THE TOXIC AVENGER MAKES HIS AMERICAN DEBUT
French Electronic Music Visionary Releases "Never Stop" Single & Video
Full-length Album Angst set for September 13 release, U.S. tour to follow
Los Angeles, CA - 5/31/2011 - French DJ/Producer The Toxic Avenger is showing America why he has become one France's hottest electronic commodities.
Previously named a Rolling Stone magazine 'Artist To Watch', Simon Delacroix - a.k.a. The Toxic Avenger - celebrates the domestic release of his "Never Stop" single [purchase here on iTunes] with the unveiling of the song's video, which premiered in the United States on Vevo [click here to watch video].
Whether sharing a stage with artists ranging from MSTRKRFT and Bloody Beetroots to Late of the Pier and Crystal Castles, or remixing acts including Ladytron, Benny Benasi and Chromeo, Delacroix's Toxic Avenger persona has become a white hot addition to the worldwide electronic scene, uplifting House by its foundation with an aggravated flurry of big beats, distorted-pop and ambient dissidence, and creating an other-worldly dimension that mesmerizes listeners and energizes live audiences.
"Never Stop" - featuring Robert Bruce of UK act South Central on vocals - is the lead track from Delacroix's upcoming release Angst, scheduled to hit the streets Stateside on Sept. 14 via Little Owl Recordings/Roy Music. Two additional singles and remixes will precede the release of the album. The disc, hatched in Morocco, is a diverse, pop-format bloodbath: punk-electro, dark folk, blip-hop anthems, and of course, Delacroix's trademark thriller beats.
With tour dates scheduled worldwide through summer, The Toxic Avenger will bring his DJ set to America in fall - check his website for complete dates.

K-The-I??? releases lead single from his first instrumental album Synesthesia featuring sole, Myka 9 & Ceschi!
After the Cambridge, MA native rapper K-The-I??? immersed himself deep in the L.A. beat scene and spent innumerable months aloof abroad, he emerged an anomalous and innovative beat maker. Gleaning insight from the work of Thavius Beck, producer for his last Big Dada released album Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, K-The-I??? has taken the Launchpad/Ableton style of beatmaking in his own direction. NME said about his last album, "Living within an architecture of alien sounds, K-The-I??? still could not be any more welcoming." However, the architecture now his own, as well as the interior design, K-The-I??? is truly in his own element. Synesthesia is K-The-I???'s first instrumental album and a testament to his growth as an artist.
Abandoning his discordant Mush era rap roots for a surprisingly melodic new vision, not the cookie cutter dubstep that one might expect a Dadaist rapper to employ, K-the-I??? draws the same amount of inspiration from the 'womp' sound in current electronic movements as the airy MIDI themes of Super Nintendo RPGs en route to an undeniably original soundscape. At the same time hard and elegant, dark and nebulous. He has become a one man Godspeed You! Black Emperor for the post-Witchhouse age by layering glitchy rap influenced dance beats among harmonious vocal samples and lush synths. K-The-I??? calls in his allies Myka 9, sole and Ceschi to contibute to this post-IDM masterpiece.

Beware of Safety Announce New Album "Leaves/Scars" Out July 12th on The Mylene Sheath
Beware of Safety Announce New Album, "Leaves/Scars," Out July 12th on The Mylene Sheath
West Coast Tour Dates w/ You.May.Die.In.The.Desert Beginning This August!
Some bands like to play it safe. They find something that works for them, get comfortable with it, and then continue to fine tune that method with each subsequent project, often to critical acclaim and a delighted fan base. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this method and it often yields classic albums and songs. But then there's an entirely different breed of band. The type of band that couldn't care less about critical approval. The type of band that writes music to challenge themselves and get it out of their collective souls because they have to. And the high risk, high reward brand of music this type of band creates can often become the catalyst for other people picking up instruments and learning how to play them. There's a reckless abandon, an unwavering confidence, a "press-record-and-see-what-we-do" swagger that is inspirational and moving.
On Leaves/Scars, the third album by the instrumental rock band Beware of Safety, we can hear them becoming one of the latter bands: taking high risks and bearing astonishingly high rewards. After touring on dogs in 2009, the band decided to begin writing the next record and for the first time in the band's six year history, the album was to be written completely from scratch. In addition to going into the new album with no previously conceived material, the band would also be writing as a five piece for the first time. (Tad had joined the band on bass after dogs' release in January, 2009.) So in what could be considered an "album of firsts" for the band, they also (for the first time) had an opportunity to write an entire record from start to finish with each member's input on each song.
The diversity on display within the tracks on Leaves/Scars, exemplifies the influence that this new writing process ultimately had on the final compositions. The range of sonic scope on display is mesmerizing. From the aggressive stomping and shrieking of the opening track, "Meridian", to the building and climaxing crescendo of "Kevin Spacey", to the slowly churning and growing "Lowercase West"; to the smooth jazz turned math metal cruncher that is "Crooked Nails for Catching Skin"; and on into the beautiful, triumphant, shimmering number "Moorpark Ends"; to the introspective and bittersweet "Small Victories"; and finally the utterly epic 11-minute closer "Memorial Day" which somehow encapsulates the entire gamut of the album's emotional spectrum and gives it one final, massive shot in the arm. The immediate moments spent in the aftermath of Leaves/Scars, are deafeningly quiet; a true indicator of the intimate listening experience of which you've just been a part. Some of this can be attributed to how the music was brought to life, as the band also approached the recording, mixing, and mastering of the album from a new perspective this time around.
As Leaves/Scars, crashes out of the gate, the immediacy of the new approach and the recording itself are instantly noticeable. Light on punch-ins and rejecting any over-finessing, the album has a strong, gritty, "in-your-face" sound that helps to separate itself even further from anything else in the band's discography. Recorded by Jeff Lewis at The Compound Studio (Marc Ford, Dusty Rhodes & the River Band), mixed by Patrick Murphy, and mastered at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, CA by Evren Goknar (30 Seconds To Mars, Megadeth, Iggy Pop), it also marks the first time the band worked with three different people in three different locations to produce a record. Leaving their comfort zones in every aspect to make this album - from the initial writing methods, to the recording, mixing, and mastering process - Beware of Safety set out to challenge themselves and discover who they are as a band. This is an honest record, full of feeling, passion, and soul... From the heart.

UNKLE premieres video “Money And Run” (feat. Nick Cave) with Mashable
UNKLE premieres video “Money And Run”
(feat. Nick Cave) with Mashable
Watch the NSFW video on Mashable HERE and on Youtube HERE
“It has a sort of Clockwork Orange-esque feeling about it,” says UNKLE’s James Lavelle to Mashable. “It follows the idea of taking the money and running — how vulgar and gratuitous we are financially at this point in time. The story follows the excesses of rich individuals preying on the weak and poor.”
“It is not intended as a direct broadside to any particular politician, though borrows from the iconography and styling of the Bullingdon set who reign supreme,”says director Tom Haines. “I suppose it’s a crude allegory, but in that sense it allows us to have a lot of fun with the scenarios and settings. The kind of fun that makes you feel uneasy in hindsight.”
UNKLE released Only The Lonely earlier this year on April 5th on their label Surrender All. All the songs on the EP are new and are headed up by collaboration with Nick Cave, lending his vocal and lyrics on the track ‘Money And Run’ (listen and share the track here). In addition there are great collaborations with Liela Moss (The Duke Spirit), long time UNKLE vocalist Gavin Clark and Rachel Fannan(ex Sleepy Sun). The EP is rounded off with a classic UNKLE instrumental.

THE KOOKS SET TO RELEASE BRAND NEW ALBUM "JUNK OF THE HEART" ON SEPTEMBER 13th
THE KOOKS SET TO RELEASE BRAND NEW ALBUM “JUNK OF THE HEART” ON SEPTEMBER 13th - THREE EXCLUSIVE U.S. SHOWS IN JUNE - FAN PRESALE JUNE 1 AND PUBLIC ON SALE BEGINS JUNE 3
The Kooks will release their eagerly anticipated new album, Junk of the Heart, on September 13th on Astralwerks Records, preceded by the release of a debut single of the same name on July 11th. Additionally, the band is proud to announce a limited and exclusive round of U.S. tour dates in June (see full listing below).
Written by The Kooks, produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Air, Belle & Sebastian), and recorded in The Sound Factory (Los Angeles) and Sarm Studios (London), the band’s third album sees them consolidating their position as a bona fide album band with trademark breeziness and catchy hooks.
Kicking off with a dramatic breakbeat, the opening track builds across acoustic guitar and warm washes of synth before collapsing into a chorus you’ll be singing for days. It shows, that despite the change in their influences, the band still have a firm grasp on how to write killer hooks and pop songs without compare.
“It’s upbeat; an album to play in the sun” explains frontman Luke Pritchard of the forthcoming 12 song collection, “What we really wanted to do was build a proper, full album. Something you can listen to from front to back. We’re an album band and this is a journey you come on with us.”
Junk of the Heart follows the Kooks’ multi-platinum debut, Inside In/Inside Out (2006) which peaked at number two in the UK Album Charts and its platinum selling UK number one follow-up, Konk (2008). The Kooks have sold over 2 million records globally.
Having sold out several US tours including two sell-out nights at Terminal 5 in NYC, The Kooks are eager to play to American audiences once more. The upcoming exclusive live dates will be on sale exclusively for fans on June 1st (passwords will be emailed to Kooks and Astralwerks email subscribers). Native Instruments Announces Shareholder Reorganization
Berlin, May 31st, 2011 - Native Instruments has just completed a major share reorganization that makes the company entirely self-owned. The reorganization was facilitated by CEO and founding shareholder Daniel Haver, and comprises both a general shareholder consolidation and the reacquisition of about 30% of the company's shares from a long-standing venture capital investor. Implemented in the month of Native Instruments' 15th anniversary, the consolidation effects complete ownership of the company by its original founders and its executive management team, and makes it independent from external investors.
"While this reorganization may sound like an abstract behind-the-scenes process, the implications for our users and our industry are actually quite profound", says Daniel Haver. "As a completely self-owned enterprise, we will now be able to pursue our vision for the most forward-thinking music production and DJ technology in an even more energetic and uncompromising fashion."
With a revenue growth of 60% in 2009 and 70% in 2010, as well as market-leading sales figures for its current product range centered around MASCHINE, KOMPLETE and TRAKTOR, Native Instruments remains a uniquely vital and dynamic company within the musical instruments industry and the wider technology domain.
About Native Instruments:
Native Instruments is a leading manufacturer of software and hardware for computer-based music production and DJing. The company's mission is to develop innovative, fully integrated solutions for all professions, styles and genres. Brilliant Colors shares new single, announces new album for Slumberland Records
MP3: "How Much Younger"
Inspired by post-punk fervor and the spiky pop of C86 and early Flying Nun / Creation label output, San Francisco's Brilliant Colors stake out a unique spot in the indie music landscape. Their 2009 album, Introducing, is one of the finest debuts in recent memory, and they followed it with 7-inches on Slumberland and Make a Mess and a European tour with La La Vasquez that led to the release of another great single on Germs of Youth. Most recently, they teamed up with Belfast's brilliant Girls Names to release a split 7-inch in Fall 2010. All of these singles were recorded with Oakland garage phenom Ty Segall, who spiked the ladies' punk-pop swirl with his own special grit.
Now Brilliant Colors have teamed up again with The Pool's Alex Yusimov (who recorded their first album as well as Grass Widow and many of Portland's finest indie bands) to create Again And Again, an album that represents a great next step for the band. The song-writing is still as infectious as ever, but the tunes are now more carefully arranged pushing the band far beyond their punk roots to something as elemental as pop gets. Songs like opener "Hey Dan," the sprightly "Value Lines" and "Hitting Traffic" combine guitarist/singer Jess' catchy-as-hell riffs with Diane's steady, rolling beats and Michelle's dense baselines to fashion songs that are deceptively simple -- straightforwardly rocking but also richly layered, revealing new twists on each listen.
The mood is confessional and late-night dreamy; Jess' unadorned vocals and eloquent lyrics are personal, direct and atmospherically deployed, mixed in with the songs like another instrument. They can be heard to great effect on tougher songs like "Back To The Tricks" and "Painting Truths," tempering those tunes' punchy punk dynamics with their melodic sensibility. Add in classic-sounding stormers like "Cult Face" and "How Much Younger" and you have all the makings of another great Brilliant Colors album, one that shows how finely they've honed their own unique brand punk-informed crash-pop.

Gold Leaves signs to Hardly Art, premieres "The Ornament"
Gold Leaves shares new single, announces debut album for Hardly Art
MP3: "The Ornament"
"Nothing gold can stay." Even as he tried to capture it in verse, Robert Frost
appreciated the ephemeral nature of beauty. And so does Grant Olsen. Yet a nod
to the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet is only one of the reasons the Seattle-based
songwriter-best known as half of the duo Arthur & Yu-christened his new project
Gold Leaves. An autumnal character imbues these nine originals. Just as foliage
buds, changes color, and eventually falls from the branches every season, so too do themes of birth, death, and regeneration permeate The Ornament.
Like most creative types, Olsen's muse is always in transition. The album went
through myriad permutations between inception and completion. Although he
began work on it nearly four years ago, he scrapped the bulk of those early efforts after a bag containing his laptop and notebooks was stolen. The theft seemed a sign. Perhaps he was writing a second Arthur & Yu album? No. In the space of composing and refining The Ornament, Olsen had married, traveled through Central and South America, seen the birth of new family members, and watched a dear one pass. This transitional period was coupled with observations of his nation in flux, all of which informs the universe of this record. While he hoped to open these subjects up in a manner that would permit a broad range of listeners to relate to the sentiments, he recognized that their inciting intimacy precluded turning these songs into Arthur & Yu tunes.
Getting that damn muse to stand still long enough to even decide what The
Ornament was, and how it would take shape, was a Herculean task. At one point,
Olsen thought it might be a country album. Or maybe an homage to his love of
classic R&B. Learning to let go of the creative process, to get out of his own way, was a crucial step in the album's execution. "I kept scrapping music because I wanted to make some kind of grand statement," he admits-a theme he addresses on the song "Hanging Window." "When I opened myself up to just trying to make a record that still had meaning, but was less grandiose in the overall scheme of things, I started being a lot more productive."
Once that path was clear, Olsen ended up making an album that sounds as vibrant
and carefully orchestrated-and idiosyncratically unique-as the best work of
many artists prominent in his own record collection: Scott Walker, Skip Spence,
Fred Neil. His love of doo-wop subtly informs the harmonies and backing vocals that waft through the songs. With its roller rink organ and rumbling timpani, the title tune is propelled forward by the sort of ambitious yet calculated D.I.Y. production associated with legendary '60s British pop producer Joe Meek. From opener "The Silver Lining," with its sense of a life teeming with possibility (and a deft lyrical borrow from Steinbeck and some 11th century poetry), to the rising strings and keyboards of the dramatic finale "Futures," The Ornament sounds full but never overstuffed. This is a record full of judicious choices. Why squander the recording budget on a full string section, when the warbling, imperfect sound of the Mellotron boasts sufficient charms all its own?
Although he wrote all the songs, calling Gold Leaves a solo project is a misnomer.
Olsen had a great deal of help making The Ornament. Jason Quever of Papercuts was by his side through most of the recording process, serving as co-producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist. Quever helped guide editorial choices, keeping scratch vocals when Olsen wanted to go back into the vocal booth and try again, and laid down the four-in-the-morning cello part that haunts "Hanging Window." With a résumé that encompasses tutelage under Motown veterans and credits with Beach House and Brightblack Morning Light, Ben McConnell was an ideal percussionist to anchor Olsen's amorphous musical ideas. Thao Ngyuen (Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Thao & Mirah), Amy Blaschke, and members of the Moondoggies all contributed backing vocals.
"Nothing gold can stay." Memories fade, emotions change... and songs take on new meaning. For Grant Olsen, The Ornament assembles curios and souvenirs from a specific period in his life, yet these tokens will carry a different currency for each listener. Only time will tell if the music of Gold Leaves endures for generations to come, but at the moment, The Ornament certainly sounds like an old favorite in the making.

Southerly sees proper national release for "Champion of the Noisy Negativists" via Greyday Records 6/14 - TOUR DATES
Portland's Southerly sees proper national release for Champion of the Noisy Negativists as Greyday Records reissues the EP June 14, 2011
"There's a wonderful amount of variety here, from the crescendo that capitalizes on the potential energy of Krueger's coiled emotions during the self-doubting "If We All Forgot" to the pedestrian showmanship springing from the piano keys during the hopeful "Soldiers".... Krueger also sings with the fidelity of a songwriter who's seen what he's saying. In fact, he's often better at conveying his sentiments with vocal nuances than with the words themselves." - Grayson Currin, Pitchfork
Portland, OR is widely known for its wealth of dark-pop songwriters, and Southerly is one of its very best. The nom-de-tune of Krist Krueger, Southerly has announced the release of a lush, layered new work titled Champion Of The Noisy Negativists. The EP follows the artist’s celebrated 2007 album, Storyteller And The Gossip Columnist (Greyday Records).
Picking up where Storyteller left off, listeners can hear the natural progression toward what ultimately became Champion: a swooning, eerie, beautiful, morose and uplifting soundscape that serves as an undeniable reminder of the tension, release, intensity and intrinsic harmony that all of us experience and celebrate in life. Unlike the previous disc, Champion is a largely instrumental affair, using vocals as additional layers, rather than the music’s guide.
MP3: Southerly - "Trials"
Champion Of The Noisy Negativists is a continuation in the evolution of songwriter/producer Krist Krueger, whose work has often been compared to fellow moody pop artists The National, Brendan Benson, Richard Ashcroft and Tindersticks. Predominantly recorded at Krueger’s own Sonic Sandbox (Portland, OR) and completed at Haywire Studios (Portland, OR), _Champion _was engineered by both Krueger and Robert Bartleson and produced by Krueger.
The EP is dedicated to and in memory of Jeff Hanson, please visit www.myspace.com/jeffhanson to learn more about him and his beautiful music.
Southerly Summer Dates:
06.15 • Rotture (Portland, OR)
06.16 • Sunset Tavern (Seattle, WA)
06.17 • ZACC Art Gallery (Missoula, MT)
Previous Praise for Southerly:
“...one of the year’s most gripping releases with Champion of the Noisy Negativists. The five-‐track EP is a cauldron of methodical yet deeply moving instrumental rock (although “Allostasis” does contain some enchanting oms) that combines forlorn piano motifs with gradually intensifying, swirling drones and portentous orchestral swells (or very convincing simulacra thereof). This is slowcore animated by subtle Sturm und Drang. Southerly understand that you don’t have to go over the top to drive listeners to tears and trembling; they wield the killing feather. With Champion of the Noisy Negativists, Southerly have achieved a sublime condition of uplifting downheartedness. More bands should follow their example.”
-Dave Segal / The [Seattle] Stranger
“In a city that has as many musicians as it does trees, Krist Krueger is one of the most prolific. Under the Southerly moniker, and in conjunction with OPB Radio, Krueger wrote, recorded, and released a song each week for 22 weeks. It was the second time he’d undertaken such a project. Part of the purpose for the Song-‐a-‐Week series was to showcase that I don’t really write in one style,” says Krueger. Another part is the rush that comes with the immersion in creativity. What’s more impressive and more important than Krueger’s schedule is the thread of quality that ties together his work as Southerly. Songs are not dashed off. They are all rigorous, composed, and fully realized studio executions more Beatles than Daniel Johnston.”
-Andrew Tonry / Portland Mercury
The Prodigy World’s On Fire Released this week CD/DVD & CD/Blu-Ray
“We put a lot into choosing the songs. We wanted to keep the energy going but still wanted to play stuff from every period of The Prodigy. People would expect stuff like ‘Firestarter’ and what have you, but we wanted a few surprises in there too. We did ‘Weather Experience’ and had those lasers in the show as a respect back to the early rave era."
“That day was very special and we’re proud of it “ Liam Howlett

“If there’s only one band you see this decade, look no further” Q
"Vulgar, garish and perfectly old skool…as incendiary as ever…,The Prodigy are the kings of this shit " NME
"A warrior's dance of epic proportions…Not a single stationary body in the audience" 9/10 Rock Sound
“A lot of thought went into the place where we could throw the best party, we never wanted the typical stadium venue so Milton Keynes Bowl was perfect for our first ever UK Warrior’s Dance Festival coz it felt like a mad party in a field. The night was massive for us. It was important to us to bring a proper festival day and night for the people to remember and bring the same intense atmosphere like when we play Brixton Academy.... and it was. Standing on that stage was a truly triumphant feeling for us as the whole place kicked off, we looked out and we were fukin proud……
We never intended to do a live DVD, but when we saw the footage we knew it had to be done…and born out of that we realised we had a great live album too!” Liam, Keef & Maxim….(The Prodigy)
With the audio for the DVD & Blu Ray versions having been engineered by Liam Howlett himself in 5.1 surround sound it’s a chance to re-live that feeling of standing in the crowd all over again or witnessing their blistering performance for the first time.
The release will be a chance for fans to see brand new and re-worked footage of the band including films taken on the road during their ‘Invaders Must Die’ world tour – see the boys in Brazil, Japan, America and of course select performances taken from their explosive tours in the UK and Europe.
There’s also some exclusive gallery photos to explore and some hidden extras which you’ll have to navigate an interactive menu to find!
Directed by award winning director Paul Dugdale, the MKB footage was devised with heavy input and direction from the band throughout.

Young Buffalo To Release Young Von Prettylips EP / Out July 19th On Cantora Records
"It's not often that on the first listen of such a young band that the phrase "a force of nature" zooms to the tip of your tongue, but that's what happens when we listen to this" - Daytrotter
“The exuberant unison vocals, the trebly percussiveness without too much low-end bass whomp, the whoa-oh-ohs—they’re all here. Welcome to the late-noughties revival...” - The Guardian
"feverishly anthemic" - The Line of Best Fit
"Meet Young Buffalo and have an early look at a band that will wind up on countless best of lists at the end of this year." - Hear Ya
“I always got the hand-me-downs,” says Young Buffalo's Jim Barrett, “all of my brother’s old clothes, shoes, and of course, music.” That brother: John —responsible for the frenzied frontman role in Bass Drum of Death—and Jim always gravitated towards the instant gratification of immaculately written pop music as well as grittier bands like Sonic Youth and Nirvana.
While hints of those influences can be found on Young Buffalo's Young Von Prettylips EP, the band runs with them to create their own brand of "joyous noise-pop" (the Guardian.) From the testy time changes and swift call-and-response choruses of “Full Metal Whacket” to the head-circling harmonies and diabolical dynamics of “Only We Can Keep You From Harm” their debut EP is full of ready-made singles. And there’s “Catapilah,” previously released as a 7-inch (via UK imprint Young & Lost Club) that slips some psych into the mix and pays tribute to the Mississippi trio’s early days of driving out to the countryside home of bassist Alex Von Hardberger. (Young Buffalo’s rhythm section is rounded out by guitarist/drummer Ben Yarbrough though the guys often swap instruments live.) “If someone brings their best ideas to the table, we’ll try to find all the different parts to it but if we can’t, we can always switch around and someone else can have a go. By having that ability to swap instruments, we really free ourselves to find the best possible way to write songs. If definitely takes our band to a different creative level because we all feel like we have to bring out best ideas to the table, otherwise there’s a chance it won’t measure up. There’s a healthy competiveness in Young Buffalo which I don’t think is very common.”
When they bring the three strands of creativity together and put them together into a multi-dimensional whole, it makes Young Buffalo an unusual and truly thrilling band to behold. The EP was penned by all three members, collectively creating a sound that straddles the line between pop's melodic heart and rock's chaotic edge.
“’I’m drawn to the experimental side of things because there are no rules,” explains Jim. “You can make something really poppy, but with some rough edges that aren't easy to pick apart and listen to. I really want to straddle that line a little better with whatever we do next.”

Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) Begins U.S. Tour Next Week, Co-Headlining With Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) / 'ARK' LP Out Now On The End Records
Brendan Perry (Dead Can Dance) Begins U.S. Tour Next Week
Co-Headlining With Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins)
ARK LP Out Now On The End Records
“Ark is the first Perry music in 11 years and it doesn't disappoint. Offering a compelling distillation of Dead Can Dance's evocative sound, it feels like a labour of love, with the bulk of the eight tracks meticulously composed.” - Irish Independent
"It is nice to know that there are still people out there willing to buck the industry trend and produce music that is fresh and unique."- www.allvoices.com
"Ark, Brendan Perry's second solo album, sees him returning to his sublime Dead Can Dance sensibilities and the well of inspiration proves deep. The lyrical poetry, vaulting vocals, impressive instrumentation and overarching vision combine to make Ark a highly unusual and thoroughly satisfying work.” - Hot Press
Brendan Perry’s second solo album Ark is now available in North American on The End Records. It is Perry's first studio album in eleven years. As one half of Dead Can Dance for nearly three decades, Brendan’s music remains highly regarded and influential on a global scale helping to redefine new musical genres.
Brendan Perry will kick off a North American co-headline tour with Robin Guthrie on May 30th in Washington, DC. In addition to performing select tracks from his catalogue and Ark, Perry will also be debuting brand new material on this tour.
Recorded in his studio in Ireland, Ark is a solo album in the truest sense, with Brendan playing every instrument, writing all the lyrics and being the sole creative force across the eight tracks. Most of the instrumentation on Ark is derived from samples and synthesisers, and is predicated on a theory of creating ambient, almost soundtrack based accompaniment to the lyricism of the songs. In its range of influences, the album also encompasses music from all four corners of the globe to create a global soundtrack for global themes.
While Ark is not a concept album, it does combine themes which run throughout. The lyrics of opener ‘Babylon’ focus on the current conflicts within the Middle East. ‘The Bogus Man’ and ‘This Boy’ put a human face on those charged with waging war on behalf of self serving political interests. While such dystopian themes could be seen to make for a very bleak experience, Ark is shot through with an emotional warmth and a belief in the redemptive power of humanity from which the album title is derived. Ark is not just a refuge from a world on the brink of self destruction, but also a journey towards a better society and a more altruistic way of life.

Miami’s funky synth-heavy duo Afrobeta has announced their addition to this summer’s Identity Festival lineup, which will touch down in major markets all over North America. They’ll be touring in support of their debut full-length, Under The Streets, which gets a release on August 9th, right before the touring festival kicks off. In addition to this announcement, they’re also thrilled to share the Larry Tee remix of their track “Play House,” which is included on the Play House EP the band released earlier this month via their label, Do IT Music group.
Afrobeta will be joining such fellow heavy-hitting electronic artists such as Holy Ghost!, Pretty Lights, Rusko, Disco Biscuits, Skrillex, DJ Shadow, The Crystal Method, and many, many more on the inaugural Identity Festival tour (all tour dates below).

New Album More Out Now
via Silence Breaks!
"Keith Zarriello's voice carries an eerie, mesmerizing eroticism." – Pitchfork
…one of our favorite songs of all time.”– Gorilla Vs Bear
Off the release of the band’s latest record More on Silence Breaks on May 10th, The Shivers are proud to announce a new string of East Coast tour dates, including shows at the Mercury Lounge and at Glasslands in NYC. And in honor of the band’s new New York dates, the band has made their summertime slow jam “Love Is In The Air” available for free download.
For The Shivers, More was a liberating labor of love reflecting influences from rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues, folk, and everything in between. Using every dime they'd saved, Zarriello and Schornikow traveled to Manchester in the Spring of 2010 to record their latest record in an entirely analog studio. Over five days, the two worked tirelessly, capturing the tracks they had worked on in the small church in Queens where the band practices. The end result was More, an album that runs the gamut of American rock ’n’ roll, delving into everything from gritty Lou-Reed-inspired rock to the swaggering soul of Nina Simone. Starting with the brief piano elegy “My Mouth Is For My Love,” More segues quickly into “Irrational Love,” a bouncy organ-driven rock track with a chorus that sounds like it was plucked from 1966. The album teeters between the upbeat pop of tracks like “Used to Be” and “I Want You Back” to the heartsick, Leonard-Cohen-inspired ballads like “Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars” and “Love Is In The Air.” The album closes with the record’s title track “More,” a slow-building confessional that serves the record’s triumphant last call. It’s an apt end for a record that sounds like an apologetic love note, written on barroom cocktail napkin.
Hailing from Queens, NY, Keith Zarriello began writing music as The Shivers started back in 2001 and has spent the last ten years mining the depths of American music, developing a songwriting style that ranges from earnest, heartbroken ballads to ’60s garage rock revival. In 2004, Zarrellio released Charades, which featured the much lauded track “Beauty,” which earned universal praise from the likes of Pitchfork and The Guardian, and would end up being named Gorilla Vs Bear’s thirteenth best song of the decade. The album also caught the ear of an Australian, classically-trained church organist named Jo Schornikow, who joined the band as a full-time member that year. With Schornikow adding a delicate counterpoint with her piano and keyboard flutters, The Shivers spent the next six years touring aggressively in the U.S. and the U.K., and releasing a grand total of four albums, leading up to the ultimate release of More this year.
The Shivers Tour Dates:
05/29: New York, NY @ Mercury Lounge
06/07: Providence, RI @ MET Cafe
06/10: Fredericksburg, VA @ Read All Over Bookstore
06/15: New Haven, CT @ BAR

Native Instruments Introduces SESSION STRINGS PRO
Native Instruments has just introduced SESSION STRINGS PRO, a significantly extended version of the acclaimed SESSION STRINGS instrument. Based on Native Instruments' latest sampling technology and usable in KONTAKT or the free KONTAKT PLAYER, SESSION STRINGS PRO recreates a contemporary string section with maximum fidelity and versatility, and lends itself to sophisticated pop and dance productions across a wide variety of styles.
Produced by sampling expert Thomas Koritke of e-instruments and based on nearly 50 GB of samples, SESSION STRINGS PRO vastly expands on the original SESSION STRINGS library in every aspect of quality, flexibility and workflow. It is based on four separately captured 11-piece ensembles, representing contemporary and traditional instrument placements, and recorded in two different microphone positions each. The addition of true release samples and twice the amount of "round-robin" variation samples further enhance the sonic authenticity of the instrument, while the new bow noise parameter provides additional control over the sound.
The powerful Animator, based on the unique KSP scripting technology in KONTAKT, is now fully customizable in SESSION STRINGS PRO, allowing users to easily create individual rhythmical phrases with perfect timing and consistency. Twenty-nine specific articulations with up to four velocity layers provide the full expressiveness of a typical string section - with additional staccato, spiccato and glissando types as well as completely new trill articulations. Separate production and performance presets accommodate both studio and live usage of SESSION STRINGS PRO in the most efficient and convenient way. Furthermore, the violin, viola, cello and bass sections can now be played individually, allowing for significantly more varied and sophisticated string arrangement techniques.
SESSION STRINGS PRO is now available for a suggested price of $339 / 299 EUR from authorized dealers and in the NI Online Shop. An upgrade for owners of SESSION STRINGS is available $229 / 199 EUR.
Additional information on SESSION STRINGS PRO is available at

ANCIENT ROMANS is the fifth full-length album from SUN ARAW
Primal Splendour, who sends out innumerable rays, not perceptible by the senses, but collectively thinkable
Heartfelt and marbled, this album is documentation of the slow exit (the triumphal entry): moving the camera back 8 stages along the circumference of the circle to the point where the obverse is reverse, in order to celebrate the building of an edifice and then walk away from it in wisdom, gaining freedom from it.
ANCIENT ROMANS will be available as a 2xLP on white vinyl in a gatefold jacket with an accompanying art book, as well as on CD.

NYC Natives SWEET CYANIDE to Perform at The Studio @ Webster Hall in NYC on June 25th
New York City natives SWEET CYANIDE are set to perform on Saturday, June 25th at The Studio @ Webster Hall in New York City. Tickets are $10 and doors open at 7pm. Opening for SWEET CYANIDE will be the bands Two States and All Points West. SWEET CYANIDE just performed a nearly sold out show at Gramercy Theater in New York City with ZO2.
SWEET CYANIDE spent the greater part of 2009 becoming a favorite opener of rock heavy hitters Halestorm, Bullet For My Valentine, Pop Evil, Extreme, and Charm City Devils; the latter becoming a regular touring partner on the east coast. The band released their first self-titled full-length album in August 2009. In 2010, the band earned a slot as main stage performers at Rock N Rev Fest in Sturgis, SD with Hinder, Three Doors Down, Alice in Chains, and more. The band released their second album, Sweet Cyanide II, in July 2010. Fans can download a copy of Sweet Cyanide II on iTunes and Amazon now.

Roadside Graves "The Outsiders"-inspired LP out 7/19 via Autumn Tone (Aquarium Drunkard's label.) New single via Stereogum; Tour dates!
"...an expansive, at times cinematic album... It’s difficult not loving an Americana band who knows its Outsiders and its Sun City Girls." - Stereogum
"sweet-tempered country-rock is far more slippery than it might first appear, buffered as it is by rich Jayhawks vocal harmonies, Benson's quicksilver guitar leads, and frequent detours that can occasionally conjure images of a roadhouse Bad Seeds... unexpected instrumental flourishes serve well to illuminate the intimate psychic geography that Gleason ambitiously maps out in his lyrics....7.5" - Pitchfork
New Jersey's Roadside Graves will release their new LP We Can Take Care of Ourselves on July 19, 2011 via Autumn Tone Records. The album is inspired by a story dear to the band, S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. Pre-order available soon via autumntone.com.
Roadside Graves Summer 2011 Tour Dates:
06.10 • Metuchen, NJ - Raconteur Books
06.17 • Highland Park, NJ - Nighthawk Books
06.18 • New York, NY - Pianos
06.23 • Philadelphia, PA - M Room
06.25 • Chapel Hill, NC - The Nightlight
06.26 • Nashville, TN - The Basement
06.27 • Baltimore, MD - Joe Squared
06.29 • Rochester, NY - The Bug Jar
06.30 • Burlington, VT - Skinny Pancake
07.01 • Cambridge, MA - The Lizard Lounge
"My wife and I are both teachers, but we rarely talk about teaching beyond a good day versus a bad day. After a few years together and a few hundred dinners I realized the one exception was when she taught S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. During her Outsiders unit, our dinners were always punctuated with tales of students who hated reading suddenly being transformed and bright eyed at the prospect of reading a novel that related authentically to them without being dull.
We were careful to not retell the plot in song as bad broadway; rather we focused on making more nuanced allusions to characters, themes, feelings, and settings. We tried to emphasize the sensitive, frightened sides of the characters, instead of showcasing their thick skin and greaser toughness. Musically and sonically, we avoided a retro sound and kept it thick and modern, with only occasional glimpses of melodies and tones that might have pumped out of their radios at night.
NEW MP3: Roadside Graves - "Love Me More" via Stereogum
The album was recorded in various states of physical distress for the band — a broken thumb, a break out of hives, fever, and coughing fits all graced our time recording and mixing at Strange Weather in Brooklyn with our handsome engineer Daniel Schlett. Some tracks were recorded by Rich Zilg and his mobile studio in a basement in NJ where a heavily-medicated Jeremy did some overdubs while recovering from an appendectomy. In the end, we cooked up eleven songs, ranging from anthems, pop songs, and ballads to a dark synthesizer instrumental to little folk ditties.
Our hope is that the listener, if so moved, can easily tie the songs to particular characters and events of the novel, but that familiarity with the story is not a prerequisite for enjoying the music or personally relating to the songs. Perhaps it will even inspire some people to read the book, or revisit it. Maybe some teachers will use it, kids will hear it, and we can contribute, in our small New Jersey way, to the legacy of one of the greatest stories about pals and trouble ever written."
- John Gleason, Roadside Graves
We Can Take Care of Ourselves closely follows the release of the group's critically-acclaimed prior works You Won't Be Happy With Me (2010) My Son's Home (2009) and No One Will Know Where You've Been (2007).
Roadside Graves were born and bred in the small shaky town of Metuchen, NJ. They grew up together, watched their friends and families rise and fall. There is an intimate camaraderie among the seven friends who make up the band- they sing and play as though they’re sitting in the kitchens and basements of their youth. The music is festive; it eulogizes and celebrates. The sound is organic, driving, full, and unique.
Autumn Tone Records, independently owned and operated, was founded by Justin Gage, who also writes the popular music blog An Aquarium Drunkard, and hosts the weekly Aquarium Drunkard Show on SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Other Autumn Tone releases include J Tillman (of Fleet Foxes), Futurebirds, Le Switch, The Henry Clay People, Happy Hollows, Blair, Daniel Hutchens, and more.
Roadside Graves - Liv Tyler video via Stereogum
Roadside Graves are quickly securing their spot amongst the ranks of Titus Andronicus, Gaslight Anthem, and The Boss himself as one of New Jersey's hardest-working rock 'n roll bands. In the last few years, the band has shared the stage with bands as diverse as These United States, Lucero, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Local Natives, Vivian Girls, The Sadies, Megafaun, Warpaint, Mercury Rev, and even Andrew WK, Jello Biafra, and the Bad Brains.
Previous Press for Roadside Graves:
"...straight-up rock ‘n’ roll with better lyrics and more hardworking energy than most smart, straight-up rock ‘n’ roll bands." – Stereogum
"well-stocked with stirring narratives and sketches that just happen to be almost unremittingly obsessed with the crypt… Perhaps most admirably of all, the Roadside Graves excel at the brave and difficult paradox of suffusing death with life, injecting vivacity and humor into their reflections on mortality...7.0" – Pitchfork, review of My Son's Home
“Alt-country rascals Roadside Graves got heavy metal with a jam about “dirt on my lip and blood in my eye” after the singer split his face open with his mic and bled everywhere. I should have taken video because I can’t find anything that comes close to the level of musicianship these tatted-up guys guys now display.” - Paste Magazine

Nazca Lines Announce Upcoming Full Length Album "Hyperventilation" Out August 23rd on Stressed Sumo Records
Nazca Lines Announce Upcoming Full Length Album "Hyperventilation" Out August 23rd on Stressed Sumo Records * Band to Appear at 2011 Capitol Hill Block Party w/ TV On The Radio, Les Savy Fav and More!
"Intelligently crafted aural madness 8/10" - Rock Sound Magazine
"Damn fine first bite of a North American post-punk alt.rock" - Organ Zine
Since 2005, Seattle based punk band Nazca Lines have been piecing together songs which combine emotionally charged lyrics and a loud post-rock/punk instrumentation. Having stuck it out through a number of lineup changes since the band's formation, founding members and guitarists Cory Alfano and Brett Wedeking have recruited Andy King and Ryan Minch on drums and bass, respectively for their upcoming full length album, "Hyperventilation."
Nazca Lines has a punk lineage which shows initially in song writing and energy; however, given a closer inspection the listener can hear a more contemplative and ponderous side of the band. Recorded at the Red Room in Seattle with producer and Minus the Bear founder Matt Bayles (whose recent production work includes Mastodon, ISIS and Russian Circles), "Hyperventilation" draws inspiration from a variety of the band members' shared influences; most notably the Refused, At the Drive-In and Fugazi.
In February 2011, the band released their self-titled EP through Stressed Sumo Records and will be releasing their latest full length album on August 23rd also through the label. Stressed Sumo Records was set up in Derby, UK in 2007 by Therapy? drummer Neil Cooper and Phil Rhodes.
* Additional guitar on ‘Spike Them All’ and ‘New Volume’ by Cody Votolato (Blood Brothers, Hyro Da Hero and Jaguar Love), piano on ‘New Volume’ by Evan Friday. Hyperventilation was mastered at RFI, Seattle by Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, Fleet Foxes)

NACHTMYSTIUM Induct Bassist, Completing Band Lineup
Chicago black metal assassins NACHTMYSTIUM officially announce their recently recruited full-time bassist, as they welcome Reid Raley of Rwake/Deadbird into the ranks of the band.
Besides founding guitarist/vocalist Blake Judd, NACHTMYSTIUM have forced their way from the depths of the American black metal scene to international popularity over the past decade incorporating temporary lineups from release to release, and presenting a new set of musicians for nearly every tour the band has embarked on. Over recent months, Judd has recruited several other full-time members including lead guitarist Andrew Markuszewski (Avichi, Lord Mantis), drummer Charlie Fell (Lord Mantis, Avichi), and keyboard/synth engineer Sanford Parker (Minsk, Circle Of Animals), now solidifying the crew with the addition of Reid Raley on bass, making this the first "official lineup" for the band, ever.
Stated Judd and NACHTMYSTIUM on Raley joining the band: "Nachtmystium, for the first time in the band's history as a full-time touring band, has a solid live lineup that matches the studio lineup. We intend to move forward and keep this group together indefinitely. It's taken 10 years to put together the perfect band, and now we've got it. So watch for us on the road starting in June and throughout the rest of the year! We anticipate that Reid's presence will not only bring a thunderous low-end onslaught on the live stage, but also will hopefully bring in some new elements into the writing of future Nachtmystium recordings."
Read the full statement at NACHTMYSTIUM's Facebook page.
Catch the full new NACHTMYSTIUM wrecking crew live over the Summer months at the band's confirmed upcoming live attacks, including a co-headlining spot at this year's Alehorn of Power Festival in Chicago June 11, a co-headlining spot at the Central Illinois Metalfest on July 23, and an appearance at Party.San Open Air Festival in Schlotheim, Germany on August 12. The band have constructed a longer set than usual for these performances, mostly comprised of tracks they've not performed live before.
NACHTMYSTIUM Confirmed Performances:
6/11/2011 Alehorn Of Power Festival - Chicago, IL
7/23/2011 Central Illinois Metalfest - Urbana, IL
8/12/2011 Flugplatz Obermehler - Schlotheim, Germany @ Party San Festival
Further details on all ongoing endeavors of NACHTMYSTIUM will be unveiled over the coming weeks.

INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND
INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND (I.N.C.)’s ‘Heaven Sent… Hellbound’ Hits Stores on New Release Date, August 9th, 2011 – To Be Distributed Through Candlelight Records
Exclusive “Behind-The-Scenes” Video of ‘Swallowed’ and ‘Fist of Fascista’ Music Video Shoot is Available Now at MetalInjection.net
Internationally established thrash metal band INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND and Candlelight Records have teamed up to distribute the band’s upcoming full-length release, Heaven Sent…Hellbound, on it’s new release date, August 9th, 2011. The album is being released on Rising Records, and is the band’s first full-length offering in over 20 years.
INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND just wrapped up on shooting two new music videos for the singles ‘Fist of Fascista’ and ‘Swallowed’ a few weeks ago in Brooklyn, NY. A new “behind-the-scenes” video is now available for viewing at MetalInjection.net. Head over to MetalInjection.net to check out the guys discussing the shoot and taking part in general tomfoolery on the rooftops of Williamsburg. The video was shot by director Russell Hasenauer, and the “behind-the-scenes” footage was edited by Kevin Juliff.
Through humble beginnings in Connecticut, INDESTRUCTIBLE NOISE COMMAND exceeded their own expectations and the expectations of others with two successful full-length Giant Records releases, Razorback (1987) and The Visitor (1988). Giant Records signed I.N.C. after witnessing the band’s crushing live performances with the likes of Exodus, Megadeth and King Diamond; all of which taking place only six months after they had graduated high school. In 1988 with The Visitor, the band hit #1 on the CMJ Metal charts and stole the U.K. #2 Import slot out from underneath Aerosmith. Now based in New York City, the band is back with their Bleed the Line EP and Heaven Sent… Hellbound. I.N.C. is an original pioneer of the thrash metal scene, resurrected in order to take back a genre recently flooded with neo-thrash carbon copies. Revived and back with a vengeance, I.N.C. is ready to prove ownership of the scene in 2011.
