the record. Creighton rejoiced, "It's like we gave birth to twins we've been carrying for 4 years, except not nearly as painful as that would probably be. We are very proud parents."

With influences ranging from bands like The Records, The dB’s, Blue Öyster Cult, and Big Star, The World Record have crafted their own take on rock. Freeway Special, their first album since 2006, is a collection of songs which speak to a time when it was important to make a lasting impression. Buzzbands raved: “Every time you hear the World Record play or revisit their muscular but underdressed album from four years ago, “Guitars Forever,” you’re reminded of the music’s staying power. Singer-guitarist Andy Creighton is as faithful and persistent as he is prolific. The World Record’s new album “Freeway Special” is a double-LP with a staggering 17 tracks, most of which contain guitar pop’s three major food groups: crackling licks, chunky rhythms and relentlessly catchy choruses.”

The band formed in 2003 after songwriter Andy Creighton (Apex Manor, Papercuts, Foreign Born) began passing a solo album around to friends. Soon Creighton was playing out as The World Record backed by a transient lineup that included members of The Broken West, Wildcat Wildcat, The Parson Red Heads, Dashboard Confessional, and even Toad the Wet Sprocket. In 2006 they released Guitars Forever on Tallboy Records, where it landed on CMJ’s chart entry at #107. “The band offers the instant-favorite choruses and bouncing rock rhythms favored by acts ranging from Big Star to Fountains of Wayne, with a hearty helping of sincere lyricism” said The Los Angeles Times.

Aquarium Drunkard said: "Sure, name checking a band as the West Coast heir apparent to Big Star is a bold statement, brave in fact, but that’s exactly how I’ve been hailing The World Record of late." During this time the song "We're #1" made appearances in several TV shows including Gossip Girl and How I Met Your Mother and Fox’s New Girl.

Receiving praise from L.A. Times, LAist, You Ain’t No Picasso and others, The World Record rarely venture outside of Southern California. Now, Freeway Special is about to deliver the band to a much wider national audience with a tour that will be announced soon!
