ALICIA WITT SIGNS MUSIC MANAGEMENT DEAL WITH ROCK RIDGE MUSIC

Singer-songwriter-actor Alicia Witt has just inked a deal with Newark, NJ-based entertainment services company Rock Ridge Music to manage her music career. Says Witt of her new representation: “I am thrilled to be working with Tom [Derr, Rock Ridge Music CEO] and Jason [Spiewak, Rock Ridge Music President] and everyone at Rock Ridge Music. Their reputation in the music business as passionate, driven artist support, development and management makes this a dream partnership for me, and I am so excited to announce the start of this relationship. Making and performing music has been a huge part of my life for the last three years and a lifelong dream, but this marks the first time I’ve been represented in the music business and I couldn’t be any more delighted to be working with Rock Ridge.” Witt joins artists such as Sister Hazel, Tony Lucca, Ernie Halter, Ingram Hill, Matt Duke, The Revere, Benjy Davi s Project and others on the Rock Ridge Music management client roster.

Says Derr of the deal: “With some artists you just know, and Alicia is one of those.”

Fans of TV and film will likely know Witt from her work as an actor on shows including “Friday Night Lights,” “Law & Order,” “The Sopranos” and “Cybill,” and from the films “88 Minutes,” “Two Weeks Notice,” “Last Holiday” and “Mr. Holland’s Opus,” to name but a few. Witt appears in the forthcoming “Joint Body” (with Mark Pellegrino) which just premiered at the Newport Beach Film Fest and the film “The Boarding House” (with Nick Stahl). She is currently filming “Cowgirls n Angels” with James Cromwell in Oklahoma. Witt is also a classically trained pianist and an accomplished singer-songwriter: for the last three years, she has been performing her original songs at venues across the country such as Hotel Cafe and Universal Citywalk in Los Angeles, and Joe's Cafe and The Living Room in New York. She has played piano since the age of seven and competed both nationally and internationally on piano for a number of years prior to starting her acting career.

Witt’s recently released self-titled EP is available on iTunes ( http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/alicia-witt/id319275064), and her first music video (for the single “Anyway,” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmGnODFWPT8) has received play on MTVu and VH1.com. Witt also appeared as a musical guest on the “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in 2010 ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TduFqUob4o). She is currently working on her next album and just released another single, “Me Or New York,” which is available on iTunes. Planned tour dates include:

Release Live Video From ECO OSU
My ____ Is Pink Is Out May 10th On Memphis Industries

UK RAVE REVIEWS

The Fly: “...like The Beta Band backing The Flaming Lips”

NME: "It perfectly encapsulates this Oklahoma/Yorkshire foursome's weird aesthetic; their head-f*ckable tunes warp and distort everything into a kaleidoscopic pulp."

NME: "'The Little Death (In Five Parts)' is DFA 1979 at their most primal. It's basically sick as f*ck."

Grazia, UK: "If You've already succommbed to the epic, spaced-out funkiness of their fellow Oklahomans The Flaming Lips, dive in!"

Uncut: "... a difficult band to define, so comfortable are they moving in and out of different genres while retaining a largely indie-psych edge."

The Fly: "For all its outrageous volume, it's packed full of fantastic melodies that warrant every single decibel"

BBC: "When they lock their grooves down, let the drums fly and the guitars spark, there are few bands out there to touch Colourmusic’s engrossing racket."

SXSW PRAISE

Jim Derogatis: "The draw for me at Oklahoma night was the next group, Colourmusic, a hard-rocking psychedelic quartet from Stillwater that brings to mind the Will Rogers state’s most famous purveyors of such sounds, the fabulous Flaming Lips, back during the golden days when they were still the nasty guitar band of “In a Priest Driven Ambulance” and “Hit to Death in the Future Head.” Guitarist-vocalist Ryan Hendrix and his band mates put a significant twist on things to make the sound their own, however, via layers of polyrhythms in certain tunes, and much more of a dance groove overall, similar to what Yeasayer is doing in Brooklyn."

Watch Colourmusic Live At ECO OSU
Directed by 1984 Studios

Welcome to the beautifully strange world of Colourmusic, a place where concept albums - an LP named My _____ is Pink in this case - have nothing to do with structured narratives or loosely-linked lyrics. More like musical walls that must be climbed, whether that means shunning acoustic guitars or modeling the rhythm section of some songs after metronomic sex acts.

Which isn’t as titillating as it sounds. The way Hendrix sees it, “We wanted to focus on human sexuality and reproduction. Not in terms of turning people on; from a point of view of fear and anxiety, and how it’s the prominent decision-making force in many people’s lives.”

That explains a couple things, starting with My _____ is Pink’s actual sound. Rounded out by bassist Colin Fleishacker, drummer Nicholas Ley, and guitarist Nick Turner, Colourmusic’s new material amounts to an ever-evolving mass of melancholic melodies, gauzy vocals, shifty beats, and monophonic musical structures. Not to mention glimpses of agnostic gospel grooves (“You For Leaving Me”), hip-shaking R&B (“Feels Good To Wear”), acid-drenched pop (“Tog”), and Bladerunner-inspired psych (“Pororoca,” which means — quite tellingly —“great destructive noise” in many parts of South America).

And then there’s “The Little Death,” a five-part foray into the outer realm of sandblasted rock, subterranean drone tones, and the kind of headphone-ready hooks that cause weak-willed speakers to spontaneously combust. Like a yellow brick road to the second circle of hell (lust, if you haven’t visited Dante’s Inferno in a while), it’s a ten-minute guide to what makes Colourmusic tick. Well, sort of. Truth be told, the Oklahoma-based band isn’t spelling anything out.

“If you write a song that’s too literal, it dates it,” explains Hendrix. “We’d rather make things a little more subconscious. It gives a song a longer life span because you never know what’s really going on.”

“The music tells us what the song is going to be about,” says Hendrix. “Once we have a drum beat, it’s alive. And once we come back to it, it’s basically beckoning us to finish it.”

Attack! Attack! - New Album & Upcoming US Tour!

ATTACK! ATTACK! U.K. TO RELEASE ‘THE LATEST FASHION’ IN JUNE

Band Plans To Tour U.S. For First Time In Support Of Album

Welsh rock quartet Attack! Attack! U.K. will be releasing their new album, “The Latest Fashion,” in the U.S. via Rock Ridge Music on June 21, 2011. “It’s not about how tight your jeans are, how slick your hair is or how many tattoos you have,” says lead singer/guitarist Neil Starr. “It’s about the music, plain and simple.” The band, who has only performed in the U.S. once before (at SXSW in 2009), plans to unleash its live music experience on American audiences in support of the new album as well. Tour dates will be announced soon.

With eleven songs that go in your ears and bounce around your cranium all day (and then provide the soundtrack to your dreams that night), “The Latest Fashion” seamlessly blends soaring melodies, surging riffs and shout-’em-out-loud choruses: tunes that will rock out on the radio perfectly next to the Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World and Rise Against. The chiming, anthemic “Blood on my Hands” was inspired by Starr’s recent fatherhood. “It’s about responsibility and living up to your obligations,” says the singer. “Consider it a reminder that people count on you.” Another standout track is the relentless rocker and first single, “Nemesis.” “Everyone has one,” explains Starr. “I am my own worst enemy. If anyone’s going to bring me down, it’s me.” “The Latest Fashion” was recorded in Cardiff, Wales, in the summer of 2010 with acclaimed produ cer Romesh Dodangoda (Motörhead, Funeral For A Friend, Bullet For My Valentine) at the helm. The sessions were relatively relaxed compared to the intense 10-day marathon that gave rise to the band’s 2008 self-titled debut, which was produced by their old friend and Lostprophets bassist Stuart Richardson.

“Attack! Attack! U.K.” earned raves on both sides of the pond. The band was nominated as best newcomer in the Welsh Music Awards. Alternative Press called their album “a terrific melodic rock knockout.” NME trumpeted: “The entire history of British post-hardcore has been building towards Attack! Attack! [UK].” Kerrang! declared that their music “pack[s] enough pop-rock punch to leave you reeling for days.” The venerable metal mag also nominated the four-piece in the Best British Newcomer category at the 2009 Kerrang! Awards. Q Magazine named them one of the 10 best new acts in the world following their SXSW performance in 2009. PopMatters.com deemed them “a very good attack indeed,” while Wonkavision called their record “a short, sharp, up-tempo album awash in catchy melodies and hook-lined choruses that will have you singing alon g in seconds.” In the UK, DJs Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley championed the band, while in the States, they got lots of airplay love from the Faction channel on SiriusXM, and the band’s songs received coveted placement on 90210 and in Guitar Hero 5.

Attack! Attack! U.K. hit the road in support of their debut with headlining tours and in high-profile support slots for Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets and Aiden, as well as performances at both the Reading and Leeds Music Festivals. Every night, the four-piece worked its hardest to prove that it deserved the break it had been given. “Our shows are full of energy and passion,” says Starr. “We want people to sweat and have fun, because that’s what we do on stage.”

Attack! Attack! U.K. is: Neil Starr (lead vocals, guitar), Will Davies (bass), Ryan Day (guitar, vocals), and Mike Griffiths (drums).

Haunting Australian quartet Ghoul premieres "The Slip" on IFC

Haunting Australian quartet Ghoul premieres "The Slip" on IFC
New full-length due late 2011, "Dunks" EP out now on Speak N Spell Music

WATCH: The Slip

Sydney-based avant rock quartet Ghoul debut their new video for their dubby crooner "The Slip" on IFC.com this week. IFC says "This video for the song "The Slip" follows a young guy's badly blown out, glass pipe-fueled night, in reverse. Sydney based art rock band, Ghoul, craft topsy turvy pop songs that have a very unique allure, thanks to their dubstep production and the strange incantations of vocalist Ivan Vizintin. Sometimes whispering, sometimes hollering, always just airily out of reach, his vocal theatrics conjure the Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, with a spectral bit of Morrissey."

"remnants of Ghoul’s influences are still lurking in the wings – the obvious Björk, Radiohead et al, as well as the more general dubstep, mutant r’n'b and rocktronic & folktronic pulses – but each release sees Ghoul refining these influences and synthesising them into their own unique vision." -Cyclic Defrost

"daring and groundbreaking, yet remarkably welcoming." -The AU Review

GHOUL "DUNKS" - OUT NOW

“We were listening to a lot of dubstep tunes and fiddling around in Ableton, trying to emulate drum patterns that we had been hearing,” explains vocalist and frontman, Ivan Vizintin. “The song took a huge left turn when we introduced the synth; everything just fell into place after that.”

Bursting onto the scene in 2009, Ghoul made an immediate impact with their mini-album, ‘A Mouthful Of Gold’, which they distributed free at their shows and on Bandcamp. The free release earned the band widespread adulation, with Mess+Noise praising Vizintin’s “Antony-esque croon”, Polaroids Of Androids describing it as “the musical equivalent of Frank Sinatra discovering beautifully sloppy high school punk rock”, and RoseQuartz comparing its sound to “the weirder moments of Radiohead's Kid A”.

Soon enough the band were sharing stages with the crème of Australia’s experimental underground, including PVT, Seekae and Pikelet. PVT’s own Laurence Pike openly professes to being one of the band’s biggest fans: “Built upon the precocious talents and distinctive voice of singer/engineer/producer, Ivan Vizintin, their music can be abstract, atmospheric, intensely rhythmic and at times defies conventional structures, yet it’s fiercely melodic, inventive and accessible, maintaining a focus worthy of repeated listening.”

The release of ‘Dunks’ on Sydney imprint, Speak N Spell, in January will act as a precursor to the band’s debut full-length – due late 2011 .“We are working very hard in the studio, developing as many demos as we can,” says Ivan, “then picking and choosing what we will flesh out further.”

Athens' Witches push debut LP to June 21 via Bakery Outlet Records (Des Ark, Holopaw); Share new track! Touring in Europe Now

Athens, GA's Witches push street date to June 21 via Bakery Outlet Records (Des Ark, Holopaw)!

On tour in Europe now

New MP3 - Witches - "Black Dog"
MP3 - Witches - "Creature of Nature"

Athens, GA's Witches will release their debut LP on June 21, 2011 on Bakery Outlet Records (Des Ark, Holopaw, Landlord, and more.)

Punk by allegiance and attitude, pop by virtue of their wistful melodicism, Witches are a band borne of singularly American originality. Cara Beth Satalino is a New York-born chanteuse with a rougher than typical edge. Michael Clancy, a fellow Yankee, is a self-taught drummer of natural ability and feel. Jared Gandy, veteran of Athens groups with both DIY punk and Elephant Six Collective pedigree alike, rounds out the band's lineup on bass guitar. The band takes touches of the Breeders' feminine boldness, Des Ark's brusque emotional stance, and the wide-open, true rock n' roll worldliness of Midwestern punk idols the Replacements.

Which brings us to the centerpiece of Witches' appeal: Cara Beth Satalino is what puts the band over the top and sutures their songs into one's memory. She sings with simultaneous pointed honesty and dignified modesty. You can hear barbs and arrows in the songs that make up “Forever”, Witches' forthcoming full-length album, released on Bakery Outlet Records. Some are directed outwardly; others seem to take aim for the singer herself. All, however, hit their mark with a precision that warrants respect.

Witches have released tapes and seven inches on Vinyl Rites (Gainesville) and Salinas Records (Detroit), and have toured with Nana Grizol, Landlord, and Dead Dog. If they weren't in Witches, they would still be best friends.

Alexander and Fam Announce East Coast Dates

Alexander Ebert, lead singer of Los Angeles group Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, has announced a handful of East Coast tour dates under the name Alexander and Fam. These are the first tour dates that Alexander has announced in the United States since his successful shows at SXSW earlier this year. The dates include a stop at New York City's Bowery Ballroom. The complete list of tour dates is below.

The shows are in support of Alexander's solo self-titled debut, which was released on March 1st through Community Music. Alexander received praise from the press, with Uncut noting that Alexander "carefully crafted the album to keep a good balance between a full sound layered with an array of instruments and vocals to simpler textures that showcase just one element of the music" and All Music Guide calling Alexander a "sunny, homemade-sounding record." Though every single sound on the 10-song Alexander album was written, performed, and recorded by Alexander himself, he will be touring with a full band that will help to flesh out these tunes in a live setting.

Sole Preps "Hello Cruel World" releases single and more!

"This has been an absolutely HUGE month for me. Maybe the biggest month in my life next to when I got married. Since going DIY I have found myself continually experimenting with new techniques of getting my art out there, and I feel things are really starting to come together. Major shouts out to Ceschi Ramos, Fake Four, and Terrorbird.

1.) On Hello Cruel World, Sole aka Tim Holland returns with the Skyrider Band for his first full length since the split with Anticon, and his third album with the Skyrider Band production. While much was made of Sole leaving the empire he helped create in Anticon, it's safe to say that there's a new found confidence and focus not seen since Selling Live Water and Bottle of Humans. Hello Cruel World sees Sole's promotion within the ranks of underground hip hop from infantryman to general and he's assembled an army of the most exciting voices in indie culture to be a part of the new record; recruiting everyone from Xiu Xiu, Lil B, Pictureplane, Sage Francis, Ceschi and more to create a stunning tapestry that is a new high water mark in Sole's creative output. Read the entire release here

See what XLR8R , CMJ and Prefixmag had to say. Some other great press in SYFFAL, Examiner, and Westword.

2.) Listen to the first single "Hello Cruel World" here and purchase the entire EP here for the low price of $2.99 or get the T-shirt digital single combo for 16.99.

We also just released a remix of "Hello Cruel World" via RCRDLBL by
Alias with Yoni Wolf of Why? check it out here.

3.) MBF 5
Due to the tremendous response to the digital version I have decided to release MBF5 in CD form. The new version has 5 new tracks on it. I also produced a mansbestfriend video about my life as a gamer and nerd history called "The Deadliest Game" which was recently featured on the highly influential kotaku blog as well as the Mishkanyc blog. People are saying this is my best mansbestfriend record and I agree. Preorder it here for $9.99 or, if you already purchased the digital version send a proof of purchase to store@blackcanyonmusic.com to purchase at cost.

4.) Small Shirt Fire Sale

I dont know what is wrong with me, but I seem to always have a tremendous overstock of small shirts. Well, my silkscreener recently went out of business so all these shirts are going out of print. I'm trying to clean out my closet so im selling off the rest of these small shirts at $7.99 a piece until they have disappeared completely. Supplies are very limited, check em out here.

5.) New monthly event in Denver.

I know its premature to announce, but I might as well. Egadz, John from skyrider and pictureplane and I are launching a monthly in Denver. It's name is yet announced, but the first one will feature performances from K THE I(instrumental set), pictureplane, a solo set by myself and more TBA. The first one is june 16th at the Hi- Dive and a low price of $8 at the door. The second one will be the official release party for the sole and skyrider band Hello Cruel World album. The goal is to bring decent out of town electronic, experimental and even hip hop in once a month. Please check soleone.org for more info.

6.) After a couple years of laying relatively low we are hitting Planet Earth with a vengeance again. We'll be doing an extensive North American Tour from August-September and hitting europe in October/November. We've recently teamed up with Madison House for US bookings, so anyone interested in setting something up hit up booking@soleone.org . For our european leg we are trying to do more in Scandanavia and Russia this time, so anyone interested in Europe hit up cyril@zoobook-agency.com

7.) I have released a ton of music over the past month or so. We have been having an absolute blast making these videos and there are so many more to come. Here is what I dropped this month:

"The Deadlist Game" off Mansbestfriend 5B

"The Long War" arguably the most violent rap video ever made.

"Bradley Manning Swag Leif Kolt Remix"

"Resurrection Morning"

"The Great Deluge" by Sole, Jared Paul, Leif Kolt, & Kaigen off the Fake Four Japanese benefit EP

"Cell Memory" Off Mansbestfriend 5

8.) The USPS recently raised its shipping prices and when they changed their API it totally fucked up my store. It has been resolved, but if any further shipping issues arise please email me with the exact error to store@blackcanyonmusic.com "

MORBID ANGEL RETURNS WITH FIRST ALBUM IN FIFTEEN YEARS FEATURING ORIGINAL TEAM OF TREY AZAGTHOTH AND DAVID VINCENT

ILLUD DIVINUM INSANUS TO BE RELEASED BY SEASON OF MIST JUNE 7, 2011.

BAND ANNOUNCES OVERSEAS DATES WITH U.S. TOUR IN CONVERSATION

Florida --- After a fifteen year hiatus from recording together, original Morbid Angel members Trey Azagthoth and David Vincent return with Illud Divinum Insanus on June 7. Drummer Pete Sandoval is recuperating from a back injury, with Tim Yeung now behind the kit. Over the past five years, Morbid Angel has been conquering stages across the world, and a return to the studio was inevitable. Vincent shares, “We’ve been told that this is one of the most anticipated recordings and we pulled out all the stops and pushed things to a new level. This is exciting!” The line-up is rounded out by the highly accomplished Norwegian guitarist Destructhor, who has been with the band for over five years, and performs on Illud Divinum Insanus alongside Azagthoth.

The track listing for the forthcoming album is: “Omni Potens,” “Too Extreme!,” “Existo Vulgore,” “Blades for Baal,” “I Am Morbid,” “10 More Dead,” “Destructos VS the Earth / Attack,” “Nevermore,” “Beauty Meets Beast,” “Radikult,” “Profundis – Mea Culpa.”

The career of Morbid Angel is simply iconic in status. The line-up has changed multiple times through the years, but with 2011 comes a return of the original duo of David Vincent (Vocals, Bass) and Trey Azagthoth (Guitars). Since the band’s formation in 1984, and their true rise through Altars of Madness (1989), the band unleashed a new level of extreme music on the Earth’s consciousness. Blessed Are The Sick (1991), considered by many to be a true musical masterpiece, Covenant (1993) the first major label release from a death metal band, and Domination (1995), display living proof that creativity does not have to meet conformity in order to achieve commercial success. The live album Entangled In Chaos (1996) followed, as did the departure of vocalist / bassist Vincent. An Azagthoth-led Morbid Angel recorded three great albums in Vincent’s absence - Formulas Fatal to the Flesh (1997), Gateways to Annihilation (2000), and Heretic (2003) continued to feed the fan base and cement the band's notoriety in the pantheon of Metal." Over the past five years, an Azagthoth / Vincent led Morbid Angel has been performing in South America and Europe, reclaiming a place high atop the pedestal of extreme music.

Morbid Angel has plans to tour the globe in 2011. An excursion across The United States is in discussion, and the following appearances overseas have been confirmed:

May 25 Singapore (SG) Tba

May 27 Melbourne (AU) The Hifi

May 28 Sydney (AU) The Manning Bar

ARMY OF THE UNIVERSE, ITALIAN ELECTRO-INDUSTRIAL DUO, RELEASE DEBUT ON METROPOLIS MAY 24

MOTHER IGNORANCE PRODUCED BY CHRIS VRENNA (NINE INCH NAILS, MARILYN MANSON)

PHILADELPHIA - Army of the Universe, the Milan-based electro-industrial duo who received international acclaim for their Lovedead EP and open for Atari Teenage Riot in Europe later this month, will release their debut album, Mother Ignorance, on May 24 via Metropolis Records.

Army of the Universe's debut album is far from the first foray into music for Trebla, who is a renowned European DJ under the moniker Albert Vorne. A Swiss native, he started his career as a late teen and experienced quick success with singles "Indigo" and "A Leaden Day." The catapult to prominence put him side-by-side with superstars Armin van Buuren and Paul Oakenfold. Vorne relocated to Italy and remains one of the country's most popular progressive and trance DJs.

Mother Ignorance was recorded in the latter half of 2010 in Los Angeles with Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) handling production. A cover of Björk's "Army of Me" is amongst the fourteen-song collection.

TORI AMOS MAKES HER DEUTSHE GRAMMOPHON DEBUT WITH NIGHT OF HUNTERS

NEW ALBUM SET FOR SEPTEMBER 2011 RELEASE

21ST CENTURY SONG CYCLE INSPIRED BY CLASSICAL MUSIC THEMES SPANNING OVER 400 YEARs

May 5, 2011 – (New York, NY) – Tori Amos marks her debut album for Deutshe Grammophon, the world’s most celebrated classical music record label with Night of Hunters, set for release this September. The iconic, platinum-selling singer-songwriter continues her legacy of ground-breaking recordings with this 21st century song cycle inspired by select classical pieces spanning the last 400 years.

With Night of Hunters, Amos carries on the classical tradition of variations on a theme: taking inspiration from classical forms to create a bold new work while paying tribute to the mastery of the original compositions.

On Night of Hunters, which she wrote and produced, Amos comments, “I have used the structure of a classical song cycle to tell an ongoing, modern story. The protagonist is a woman who finds herself in the dying embers of a relationship. In the course of one night she goes through an initiation of sorts that leads her to reinvent herself allowing the listener to follow her on a journey to explore complex musical and emotional subject matter”

“One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us.” the singer explains.

The release of Night of Hunters will be supported by a tour in Europe and the U.S. starting in Helsinki, Finland on September 28th.

With more than 12 million albums sold and multiple Grammy nominations, Tori Amos is one of the most successful and influential artists of her generation. A pioneer across multiple platforms, she was the first major label artist to offer a single for download, has had her songs turned into graphic novels, and has produced pioneering videos throughout her career. She is renowned for her passionate and broad fan-base, her critically and commercially successful tours, and her ever evolving live show. Ms. Amos is also a noted humanitarian and co-founder of RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), which is the United States’ largest anti-sexual assault organization.
