Brooklyn by way of Japan-based band Peelander-Z revealed the latest single from its Space Vacation album today via venerable blog Brooklyn Vegan“Get Glasses” is also the subject of a contest with a grand prize that includes a personalized one-of-a-kind drawing from band leader Peelander-Yellow himself.  Yellow, an accomplished visual artist, will kick off the band’s upcoming July tour dates with a solo art show (including an acoustic set of music!) in Austin on July 13th.

2012 has been a great year for Peelander-Z so far. Comprised of color–coded band members Peelander–YellowPeelander–RedPeelander–Green(and at various times Peelander–Pink and Peelander–Black), Peelander–Z came off of a stint as the band all of the other bands had to see on last Summer’s Vans Warped Tour and they haven’t slowed down since. Recently the band appeared on the cover of Performer Magazine, played the inauguralGreat Googa Mooga festival in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (where NBC’s “1st Look” caught up with them) and now can be found in the pages of the Summer issue of Paper Magazine (see photo above).

Pheromone Recordings Welcomes Mo Kenney to the Roster

Mo

Pheromone Recordings is thrilled to welcome 22 year-old Nova Scotia native Mo Kenney to the roster. Kenney has been turning heads in the Maritimes for the past 18 months commanding stages with a cool and easy grace that belies her age.

It's those qualities that brought her to the attention of JUNO Award-winner and multiple Polaris Music Prize nominee,Joel Plaskett. Plaskett just finished producing Mo's self-titled debut album, currently scheduled for releaseSeptember 25th on Plaskett's New Scotland Records in conjunction with Pheromone Recordings.

Kenney is no stranger to the spotlight. After her successful CMW showcases in Toronto this spring, she has also performed at ECMA Week, the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, Evolve, Nova Scotia Music Week, The Rebecca Cohn Theatre, and The Carleton. Her song "Eden" won the Atlantic Film Festival's 10 x 10 music video program.

Kenney is quickly gaining admiration from where it counts most - fellow musicians. Ron Sexsmith, the Crash Test Dummies and Gordie Sampsonare among those spotted at her shows and singing her praises.

This fall, while gearing up for her album release, Kenney will join Joel Plaskett on the road, opening his Alberta and British Columbia dates.

Canada is known worldwide for the quality and quantity of its singer-songwriters, both male and female. A select few stand out in that LARGE crowd from the very beginning. We think Mo Kenney is one.

Click here (media please feel free to post) to listen to Scene of the Crimefeaturing an incredibly emotive Kenney vocal backed by Plaskett on some fuzzy guitar.

PRAISE FOR MO KENNEY

"We all loved Mo. She's the 'real deal.' Hope to do more work with her." - Ron Sexsmith

"Mo's voice is silky smooth, her lyrics are smart, she has wonderfully inventive, memorable melodies, and an understated yet commanding stage presence. Check her out, folks - she will not disappoint!" - Brad Roberts, Crash Test Dummies

"I'm on the road over 220 days a year and see a lot of openers and I was gobsmacked. She was stunning. The room was hushed and everyone was engaged and listening. I can't wait to watch her develop." - Steve Poltz

"Special mention goes to one of my favourite emerging performers in the Songcamp crowd, elfin songstress Mo Kenney, who is able to create a special mental picture and atmosphere with every song, and whose upcoming CD produced by Joel Plaskett is bound to be something special." - Stephen Cooke, The Chronicle Herald

NATE HALL: U.S. Tour Dates Announced

Founding USX vocalist/guitarist NATE HALL will embark upon a very special run of U.S. tour dates later this month alongside YOB mastermind Mike Scheidt. The tour will commence on July 14 in Asheville, North Carolina and run through July 23 in Washington, DC.

HALL will be touring in support of his solo debut A Great River, released via Neurot Recordings May 8. Recorded in a single March evening, A Great River offers up a lush landscape of sonic richness and is as pure and honest as music gets. The songs are regretful of the bad times, hopeful of times to come, and respectful of the great power that causes all thing to be. Commended Decibel Magazine in an 8/10 review: “[Hall] takes to folk and country as effortlessly as the heavy stuff and the mood he captures on these 10 tracks is extraordinary,” Outburn called the record “beautifully crafted,” while Mxdwn.com opined: A Great River’s ten tracks are dark and expansive… the best kind of eerie, mixing electric and acoustic guitar so songs swirl and swell.” Creative Loafing crowned A Great River, “a strange and hopeless document, and that may be where the beauty lies,” Digital Fix agreed: “With A Great RiverNATE HALL has offered up one of the most emotionally draining and honest records so far this year. A mixture of echo-drenched electric guitars and mournful acoustic weave a tapestry of forlorn, melancholic American folk music that reaches right down into the soul as Nate's rich, deep voice recites his lamentations,” while The Sleeping Shaman dubbed it “a paean to the downtrodden, delicately masked in light, well-crafted tones and passages of build and release catharsis, but it has an incredible sense of atmosphere and honesty.”

PRIMITIVE WEAPONS, MARES OF THRACE, PILGRIM To Co-Headline Eastern U.S. Tour

This August, three contemporary extreme music luminaries -- PRIMITIVE WEAPONSMARES OF THRACE and PILGRIM -- will hit the road on a three-way co-headlining tour of the Northeastern U.S.

The diverse, ten-date excursion will commence in Boston on the last day of July and run counter-clockwise through Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio before the finale in Chicago. As all three acts have recently released new LPs, and all demand your attention as they project their intense anthems from the state, PRIMITIVE WEAPONSMARES OF THRACE and PILGRIM will take turns headlining shows throughout the endeavor.

The Pilgrimage -- the sophomore LP from Calgary duo MARES OF THRACE -- was released worldwide via Sonic Unyon Metal in April. Critics and fans alike have been blown away by the band’s dynamic, metallic hybrid of sludge and scathing metalcore tendencies, the album receiving rave reviews and major coverage from media outlets worldwide. Following a victorious Spring tour through  Southern Canada and the Northern U.S., the band are energized to get back out there and sear some more ears this Summer.

PILGRIM's debut LP Misery Wizard was released through Metal Blade via Alan Nemtheanga’s (Primordial) imprint, Poison Tongue Records, in February. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, this Rhode Island-based doom trio blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram. The trio has been touring regionally throughout the Eastern U.S. all year, including performances at this year's SXSW festivities, along with two large Scandinavian metal fests in May.

Brooklyn ethereal hardcore/metal squad PRIMITIVE WEAPONS released their lauded debut album The Shadow Gallery in March, on CD via Prosthetic Records and on LP via Brutal Panda Records. The band's unique blend of unhinged, foreboding metallic hardcore and killer stage presence has elevated the unit from being an NYC live favorite to a nationally touring band, having toured down to SXSW and back this Spring and much more in support of the album.

WINDFAERER: New Track Stream Posted

Garden State blackened metal troupe WINDFAERER are currently streaming “A Glimpse of Light,” the second track off their new EP, Solar. The self-released follow-up to the band’s critically-acclaimed Tribus debut was recorded with Bobby Torres at Frightbox Recording in Clifton, New Jersey and offers up seven tracks of sadistic beauty laden with elements of black and melodic death metal while exuding a folkloric edge.

Check out A Glimpse of Light” at THIS LOCATION.

Literally meaning “one who travels with the wind,” as in a vessel at sea, WINDFAERER began as a means of self expression for guitarist/bassist/vocalist Michael Gonçalves, inspired by his Hispanic/Iberian heritage and fueled by his passion for extreme music. With WINDFAERER, he focused his energies on creating a melodic, blasting and emotional entity and eventually recruited like-minded musicians in violinist Benjamin Karas and drummer JP Andrade.

Gonçalves notes: "This music is a vessel for my expression. WINDFAERER is not to follow trends or be part of a scene of some sort; it is about independence and being true.Solar feels like a healthy progression for WINDFAERER's music,” he continues. “I've included more input from my bandmates in the writing process and we're excited to show the world our brand of metal with this EP. We are more energized than ever to keep creating."

“Featuring a sound reminiscent of the UK’s Forefather with a strong melodic black metal presence, the atmospheric intentions of Sear Bliss and folk metal’s best…” – Metaltome.com

Kat Edmonson-Nylon Video Premiere, New Dates Include Austin City Limits, WoodSongs, World Cafe

"Fresh as a spring bouquet”—The New York Times

“A timeless sound.”—NPR “All Things Considered”

“She’s being compared to the greats” —NPR “On Point”

“One of the greatest vocal albums I’ve ever heard.”—The Boston Globe

Kat Edmonson’s sophomore album Way Down Low is out now. Self-released on Kat's label Spinnerette Records, the album debuted #1 on Billboard’sHeatseekers Chart and has sold over 10k albums in its first two months. Following sold-out shows at New York's Joe's Pub and Boston's Scullers Jazz Club, Edmonson has added new dates including taped performances on Austin City Limits, NPR’s World Café and WoodSongs. See full list of dates below.

On Way Down Low, the native Texan makes not only her songwriting debut but also co-produces the album with Danton Boller. She performs with Lyle Lovett on the title track “Long Way Home” which Entertainment Weekly calls “an airy country duet.” The album was recorded at the historic Avatar Studio and Capitol Studios with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Al Schmitt (Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke) and includes input from producer Phil Ramone (Paul Simon, Billy Joel).

The Texas native grew up in Houston with a mother who introduced her to the Great American Songbook. Determined to be a singer, she auditioned for American Idol during its second season, but soon returned from Hollywood to Austin. Back in Texas, Kat became a regular at the Elephant Room, a premier Austin club, building a following and making musical connections that energized her career. Her self- released 2009 debut album Take To the Sky hit the top 20 on Billboard’s jazz charts, adding enough juice that she found herself playing gigs with Willie Nelson and Lyle Lovett. A musical kinship with Lyle led to a high-profile duet on the Christmas classic “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” which the pair performed together on tour as well as on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. On her tour with Lovett, Kat opened nightly, performing songs onwhich she’d begun writing and working. This set the stage for Way Down Low, her second record and first to include her original material.

Worn In Red Announces New Album "Banshees" Out August 7th on No Idea Records

Listen to new song "The Road" exclusively @ AOL's Noisecreep.com!

There’s a certain point in your 20's where you either give in and start working for that American dream of suburban retirement, or you double down on your own path and figure out what drives you. The four members of Worn In Red all hit that crossroads awhile ago, and clearly decided to work toward their own definitions of happiness. For them, writing interesting, evocative songs - and lighting a room on fire when those songs are played - is a crucial part of feeling alive. It makes the frustrations of this world more bearable. And when you do it with some of your best friends, it can be more fun than anything you ever imagined.

Worn In Red have addressed these themes in their music over the years. The pummeling catharsis of 2009’s In The Offing (No Idea) reflected the fading hope that punk rock might still have a role to play in the brighter tomorrows being promised at the time. But with 2012’s Banshees (No Idea), Worn In Red eschew reliance on such grand abstract notions, and instead celebrate reliance on each other. Banshees extolls the people in our lives who help us remain true to our own paths no matter how difficult it gets. It also excoriates the institutions that make this quest for authenticity so difficult in the first place. The sound of Banshees mirrors this mix of optimism and struggle, with potent melodies that are both unconventionally memorable and gloriously frenetic. Combined with a locked-on rhythm section and vocals that could inspire a cavalry charge, the cohesive set of bangers Worn In Red offers on this latest release shows a band in its prime, ready to inspire a legion of people to follow their hearts.
