After a fantastic year that saw his debut album notch up huge critical acclaim, BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT moves on from Make Me Believe In Hope with a brand new EP, IN YOUR CARE (release date: November 24, 2013).
Having spent much time playing across the US in the last year, Rod Thomas spent most of the year away from friends and family. In Your Care looks at distance between families when people move away, and what keeps them together. Written and produced with long-term writing partner Jon Shave of The Invisible Men, the track uses a more filmic orchestration and pulsates with heavier beats than on his previous work. Already a firm favourite with fans from a few outings at shows in the last few months, In Your Care offers a glimpse of how his writing and production has moved on from his debut offering.
"An Open Heart" was written with Ian Masterson who produced some of Rod's favourite 90s remixes as Trouser Enthusiasts. An all-out electronic pop song, "An Open Heart" looks at perception and how easy it is to miss the beauty of a moment. Whereas the debut record looked at what a place or a person can tease out in you, these new songs look at how you see your surroundings - what it is you see and what it is you miss.

When he toured with Ellie Goulding, "Same Dream" was one of the tracks that fans loved in the set. It didn't quite fit with the last record, but it finds a home on this EP as a bridge between Rod's love of the dancefloor and between old and new material. Written and produced with Andy Chatterley (UNKLE, Nerina Pallot, Kylie Minogue), it is a dance song written about losing yourself to someone and losing yourself in the moment.
"Movement In The Dark" follows the more filmic aesthetic. Drawing reference from his love of Italian horror filmmaker Dario Argento, particularly "Phemonema", the track is a brooding piece laden with strings, piano and beats telling the story of a metamorphosis. Dreamier and darker than the other tracks, "Movement In The Dark" rounds off the EP with a reminder that while Rod loves and loves making pop music, there's another side to the songwriting less suited to the dancefloor, but still very much part of the fibres of Bright Light Bright Light.
Bright Light Bright Light will be performing select U.S. in the coming months in support of In Your Care. He plays NYC's Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street NY, NY 10003) on Friday, October 25th. Tickets are still available athttp://tickets.joespub.com/order/?prod=22800&perf=22801.
