SKELETONWITCH: "Unfit" For Disney, But Fit For A Wedding; Hometown Record Release Show Announced

Fresh off a short run of dates supporting Ghost B.C., Athens, Ohio-based blackened metal quintet,SKELETONWITCH, has announced a hometown release party for their forthcoming new full-length,Serpents Unleashed. The show will take place at The Union (18 W. Union St., Athens) on October 23rd, the eve of the kickoff to their extensive North American fall tour with The Black Dahlia Murder. Tickets for the event are just $10.

The Black Dahlia tour will be swiftly followed by another lap around America in early 2014 alongside Amon Amarth and Enslaved. Unfortunately for fans in Orlando however, where the tour stops on January 27th, SKELETONWITCH will not be allowed to perform at the local House of Blues, as the group has joined the likes of Exodus, Machine Head and others deemed "unfit to be associated with" Disney, on whose property the venue is located.

Although SKELETONWITCH might be unwelcomed at the Magic Kingdom, a California couple has asked the band to make their dreams come true. During SKELETONWITCH's performance in Fresno on November 15th, longtime fans Travis Bartlett and Lanae Forrest will get married on stage -- making local venue Strummer's their own happiest place on Earth. Says groom-to-be Bartlett, "Lanae and I are taken aback and beyond elated that SKELETONWITCH are willing to be a part of the most important day of our lives. There really aren't words to show our appreciation for the band being with us as we begin our lives together."

Commemorating the group's 10-year anniversary, Serpents Unleashed -- recorded earlier this year with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Isis, High on Fire), and featuring artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Kylesa, Kvelertak) - will be unleashed in North America on October 29th, in Australia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland on October 25th and in the UK and the rest of Europe on October 28th. Serpents Unleashed is available for preorder at SKELETONWITCH.com in CD, LP, cassette, digital download and limited edition 7-inch collector's box formats. In addition, you can now pre-order the album digitally at iTunes and BandCamp and receive an instant download of "I Am Of Death (Hell Has Arrived)."
See for yourself whether SKELETONWITCH are "unfit to be associated with" at one of their dates below.

“Both immediately captivating and unique, largely due to the impressive vocals by singer/songwriter Drake Margolnick.”—Filter Magazine
Beats Per Minute is premiering the new music video for Flagship’s “Break the Sky” at http://bit.ly/1bFfRMZ. The song, which was recently hailed by American Songwriter as “a moody anthem reminiscent of the best of The National and old school U2,” is from the band’s self-titled debut, out today on Bright Antenna Records. To celebrate the release the band will be performing at New York’s CMJ Music Marathon on October 1718 and19MTV Buzzworthy described Flagship as “a powerhouse of gloomy guitars and anthemic melodies” andConsequence of Sound raved that the band “sifts through the pastoral folk rock graces of bands like Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear, with occasional detours into wide-eyed pop catharsis.” The new album was recorded with critically acclaimed producer Ben Allen, best known for his work with Animal Collective, Washed Out and Youth Lagoon. Please see below for complete tour dates.
In 2011 solo singer, songwriter and guitarist Drake Margolnick joined local musicians Matthew Padgett (guitar, backing vocals), Michael Finster (drums, programming) and Grant Harding (keys) forming Flagship. In 2012, Christopher Comfort joined on bass. The band has become a staple of their hometown club scene and was voted Best Local Band for Charlotte Magazine’s 2013 Bob Awards. They toured the U.S. with The Wombats performing in front of sold out crowds in New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, Chicago and Salt Lake City. This year Flagship played SXSW for the second time along with a performance at the inaugural Bottle Rock Festival in Napa Valley.
With Margolnick as the main songwriter, the band worked on the tracks in unison at an Atlanta studio. He notes, “normally we just start playing together, no talking, just playing. No planning. It just falls together and we organize it. Once we have the song, I’ll start mumbling and making noises and I’ll find my melody during that process and then go and write the lyrics.” The band experimented with the recording process on tracks like “Waste Them All,” which Harding explained was recorded in one live take. Of working with Allen, Finster points out, “Whenever we recorded with Ben I remember we’d do batches of songs, like three at a time. He’d set everyone up in different ways depending on the song and record those people together—drums, bass, guitar—whatever was going to happen.” Allen said of the sessions “It’s really satisfying as a producer to hear the song sound complete and epic right when it’s being recorded live, as opposed to having to edit, tweak and mix until it feels that way.”
Flagship’s self-titled full-length album comes on the heels of 2012’s Blackbush EP, which Baeble Music praised for “the deep-throated baritone delivery of lead singer Drake Margolnick a la Ian Curtis from Joy Division.”

TRICKY CANCELS SELECT US TOUR DATES

Tricky will have to cancel some of the dates on his US tour due to further visa problems. The tour will now start in San Francisco at the Treasure Island Festival and conclude with a re-arranged date in New York on October 26.

Tricky has some juvenile offences for joyriding and forgery of the crown and the US authorities require full disclosure before granting any visas. The new hold-up has been in getting this information from the UK police authorities.

Other people have always dealt with visas for me and it turns out that they have not advised me properly. Now I have been advised that this was going to be straightforward and easily done in time for this tour and now this has happened."

Visas are expected to be granted in time for the shows in San Fransisco, New York, Asheville and LA and Tricky will looking to tour fully in 2014. All upcoming Tricky US shows are listed below.

CBGB MUSIC & FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SEYMOUR STEIN AS RECIPIENT OF THE CBGB ICON AWARD

With the days counting down till the October 9th kickoff in NYC, CBGB Music & Film Festival  has announced that renowned industry groundbreaker Seymour Stein will be bestowed with the inaugural CBGB Icon Award, honoring those industry trailblazers for supporting artists and music in meaningful ways.

Co-founder and chairman of Sire Records, one of the music industry’s most influential record labels and home to some of the most iconic names in modern music, Stein also serves as Senior Label A&R Executive - Independent Music, Warner Music Group.

“For the first ever CBGB Icon Award, there was really only one possible choice and that is Seymour Stein,” said CBGB Co-Owner Tim Hayes.   “Seymour's career in the record industry stands alone as something truly amazing. One must applaud the fact that he took so many of the early CBGB bands like Ramones, The Dead Boys and Talking Heads out from the Bowery to successes beyond measure.  We are humbled that he has agreed to accept this award on Oct 8.”

Among the artists who Stein is credited in discovering and nurturing are Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, the Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, Erasure, The Cult, The Undertones, Madness, The Replacements, Ice T, and k.d. lang. As a testament of his impeccable abilities, he signed Madonna from his hospital bed while recovering from a heart infection. Soon after the ink dried, she recorded “Everybody” and went on to become the best-selling female artist of all time. Said Madonna of Seymour on record, "If I didn't meet Seymour Stein, I might still be a broke dancer living in Hell's Kitchen."  Adds David Byrne, “Although one might want to bring a long handled spoon when dining with Seymour, he is one of the few record business guys still around who actually knows a song when he hears one. And he can sing them too.”

"We are thrilled to hear that Seymour is being presented with the 1st Annual CBGB Icon Award,” said Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan. “Seymour came to see us in Basildon in 1980, signed us on the spot, and was responsible for bringing us to America.  We wouldn't be where we are today without his help and guidance in our formative years.  Thanks, Seymour, and congratulations."  Added Ice-T, “When Seymour signed me, most of the music business thought rap was a fad. He told me that just because he didn’t understand my music, it didn’t make it invalid. To him, I sounded like Bob Dylan’.”

The 2013 CBGB Music & Film Festival will take place on October 9-13 in New York City and will feature hundreds of bands in venues across Manhattan and Brooklyn. The festival will also host more than 125 speakers during the conference and 60+ music themed movies as part of the largest music based film festival in the country.

The conference portion of CBGB Music & Film Festival will be held from October 9-13 at Lower Manhattan’s Landmark Sunshine Theater with performances at venues throughout New York City and Brooklyn.

Electronic Music Pioneer Richie Hawtin aka Plastikman to Perform at 2013 Guggenheim International Gala Pre-party on November 6

A Special Musical Performance Made Possible by Dior to Launch Two Evenings of Celebration Benefiting the Guggenheim Foundation

(New York, NY – September 17, 2013) –The 2013 Guggenheim International Gala (GIG) is proud to announce two evenings of celebration starting Wednesday, November 6 with a pre-party featuring electronic music ambassador / DJ Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman). The event, which runs 9 pm to midnight, is hosted by the Guggenheim’s Young Collectors Council and made possible by Dior.

Hawtin’s seminal role in shaping Detroit’s electronic dance scene established his international status as a legend in the field. He is the master behind acclaimed techno imprints Plus8 and Minus, and is also known for his persona Plastikman; as Plastikman, he took the 1990s techno world by storm with a series of minimalist albums that attracted interest from leading festivals around the world. His performances bring together futuristic sounds and visionary visuals, and his work with technology has put him at the forefront of contemporary electronic music. The French government’s Department of Culture commissioned Hawtin to create a sound environment as part of the French Millennium 2000 celebrations. Titled La Beauté, the project also featured contributions from Jeff Koons, Jean-Luc Godard, La Monte Young, and Anish Kapoor. In 2011 Kapoor invited Hawtin to activate his sculpture Leviathan with a performance at Paris’s Grand Palais for the annual public art festival Monumenta.

Hawtin gives a special show in the Guggenheim’s rotunda at the pre-party, which also features an opening musical performance from Matthew Hawtin, a visual artist, electronic DJ, and brother of Richie. The following evening, Thursday, November 7, the benefit gala dinner honors artist James Turrell along with artist Christopher Wool, whose retrospective is on view at the museum from October 25, 2013, through January 22, 2014.

Funds raised from these events will benefit of the operation of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and will help the museum support its many innovative educational, curatorial, and research programs and the exhibition of its unparalleled collections of modern and contemporary works of art.

Wine and spirits for the Guggenheim International Gala are provided by Moët Hennessy USA.

Tickets to the Guggenheim International Gala pre-party on November 6 include a full open bar. Tickets are $125 for general admission and $500 for VIP admission, which includes an opportunity to view the exhibition Christopher Wool from 9–10 pm and a private bar area. A one-year membership to the museum’s Young Collectors Council may be combined with a general admission ticket to the pre- party for $625 or with a special two-for-one VIP ticket for $1,000. THUMP and Dim Mak Records Present: 'Nuthin But Fire' EP by BOT & TAI

A title for an EP such as, 'Nuthin But Fire' perhaps seems a little assuming of its imminent success. However this four track collaboration between TAI and Bot can only be described with such self indulgent terminology. And having the EP signed to Dim Mak Records and a video premiere on THUMP (click on the graphic below or the following THUMP link) equally validates the potential of this work. 'Nuthin But Fire' is available today. Do not sleep on these four tracks.... you just might get burnt.

The London born, German-based house DJ and producer TAI needs little introduction but we’re going to do it anyway. In his home land of Germany, TAI lives his life through his alter ego as an electro DJ and producer of some of the hottest electronic and house beats on the scene. Renowned amongst the dance circuit as the friendliest man on tour and an increasingly prolific producer, TAI has had a string of underground club hits...
After an exuberant career working for the biggest names in the industry as a successful and plentiful Hip Hop producer, earning him a string of awards and gold plaques, 3 years ago TAI decided it was time for a change and turned to electronic, creating a portfolio for himself as an artist in his own right. Kicking off with his first release, ‘Lyposuct’ on Dim Mak Records, took TAI to new levels instantly. Since 2009 he has then gone on to release ‘Paradise Poltergeist’ with Steve Aoki, ‘TAIFelix’ with Felix Da Housecat, ‘Booty Drop’" with his Hip-Hop rooted buddy Diplo, and ‘Spank’ with his good friends Bart B More and The Bloody Beetroots. Plus a string of releases on labels such as Dim Mak, Boysnoize Records, Southern Fried, Turbo and Mixmash. And now, to and to his expose, TAI has teamed up with the amazing Italian producer, Bot in the upcoming four track EP, ‘Nuthin But Fire’. If that’s not enough, TAI has also gone on to remix artists such as Billy Idol’s world hit ‘White Wedding’, One Republic's ‘Feel Again’, Mason's ‘Exceeder’, UKs number 1 rapper Wiley’s ‘Ayayay’, ‘Electric Boogaloo’,  and many more...
With an incredible amount of support from artists such as Steve Aoki, Tiesto, Afrojack, 2 Many DJs, Laidback Luke, The Bloody Beetroots,  and Felix Da Housecat, there is only more to come from TAI in the next 12 months... There is no end in sight for this talented electro gem.

BOOK OF LOVE TO REUNITE FOR WEST COAST MINI-TOUR IN OCTOBER

** First Cali Gigs For Influential and Beloved NYC Electronic Act In More than A Decade **

September 16, 2013 -- Seminal New York City electro-pop band Book of Love will reunite for several California shows in October. The group, comprised of three original members Susan Ottaviano (lead vocals), Ted Ottaviano (keyboards/vocals) and Lauren Johnson (keyboards/vocals) is set to perform at Los Globos in Silverlake on October 8th, DNA Lounge in San Francisco, CA on October 9th, That 80s Club in Pomona, CA on October 10th and two nights at the New Wave Bar in Bellflower, CA on October 11th & 12th. These shows mark their first West Coast performances since the group disbanded more than a decade ago.

Emerging from the New York City post punk underground in the mid-1980s, Book of Love were quickly signed to Sire Records by the legendary Seymour Stein on the strength of their ubiquitous club hit “Boy”, produced by their friend and in-studio mentor Ivan Ivan. The track, featuring Susan’s deadpan vocal buoyed by an infectious synth hook, told the tale of a girl who wanted to be ‘where the boys are’ but was not allowed and created the eclectic template for their unique sound. “Boy” was the first in a string of dark and catchy tunes – “I Touch Roses”, “Modigliani (Lost In Your Eyes)”and “You Make Me Feel So Good” – that were played non-stop on dance floors and on alternative radio throughout the country and would eventually comprise their first eponymous album, now acknowledged a synthpop classic of the era.

After a two-year opening slot for Depeche Mode as well as headlining their own tour, their second album Lullaby was released. The first two tracks kicked open the door with the chart topping remix of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells” (theme from The Exorcist) and the socially conscious "Pretty Boys & Pretty Girls" which became a crossover hit on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song became one of the earliest to address the AIDS crisis which was beginning to devastate the nation. The albums Candy Carol and Lovebubble would follow throughout the 90s as did further club hits such as “Alice Everyday” and “Boy Pop”, adding not just to the band’s catalog but their legend as well.

As time has passed since those early days of electronica, Book of Love’s influence and reputation, along with the popularity of electronic and dance music has only grown.  Returning in 2013 both to the studio and to the stage, Susan, Ted and Lauren refuse to rest on their laurels and continue to forge their own creative path in the era of EDM and beyond.
