Now located in Lehigh Valley, PA, Blues Control's
Russ Waterhouse and Lea Choconceived Valley
Tangents, their first album for Drag City, far
from the maddening crowds that they'd previous swarmed with and composed among.
Perhaps this is the reason for the more homegrown, natural feel of the
music behind their signature Debussy via Guaraldi qua Bley qua Hornsby
pianisms, and the playful juxtapositions of a full spectrum of rock colors:
stadium, industrial, psych and prog (to name just a few). As with each of their
previous albums, Valley Tangents is a full (r)evolution ahead
of what came before, at times an unrecognizable new blend of sounds to call
Blues Control. Listen to Valley Tangents in its entirety
via Ad Hoc and see for yourself.
"By realizing that following the footsteps of your
elders is deeper than looking or sounding like them, they've managed to make
one of the best, classically 'rock' albums in recent memory. It's all about
going back to what it was all about in the first place: making a mess of the
status quo." - Ad Hoc
Catch Blues Control's Lea Cho (keyboards) and Russ
Waterhouse (guitar, synth, tapes) live throughout the summer.
