SUNCITY ACT III: “ORISA BOOTCAMP AT DUSK”
Amayo’s Fu Arkistra – a unique afro-beat ensemble based in Williamsburg and led by the lead singer, percussionist and composer for the acclaimed Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra – present a short musical show inspired by mythology of the Chinese Lion and the Yoruba Orisa and Agungun traditions of Nigeria. Their sound is a blend of African spiritual rhythms, traditional Chinese lion rhythms, highlife, funk, and jazz, with hints of Kung Fu and eastern philosophers.

This film explores the transformative role of hip-hop on politics in Senegal, West Africa during the February 2007 presidential election campaign. The documentary mixes interviews, freestyles, and commentary from journalists, artists and politicians. Originally shot as a series of shorts distributed via the internet, the film explores the boundaries of guerrilla-style production & distribution.
