DAVID MAYFIELD PARADE RELEASES STUNNING SELF-TITLED DEBUT

Grammy-nominated musician and producer David Mayfield released his debut album, The David Mayfield Parade, last week on 9th Grade Records (January 4, 2011), and there is already a strong buzz surrounding the release. In fact, Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Songs called it “an absolutely brilliant record.” The album is Mayfield’s debut and the label was co-founded by Mayfield and his current manager, Josh Joplin, and the music on it effortlessly ventures from classic AM radio rock with lush string arrangements to unadorned alt-country ballads whose lovelorn subjects evoke the outlaw songs of the early 70’s. It succeeds and endures because at its heart it does not pretend to be anything but what it is, a sincere rock record.

"I had these songs together and knew I wanted to make a record,” said Mayfield. “I had just finished a long tour with Cadillac Sky, and when I got home I called my good friend Bob Cesare (Drums) in Akron, Ohio. Bob played drums on my sister’s record, Blasphemy So Heartfelt, as well as Dan Auerbach's solo record. I knew he would understand my concept for how the Parade should sound. We recorded the majority of the album live at Bobs using his huge collection of vintage guitars and amps. After that we drove down to North Carolina and my fiends The Avett Brothers where kind enough to sing and play on about half the record. They bring such an honest emotion to this project, and I couldn't imagine it without them."

Mayfield, known to be a force of nature on stage with boundless energy and enthusiasm for performing, also has a sincerity that is reflected in every performance. There is no posturing, no façade, nothing but great songs and the instruments to play them. His ability to connect with audiences from performances at Bonnaroo and MerleFest, to NPR’s Mountain Stage and The Grand Ole Opry, have earned him the reputation of being the kind of extraordinary artist who goes beyond trend and simply delivers genuinely essential music—and much of that stems from Mayfield’s roots.

"I grew up in a family band, with my baby sister (Jessica Lea Mayfield),” says David. “We lived in a bus once owned by bluegrass legend Bill Monroe. We didn't have a lot but we did have two fantastic parents who taught us the value of doing what you love and to not be afraid to jump head first into an adventure. We supported the entire family for years with nothing but music."

Mayfield says while making the album, he drew inspiration from his musical heroes Buddy Holly, Harry Nilsson, and Randy Newman and the albums he grew up listening to, Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and Melanie's "Gather Me.”

"I used to buy albums at the thrift store for a quarter, I had no idea who I was buying some stuff I would hate and some stuff just blew me away,” he says. “I remember running to my parents like I had just discovered something – ‘Hey Dad, have you ever heard of Simon & Garfunkel? They are awesome.’ He would just laugh and say, ‘Yeah, I think they were pretty popular.’"

So far, in addition to Paste Magazine debuting the video for “I Just Might Pray,” one of the album’s tracks, “BlueSkiesAgain,” will be the single on Jessica Lea Mayfield's Nonesuch release produced by Auerbach. But Mayfield’s music is not exactly new to some. His song, “Bible Days” was featured on an episode of CSI:NY; and “Ballad Of Restored Confidence” was the featured cover mounted track on Uncut Magazine.

“Mayfield’s songs...Push the sonic boundaries”---Washington Post

"David Mayfield quietly has been making waves as a support player, but his album should turn ears and heads on its own." -- Charlotte Observer

“David Mayfield has a voice as warm and friendly as a James Taylor smile." ---Atlanta Music Guide

The David Mayfield Parade is currently on tour in support of the debut, and for more information, please visit www.davidmayfieldparade.com

Hello Bella Release 'Echoes of the Atmosphere'

If you look past the big-city flair of major metropolitan areas you’ll find small towns that possess amongst other things, a lot of heart. Hello Bella, a dynamic five-piece can attest to this. They’ve already made a name for themselves by taking their catchy, earnestly crafted pop tunes throughout their hometowns in Southwestern Ontario. And now, with the release of Echoes of the Atmosphere on January 25th, the band is poised to take big cities everywhere by the horns the only way they know how, with an ear for great song-writing and of course, heart.

“The songwriting is catchy, accompanied by radio ready production values” - The Windsor Star

The story of Hello Bella is one of adversity and triumph. Officially formed in 2007, the band released their first EP, That Girl in the summer of 2008. Following the release, they launched their “Small Town Tour,” focusing on playing small Ontario towns in the dead of winter. Between garnering airplay on local radio stations and landing a chance to perform in front of a celebrity panel of MuchMusic’s “Disband,” Hello Bella moved in together to begin writing their debut full-length. They were soon granted their big break: a chance to open for international pop icons Black Eyed Peas at Sarnia Bayfest. The day after receiving the news, a house fire broke out and quickly spread to their jam space. The gig now in jeopardy, their local communities rallied around them and raised enough money to replace damaged equipment. This kind of rousing sentiment doesn’t show itself everyday, but it can be heard in spades on Echoes of the Atmosphere.

>From the epic build of ‘Stand,’ the album’s stirring opener and first single to the catchy stomp of ‘Cosmo,’ Echoes of the Atmosphere is full of polished, radio-ready pop-rock that leans on uplifting synth and keys, diverse hooks and the palpable emotion heard within lead singer Stephanie Poort’s vocals. There is no shortage of grand aspirations on Echoes. Hello Bella balance playful hooks with a stretching sonic landscape on ‘Argentina,’ give weight to the soaring romantic swoon of ‘Earthquake,’ and let their true rock and roll aspirations shine through on the crunchy groove within ‘Any Road But Here.’

“Hello Bella is regarded as one of the most recognizable musical acts in southwestern Ontario. Their musical style has allowed them to cross over into multiple genres...I can say with full confidence that Hello Bella can become a national icon in Canadian music.” -Tony Frangis, 99.9 The Fox FM Sarnia

In short, Echoes is poised to set dance halls and speakers on fire very, very soon. The album is full of spur of the moment production including recording a marching band walking by the studio’s open window during an art festival and an opening synth line on one track realized by bumping a member’s love handles against the keyboard. Yet there are no processed pop songs here; these are five musicians who are aware of their upbringing and are ready for listeners far and wide to hear both their story and their unmitigated groove.

Hello Bella is Stephanie Poort (lead vocals, keys) of Wyoming, ON, Nic Malara, (keys, guitar, etc.) of Coral Springs, FL, Mitch Fiddick (bass guitar) of Petrolia, ON, Rob Pearse (drums), of Petrolia/Port Stanley, ON, and Matt Naylor (lead guitar) of Sarnia, ON.

RELISH SIGNS WORLDWIDE DEAL WITH ROCK RIDGE MUSIC

Northern Ireland-based trio Relish (Ken Papenfus - lead vocals, guitars; Carl Papenfus - drum, vocals; Darren Campbell - bass, vocals) has signed a worldwide deal with Rock Ridge Music, who will release the band’s forthcoming album, “Connected,” in June 2011. Worldwide distribution will be handled via ADA and ADA Global. Initial plans call for release in the UK, Ireland and the U.S., with the first single, “Something To Believe In,” scheduled for digital release on March 11, 2011.

Says Rock Ridge Music CEO Tom Derr of the signing: “Relish encompasses exactly what this business is about to Rock Ridge Music - great songs and great people.”

Band vocalist/guitarist Ken Papenfus is pleased about the deal, saying, "The reason we signed a label deal with Rock Ridge was a very simple one for us. Tom Derr. Inspired.” His brother, band drummer/vocalist Carl Papenfus agrees, stating, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the best album we have ever done.”

Relish, who hail from County Down, North Ireland, have sold platinum albums, won prestigious music awards, written global hits, graced some of the world's most famous stages and have fans among the likes of Paul Weller, Brian May, and U2, and are virtually unknown beyond Ireland. The trio formed in the mid-90s and signed with EMI Ireland in 1998, where they released two albums. They began recording their debut album, “Wildflowers,” with John Leckie (Radiohead), and the album was subsequently finished by Al Clay (mixer for the Stereophonics and The Pixies). A string of Irish radio hits from “Wildflowers” followed, resulting in a platinum album, awards, glowing reviews, and numerous high-profile endorsements from the likes of U2's Larry Mullen Jr. and Queen's Brian May, who paid them the courtesy of a handwritten letter expressing his appreciation. U2 personally invited the band to play at their first Slane Castle show in front of 80,000 people. Relish also supported the Stereophonics, Coldplay, Kelis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Ocean Colour Scene.

Their follow-up album, “Karma Calling,” produced by Clay and the Papenfus brothers, peaked at #8 on the Irish album charts, went gold the first week of release, and boasted one top 10 and one top 20 single. Their songs featured on UK advertisements, in Hollywood movies such as “The Long Weekend” and “Intermission” (featuring Colin Farrell), and on UK television such as “Eastenders,” “Coronation Street” and “This Morning.” Global smash boy band Westlife took a cover of the Relish song “Rainbow Zephyr,” rechristened “Hey Whatever,” to #4 on the UK singles chart.

After parting ways with EMI, Relish as a collective took a hiatus. Ken and Carl lent their talents to the British jazz/funk group The Players, consisting of members of Paul Weller’s band and Ocean Colour Scene. Ken toured as guitar player for Paul Weller and was featured on his “Studio 150” DVD, and Darren had a cameo as bass player for Weller on the “Jonathan Ross Show.” Carl lent a rhythmical hand to the likes of Paul Brady, Hal, Lesley Roy, Juno Falls and other major label artists.

Their new album "Connected" sounds more like a debut album. The band has a renewed excitement and love for music again and the future looks bright as for the first time ever the true cultural impact that this band was able to deliver at home can be an experience shared worldwide. More information about “Connected” will be released soon.

Past Relish press kudos:
- “Relish prove themselves worthy of their accolades by releasing a debut brimming with promise. This is an uplifting album epitomized by simple, accomplished song-writing and soulful vocals. Given the right support, this Irish three-piece have the potential to clean up the huge album-buyer market.” – Music Week
- “The band’s sound is a pleasing mixture of commercial soul, pop, and funk influences based around Ken Papenfus’ strong vocal pyrotechnics, which at times recall Jeff Buckley and Stevie Wonder.” – Billboard
- “...joyful surges of gospel-tinted soul rock. Musically, Relish are pitched somewhere between Curtis Mayfield and the Rolling Stones.” - NME

THE JOLLY BOYS TO RELEASE GREAT EXPECTATION; FIRST ALBUM FROM THE LEGENDARY GROUP IN 20 YEARS

EOne Music and Geejam Recordings are excited to announce that Jamaica¹s legendary Jolly Boys will release their first album in 20 years on May 3, 2011. Entitled Great Expectation, it¹s a collaborative project between Geejam¹s Jon Baker and Wall of Sound¹s Mark Jones and the results are 12 joyous interpretations of contemporary songs given a modern Mento makeover.

While Jamaica is known for its reggae and ska, Mento is the original sound of the island and the forerunner to these two genres. With an amazing history spanning 60 years, The Jolly Boys¹ name is synonymous with the Mento sound and they are arguably the most recognizable Mento band in the world.

The Jolly Boys quickly rose to local prominence in the 1950s as the house band for the Rat Pack¹s Jamaica chapter, chaired by the swashbuckling enfant terrible Errol Flynn. Singing songs of double entendre and ribaldry to those in search of escape and excess, the group served as Port Antonio¹s go-to band for 30 years.

The band have continued in different incarnations throughout the years and have a truly charismatic leader in current front man Albert Minott, who in his younger years, used to entertain at Jolly Boys¹ shows with his hand walking, fire eating and limbo dancing. His saturated vocals, natural retro chic stylings and limitless charisma convey a rare originality and musical creativity that is entirely his own.

Great Expectation was produced by Baker, founder of Gee Street Records, the seminal UK hip hop label that first brought the likes of the Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, PM Dawn and the RZA to the attention of the British public and that also developed a domestic roster with acts such as the Stereo MC¹s, and DJ Richie Rich. Now based in Jamaica, Baker recorded the album at his Geejam studios in Port Antonio. It was mixed by Tom Elmhirst who has worked with the likes of Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Hot Chip and The Kills.

In the summer of 2009 Baker held a recording session at Geejam to capture some of the Jolly Boys¹ vintage material. That session led to a fresh creative idea to dip into the rock repertory, take the songs that resonate with Mento¹s raucous history and put them in a different setting. Baker, together with his long time friend and creative partner Mark Jones, chose tracks from artists like The Clash, The Stooges, The Stranglers, New Order and Amy Winehouse. Over several months the group worked incessantly with Baker¹s co-producer Dale Virgo on a set of innovative arrangements and modern beats to compliment and contemporize an older sound defined by banjos, maracas and rumba boxes.

The result is Great Expectation, and with it comes the birth of modern Mento.

The album has already been released in the UK and the reviews have been stellar. The Times said "The Jolly Boys are enjoying a glorious renaissance," the Telegraph called Great Expectation "Utterly engaging," the Observer hailed "The Jolly Boys are enjoying a remarkable 'Buena Vista Social Club' like revival," and MOJO, The Times and Mail on Sunday each awarded 4 stars for Great Expectation.

HAVOK: Denver Thrashers Return With Their Second Studio Offering

On their 2009 Candlelight debut, Burn, Denver-based HAVOK quickly proved to metallers of all walks that they were far more than your average fly-by-night thrash act. Even Fear Factory's Gene Hoglan took note of the young band saying, "HAVOK lays it down old-school heavy like a sharp stick in the eye."

Time Is Up, the band's follow-up to Burn, will be released via Candlelight Records on March 29, 2011. Featuring ten tracks mixed by the legendary James Murphy, the record immediately showcases the band's collective penchant for writing mammoth thrash anthems and the flawless musicianship that's come from the last year's worth of tireless live performances including national tours with Primal Fear, Hatchet, Hammerfall and Wretched, as well as regional dates with Destruction, Cephalic Carnage, Exodus, Anthrax and others. Blistering guitar and drum work once again highlight the record, particularly on standout tunes like “Prepare for Attack,” “Fatal Intervention,” “Covering Fire,” and “Scumbag In Disguise.” Bringing it all together is striking cover art by illustrator Halsey Swain.

Time Is Up Track Listing:
1. "Prepare for Attack"
2. "Fatal Intervention"
3. "No Amnesty"
4. "D.O.A."
5. "Covering Fire"
6. "Killing Tendencies"
7. "Scumbag in Disguise"
8. "The Cleric"
9. "Out of My Way"
10. "Time Is Up"

HAVOK formed in 2004. After two self-released albums, the band caught the attention of England’s Candlelight Records and by the Spring of 2009, the band unleashed Burn to the metal masses. The album peaked on CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at 15 and broke MediaGuide’s Top 10. Continued radio play came from KBPI/Denver, KUPD/Phoenix, WKLL/Waterville NY and WSOU/South Orange NJ. Music Choice and the syndicated metal program Full Metal Jackie also gave HAVOK repeated airtime.

HAVOK will kick off their first tour in support of Time Is Up next month as support for Florida death metallers Malevolent Creation. Stay tuned for tour dates and further info.

La Sera drops new single, extends Winter / Spring tour

VIDEO: "Never Come Around" (Dir. by Brady Hall) -

Since joining all-female punk trio Vivian Girls during the spring of 2007 Katy Goodman's DIY-style bass playing and drifty-faded vocals have sent waves of adoration rippling throughout Brooklyn's pop punk circuit. Her newest band La Sera showcases her signature style, bringing her talent for creating dreamy pop songs even more to the forefront. La Sera just finished a west coast tour and had a smashing time at CMJ.

After touring the world with Vivian Girls, releasing a handful of well-received records, and starting record label Wild World with her band mates, Goodman started exploring other outlets. She played in the short-lived dream-pop band All Saints Day in the spring of 2010, and a self-titled limited-edition 7" of spectral tunes was released on indie label Art Fag earlier this year.

In February 2010 Goodman started working on some fresh material that inspired the formation of her brand new band, La Sera. Her inspiration sprung from an attraction to early pop hits from the 1950's and ethereal choral vocals. Her new songs contain warm celestial-pop melodies that echo with the dreamlike effect of a church choir and effuse a softer, less aggressive sound than the Vivian Girls.

Recording with a tambourine, guitar, and layers upon layers of heavenly vocals, she started sending her songs to filmmaker/music producer Brady Hall (the director of Vivian Girls videos "Moped Girls" and "When I'm Gone"), who immediately wanted to collaborate and dove into re-recording her rough material himself. After hearing his finished work, Katy flew to Seattle and the two recorded all the vocals, mixed the songs and filmed two La Sera music videos at Brady's home studio.

The eponymous La Sera is the result of these sessions. With a dozen fresh tracks, La Sera muses on death, love, and love lost within the span of two minute choiral pop blisters. The phantasmic quality of Goodman's voice takes hold of the contradictorily upbeat "You're Going to Cry," while "Dove Into Love" seems to send time into drifting slow motion, enveloped by a wave of guitar strums. The lilting and delicate "Hold," meanwhile, tells the story of two people hugging each other to death.
