REMTV OUT TODAY ON RHINO

Six-DVD Collection Chronicles The Band's Special Relationship With MTV Through Live Performances, Award Show Highlights, And A New Feature-Length Documentary R.E.M. By MTV

Clip Premiering Today via The Wall Street Journal Speakeasy Blog

LOS ANGELES - NOVEMBER 24, 2014 - R.E.M. and MTV came of age together. From the start, their fates were intertwined, with the band releasing its first single in July 1981, just weeks before the network premiered its first music video. From that point on, MTV documented everything about R.E.M, their music, their stories, and ultimately, their decision to disband in 2011.

This entire story, beginning to end, is chronicled in REMTV, a new six-DVD set that includes live performances, award show highlights, and television appearances, as well as a new documentary about their shared history entitled R.E.M BY MTV, directed by Alexander Young. REMTV is available today via Rhino at retail outlets for a suggested list price of $99.98.

Watch a clip from the Deleted Scenes of the documentary R.E.M. By MTV today, via The Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy Blog HERE.

"It occurred to us that there's all this footage of some of the band's absolute career highlights sitting in some MTV vaults in London and New York-- and thanks to a lot of effort and digging and arranging, this is our chance to share that music with various generations of R.E.M. fans in a pretty unique release," said longtime manager Bertis Downs. "And Alexander Young's documentary is a fine way to tell the story of R.E.M. through its various twists and turns, as captured in real time by MTV's cameras-- it has some great funny bits too!"

The first disc combines both of the group's performances on MTV Unplugged (1991 and 2001) and features the outtakes that debuted earlier this year on the audio release Unplugged: The Complete 1991 And 2001 Sessions, including songs like "Get Up," "The One I Love" and "World Leader Pretend."

"This is the first DVD project to unite material from all across Viacom's networks," said Bill Flanagan, EVP of the Viacom Music Group. "Not only are we drawing from the vaults of MTV - domestic and international - but from VH1, Comedy Central, and Nickelodeon.  I don't think anyone realized just how much terrific R.E.M. footage we were sitting on. To gather the best of it in one collection is pretty overwhelming. R.E.M. started great, stayed great and ended great - here's the evidence."

The band's 1998 appearance on VH1's Storytellers opens the second disc, and has been expanded with unaired performances of several songs, including "New Test Leper" and "(Don't Go Back to) Rockville." Also featured are performances taken from various MTV award shows through the years, as well as the band's 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Longtime fans will certainly delight in two vintage performances included here. First is a 1983 performance of "So. Central Rain" and "Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars)" from Livewire. The next clip features five songs the band played in 1984 on The Cutting Edge, including "Driver 8" and a cover of Brownsville Station's "Smokin' in the Boys Room."

The next three discs present a trove of rare live performances recorded between 1995 and 2008 in countries around the world. Of the 99 songs that are spread across these three discs, nearly half are unique song titles, offering a deep exploration of the band's live legacy. Especially noteworthy are two massive free concerts filmed for broadcast: Live In Cologne (5/12/01) and R.E.M. Live In Athens, Greece (10/5/08). More than a dozen songs from those shows did not air during the original broadcasts. Both concerts appear here in their entirety for the first time.

Undoubtedly, the heart of this superb collection is the new feature-length documentary, R.E.M. By MTV, included on the final disc. Drawing exclusively on archival events, the film traces R.E.M. and MTV in real time, which makes it feel as exciting and immediate as it did when it was happening. "All the energy and momentum of both the band and the network come roaring through," writes Anthony DeCurtis in the set's liner notes.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY To Kick Off Gwar Eternal North American Tour 2014!

North Carolina crossover icons, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, will kick off a near month-long run of live tirades with Gwar tomorrow to finalize the year. Set to embark at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, British Columbia, the band will crumble the stages of twenty-six venues, coming to a close on December 13th at Baltimore Soundstage in Baltimore, Maryland.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY continues to tour in support of their mammoth IX full-length released this past Summer via Candlelight Records. Dubbed "a triumph" by the Obelisk, the critically adored IX was captured by the band alongside longtime friend and colleague John Custer. Clocking in at nearly forty-five minutes, the record boasts all the groove-laden sludge/doom/punk concoction fans have come to expect from CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. The Onion's A.V. Club champions the band's "...smoke-wreathed grooves and sludgy rushes of belligerence," furthering that, "the album is a meat-and-potatoes feast," while Rock Revolt notes,"...this album contains the vital elements to satisfy the most fervid CORROSION OF CONFORMITY fan." Decibel Magazine agrees elaborating that, "COC stick to the recipe that served them well on both 2012's self-titled reboot and the follow-up EP, Megalodon: A little hardcore, a little crossover, a whole lotta Southern rock and (especially) doom metal, all stirred, shuffled, layered and frosted in ways that make guessing their next move impossible. But the band's strategies are more expansive this time out, their tricks more finely woven into the fabric of each song." Adds Blabbermouth, in an 8/10 rating, "COC are closer to their Animosity and (to some measures) Eye For An Eye roots than they've been in ages. Certainly IX is one of the loudest albums ever put down in this unit, so consider earplugs if you catch COC live."

KID ROCK TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM "FIRST KISS" FEBRUARY 24TH ON WARNER BROS. RECORDS

Detroit, MI - Kid Rock announces today that his new album "First Kiss" will be released on February 24th.  The album, his first on Warner Bros. Records, was produced by Kid Rock (with the exception of two songs which were co-produced by Dann Huff) and was recorded at his studio in Michigan.

Following the success of 2012's "Rebel Soul" and the accompanying "$20 Best Night Ever Tour," Kid Rock wasted no time getting back to work in the studio.  The massive touring on the last album cycle allowed Kid Rock to play in front of over 550,000 people in one summer, and left him energized to write and record new material without taking much of a break. Plans for an even more ambitious Summer 2015 tour with his Twisted Brown Trucker Band will be announced shortly.  "First Kiss" signals the continued evolution of one of music's most versatile performers, but we're not going to tell you what it sounds like - we just couldn't do it justice and we're confident the music will speak for itself.  If you do the math though, every record Kid Rock has released through WMG has gone platinum or multi-platinum (with the exception of Live Trucker and Rebel Soul which are both certified Gold), so it's safe to bet the legions of fans Kid Rock has cultivated over his 25 year career are going to enjoy this one too.

Expect the first single to be released at the top of the year with multi-format airplay, a music video, and the rest of the shitshow that goes with releasing an album.

CULTURE CLUB CANCEL NORTH AMERICAN AND U.K TOUR DATES

It is with great regret that the members of Culture Club have announced the cancellation of their tours in North America and the UK scheduled for November and December 2014.

It became necessary to do so this week when a polyp was discovered in George’s throat. The throat specialist has ordered George to not sing as it may necessitate an operation.

George and the band are devastated by this news and so it is with much regret that the tour is cancelled until further notice. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.

“We are hoping we can reschedule the concerts for next year, and hopefully George’s problem will be resolved,” said the members of Culture Club.

The band wish George a speedy recovery and added ….“To our fans we wish to thank you for your loyalty and know that we love you all.”

AFI'S DAVEY HAVOK AND JADE PUGET REVEAL "CONFORMIST" MUSIC VIDEO

XTRMST TO RELEASE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM MONDAY NOVEMBER 17 VIA DIM MAK RECORDS

AFI lead vocalist Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget have released the first music video for their straight edge hardcore band XTRMST. Making its debut on NOISEY, the video is for their first single "Conformist" - watch it here. The track is off the duo's self-titled debut album, which NOISEY boasts as "...dark, frantic, and moody, tinged with electronics and very slick." The LP is set for release next week on Monday November 17 via Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records. Pre-orders are now live for the album on iTunes, and you can grab the "Conformist" single HERE.

"Jade and I have been talking about starting a straight edge hardcore band for years," says Havok. "We started writing and recording in early 2012 and chose the name XTRMST because it expresses the messages represented on the record. The straight edge movement is not one of moderation. It's based in undeniable objective truths."

"The straight edge philosophy is something that Davey and I gravitated towards at a young age, drawn by concepts and ideals that seem almost foreign in modern society," says Puget. "Like much of the other subcultures we were a part of growing up, it put us at odds with 99% of the people around us, which was something we embraced. Being sXe for over 20 years and being musicians, it seemed natural that this crucial ideology would find a musical expression."

The 14-track XTRMST album was produced and mixed by Puget at his home studio and at The Treehouse in Los Angeles, and its November 17 release will come via Dim Mak Records, the indie label founded by DJ/producer (and former member of hardcore band This Machine KillsSteve Aoki. Although Aoki and Dim Mak are most often seen as leaders in the electronic dance music space, the release of the XTRMST album marks a return to Aoki and Dim Mak's hardcore roots. "I met Davey a while back and we bonded over our shared experiences in straight-edge culture. We found a lot of kinship there, and so it made sense for us to release an album that represents the spirit of what originally birthed Dim Mak," states Aoki.

"These songs are the purest expression of emotion, with no thought towards commerce or accessibility," says Puget. "And the album was made with the amount of money you have in your pocket right now - just 2 people expressing their love and hate into microphones in a tiny room."

"XTRMST" track listing:
1. Words For the Unwanted
2. Conformist
3. Social Deathplay
4. Merciless
5. Exterminate
6. Sharper
7. Extremist
8. The Breed
9. Humanity
