elliott brood announces fall tour with wintersleep, free mp3 download of 'ziggy stardust' cover

"Toronto trio Elliott Brood brings this twilight of the night right into the parlor of our thoughts. When they play and sing, it's as if they're getting us to a place that was built specifically for the telling of the tales of callous and the wearing out of people who have been through more years and more pairs of shoes than they could ever possibly remember. They're proof that life goes on - with or without you, but usually with you because there's really not much choice to be had. You get dirty, you wash up and then you just go ahead and get dirty again - until the next time you wash up comes around. We sink ourselves into these cycles, where days inevitably become months and - as the process would suggest - the months become years, until they're all taken back." - Daytrotter

Early 2012 saw Canadian trio Elliott BROOD's widely successful release of "Days Into Years" through Paper Bag Records. Receiving accolades for the album's lush, energetic instrumentation and the raspy croon of front man Mark Sasso's vocals, the band sold out shows and gained multitudes of new fans across the nation.

Elliott BROOD have been carving a serious name for themselves, emerging out of the new generation of roots revival music, characterized by their rustic style and candidly honest songwriting. Their music tells "a macabre story" (NPR) and "and sounds at home just about anywhere" (KEXP). Inspired by love and loss, Days Into Years explores the relatonship between storytelling and history, nostalgia and loss. “If I Get Old” daydreams of making it through difficult times, be they in the trenches or a sickbed, and finding a nice place in the country to live out one’s final moments. "Days Into Years" presents these reflections as a celebration of life, particularly on the perfect summer single “Northern Air,” a love letter both to the rural Ontario landscape and the memory of a departed friend whose spirit now resides there.

This Fall, Elliott BROOD are excited to announce a selection of co-headlining dates across the US with Canadian indie-rock outfit Wintersleep. The band will also be touring extensively through Canada and the United Kingdom as well (full list of dates here).

To celebrate, the band is offering an exclusive free download of their cover of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" (download link above). The track is featured on a larger compilation compiled by Paper Bag Records, including renditions by Austra & CFCF, PS I Love You, Young Galaxy, Rural Alberta Advantage, and Cuff The Duke.

Elliott BROOD are Casey Laforet (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass pedals, bass guitar, mandolin, banjo, lap steel, vocals) Mark Sasso (banjo, guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Stephen Pitkin (percussion, drums, piano, vocals).

"Elliott BROOD digs deep into its own emotional imagination on its third full-length Days Into Years...As embodied in guitarist Mark Sasso‘s raspy croon, the record simply finds and holds a perfect balance between head and heart, letting careful consideration hold hands with heartfelt artistry." - The Big Takeover

"With their sharp suits and sharper-still songs, Elliott BROOD embrace an Americana tinged but distinctly Canadian take on alt-country...they already had the style, but with this bold step forwards, Elliott BROOD now have their songs" - Q Magazine

"Mesmerizing alt-country...On their terrific Wilco-esque third album." - Uncut Magazine

"Put this record on while you drive through the wilds of wherever you currently reside and let Elliott BROOD be your guide." - QRO Magazine

"Elliott BROOD see themselves as time travelers, a vision that is supported by the story lines on Days Into Years. The Toronto-based outfit use history like crate diggers unearth vinyl for new bears and bits." - The Alternate Root
