After Windhand’s vigorous months of tour and collecting high marks for their second full-length, Soma, Richmond’s favorite psyche-doomers are excited to announce they’re performing at Maryland Deathfest 2014. Next week kicks off their European leg and they return to the US playing with High On Fire and Kvelertak plus a short stint in the Southwest with Power Trip and Mammoth Grinder. In celebration, Windhand have shared a free download with Noisey of the single “Feral Bones.”
Soma, which is out now on Relapse Records, is nothing short of transcendent. Propelled by singer Dorthia Cottrell’s beautifully haunting bellow, Windhand’s dual guitar attack sounds like the glorious misfit offspring of Black Sabbath and Nirvana. Formed in 2009, Windhand (Asechiah Bogdan - Guitar, Parker Chandler - Bass, Dorthia Cottrell - Vocals, Garrett Morris - Guitar, and Ryan Wolfe - Drums) play what has been described as a tinnitus inducing mix of eerie psychedelia and haunting ambient doom. 2012 saw the release of their self-titled, debut LP via Forcefield Records and was critically acclaimed by Decibel, Pitchfork, CVLT Nation and many more.
