When Mustard Plug formed in the Midwest in 1991, it was their fierce DIY work ethic that connected the members, ingrained in them from growing up in the 1980's hardcore and punk scenes.  This background would continue to buoy the band for over 20 years right up to their forthcoming seventh album, Can't Contain It, set for a release on legendary independent punk label No Idea on January 14, 2014. The band released a new track "White Noise" today off Can't Contain It and pre-order for the record is available today on the No Idea webstore.

Can't Contain It was funded by an overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaign which saw the band more than double their initial funding goal.  On the new record, Mustard Plug have returned to the DIY blueprint that the band was built upon, embracing all the school-of-hard knocks craftsmanship and wisdom they have earned along the way.  Their first record in six years, the tracks on Can't Contain It are informed by 22 years of songwriting experience while retaining the youthful energy that has endeared Mustard Plug to their fans.

The record was tracked at bassist Rick Johnson’s Cold War Studios, giving the band the flexibility to experiment with adding new layers and dimensions that were not possible on prior recordings given time constraints.  Many of their musician friends (Dan Potthast, Sean Bonnett, Mark Petz, Corey Ruffin) were tapped to contribute, lending a denser, more intricate sound to the new record.  Can't Contain It was mixed at Bill Stevenson's Blasting Room Studios (Descendents, Hot Water Music, Bouncing Souls).  Underground icon Jeff Rosenstock (Bomb the Music Industry) designed the album packaging, while noted artists Craig Horkey and Larry Kole created alternative limited edition album covers and posters.

"I think this record is going to force a lot of people to re-assess what Mustard Plug is," says vocalist Dave Kirchgessner.  "I feel we've turned a new chapter in the band.  Instead of just trying to document a bunch of songs that we play live, we took our time and got more creative in the studio and built recordings that stand on their own. Our line up is the tightest its ever been.  This album is strong evolution in our sound and our art while still staying true to the goal of playing party music for punk rockers," he explains.

As band that's played over 1500 shows and sold over 200,000 albums during their career, it's evident that Mustard Plug have far surpassed making just party music, instead helping to create and bridge an incredibly vibrant ska scene from the underground to the mainstream.  Can't Contain It is the next step in continuing to build their legacy, and sees the band coming full circle back to the DIY community that they were born out of to release their best record to date.

Today, Brooklyn resident and unconventional electronic artist, Chrome Sparks, has shared "Lookin At Me" (please post & share), a new track from a forthcoming EP due out next year on Australian label, Future Classic.  Fader, who premiered the track, is calling it "a little victory dance, an ass-wiggling track with munchy, munchy drums."

ABOUT CHROME SPARKS:
Inspired by a background in classical percussion and an obsession with synthesizers, soon to be Michigan electronic God, Jeremy Malvin creates music under the name Chrome Sparks.  Jeremy grew up in Pittsburgh, then went to music school at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  Two years later, he left school and went on extensive tours as the drummer for Stepdad, Miniature Tigers, and Rich Aucoin.  Jeremy currently resides in Brooklyn, where he spends his time working on music in his bedroom, often leaving it to play DJ sets.  Pitchfork has hailed Chrome Sparks as a "Midwestern phenotype of M83" and his music has been called “An aqueous, ethereal experience melding signature vintage video game sounds with delicate layers of soft pulsing light, tiny twinkling bells and swirling quirks of synthesizer effects to create this underwater treasure trove filled with sparkling, musical gems." by The Line of Best Fit.
Although Jeremy works on the recordings alone and has not done many live performances, the Chrome Sparks live realization has had many different incarnations, ranging from a one man show to an eight piece band.  Currently, Jeremy does live performances with two dear friends.  The three friends have an undeniable chemistry while performing, composing a reincarnation of the usually singular nature known to Chrome Sparks.  The threesome surprisingly juxtapose live instrumental qualities known to the drums and tambourine with electronic additives, to put a refreshing spin on synthetic tracks.

Ducky Drops "Two Over Ten" Video Today, Single ft. Natasha Kmeto Remix Out Dec 10!

Ducky

Two Over Ten Single Package Out December 10

“Two Over Ten” Video Unveiled w/ Paste Magazine!

“ …blends crisp handclaps and four-on-the-floor pulse with a warm, two-drinks-in bass line.” – SPIN

Ducky isn't just a pretty voice, though—she's a wizard in the studio …” – VICE

Following her critically acclaimed Air U Turn Me Up singles, Brooklyn-based Ducky, aka Morgan Neiman, today announces a new single package, Two Over Ten- primed for release December 10th. The package will also include a remix via Portland-based producer Natasha Kmeto.

Never one to shy away from cutting-edge production & risqué lyrics, “Two Over Ten” finds Morgan exploring her more vulnerable side, with powerful lines like “you’re gonna make it hurt, and that’s okay- I like to feel afraid” set atop haunting instrumentation.

The “Two Over Ten” video, directed by Ben Dewey, reflects the minimalistic elements of the song, with warped cinematography to match the track’s shattering bass. In one scene, Ducky finds herself as a modern-day geisha, and in another, covered solely in fluorescent body paint. The “Two Over Ten” video premiered with Paste Magazine & is available for posting HERE. We encourage you to share & stay tuned for more from Ducky coming soon!

MUTOID MAN: Debut LP Unleashed At Lambgoat Helium Head Out This Week Via Magic Bullet Records

MUTOID MAN: Debut LP Unleashed At Lambgoat
Helium Head Out This Week Via Magic Bullet Records

An ultra-amplified rock and roll juggernaut, the infectious new act, MUTOID MAN, was formed by guitarist/vocalist Stephen Brodsky of Cave In and drummer Ben Koller of Converge, joined now by bassist Nick Cageao. Churning out some of the most revved-up dirge rock imaginable on their debut album, Helium HeadMUTOID MAN's spaced-out, noxious blend of mega-jacked riffery is fueled by neckbreaking, white-knuckled battery, resonating with an awesome tone created by the band moving into a warehouse in Brooklyn for nearly an entire year attaining the properly foundation-crumbling amplification. Following its digital release this past Friday, this coming Black Friday, November 29th will yield the physical versions of Helium Head, as Magic Bullet Records puts the CD and three different colors of vinyl out on the streets.

In preparation for the devastation today Lambgoat is hosting a stream of the entire Helium Head experience. Get crushed RIGHT HERE.

After their maiden live performance earlier this Fall, MUTOID MAN this week released details on their upcoming record release show, once again at Brooklyn's ultra-rad libations portal, Saint Vitus Bar; the shit hits the fan on Friday, December 13th, with more live actions to be announced in the near future.

MUTOID MAN Helium Head Record Release Show:
12/13/2013 Saint Vitus Bar - Brooklyn, NY w/ Manalive, Summoner

The high-water marks within the canon of heavy music can typically be both rapidly acknowledged and recognized by album names alone. Jane DoeUntil Your Heart StopsJupiter... Quite often, because of how impacting and paradigm-shifting the first listens are, fans of said albums can vividly recall the whens and wheres of the first time they encountered or purchased these works. The energy these MUTOID MAN guys naturally create when they jam-out is almost unspeakable. A jacked-up album firing on all cylinders as well as a few nitro tanks and rocket boosters opened to the max,Helium Head is like classic rock on bath salts and a case of energy bars.

"Simply put, this is a tenacious unapologetic ripper of a record. The six tracks and lone cover included here are an adrenalized collection of Cave In's careening prog heft coupled with Converge's relentless drive. With no song crossing the three minute mark, nearly all tracks double as shots of aural adrenaline delivered right through the sternum. 4.5/5" - The PRP

"Whatever demons have invaded these two men clearly aren't the kind that are easily exorcised, but the pair does its best, making Helium Head one of the most blistering yet complex records of the year." - Alarm Magazine

"Mutoid Man plays superheavy stoner pop, and these songs are jam-packed with sugary melodies that sit on top of atomic-bomb-heavy guitars and are propelled by Koller's signature dexterous, over-the-top drum kit pummeling. It's not as extreme and chaotic as Converge, and it's not as expansive and thought-out as Cave In, but this duo creates a massive sonic boom that in the end is just a whole lot of smokey fun." - The Chicago Reader

"Though no song reaches the three-minute mark, the streamlined, vicious songwriting compacts whole albums' worth of odd time signatures, abrupt transitions, and intricate polyrhythms into concise bursts of energy. The songs stand as a testament to the members' facility with such compositional tools; an intimate familiarity bred by decades' worth of immersion, a level of exposure that allows them to turn what could easily become pretentious and showy into a singular whole, equally accesible and experimental, conceptually developed and frantic." - RVA Mag

"...quickfire bursts of hardcore-driven, psychedelic pop metal that somehow manages to combine unrelenting heaviness with pop hooks and a good dose of prog-rock madness thrown in for good measure." - Echoes And Dust

“In a perfect world, Black would be your new favorite diva” – PopMatters

"Sylvia's voice-- a supple coil of smooth velvet." –Time Out NY

“Betty Black’s spine-tingling vocals are an exotic blend of Julie London, Lena Horne and Dusty Springfield, with a Dinah Washington snarl lurking just beneath the velveteen surface for good measure.” –My Old Kentucky Blog

“Just like alt-rock sirens Alison Mosshart and Karen O, Betty Black has a strange amalgamation of pop and grunge in her voice, giving her the ability to sing sweetly, but not without forcing you to wonder if there’s pain bubbling beneath the surface”– Okayplayer

Betty Black releases Fatality of Love (The Remix EP) today on KID Recordings. In celebration, she is sharing the “Fatality of Love” (Aram Mix), which puts a dancehall infused electro spin on the smoldering original. Listen to the track here, please post and share.

Fatality of Love (The Remix EP) features the sultry original with mixes by Aram, avant-garde drummer/artist and former KUDU band mate Deantoni Parks (who has also worked with Mars Volta, John Cale, Me’shell Ndgeocello and Kimbra) and French producer/composer Pino Rastovitch (whose quixotic downtempo rework recalls AIR and Goldfrapp), as well as, the new recording “Possessed”.

It’s the latest offering from Betty Black’s gritty and darkly seductive album Bad Weather, which includes “Killing Time”, the slow-burning “Am I Not Your Girl?”, and the anthemic title track. Released this past summer with the bonus track “Bad Weather (Antipop & Analog Boy Remix)” from Télépopmusik’s own Antipop and former Autour de Lucie guitarist, Analog Boy, the gripping set was composed, arranged and produced by Black along with co-producer/engineer Rudyard Lee Cullers (Yeah Yeah Yeahs/ Basement Jaxx/ Bright Eyes) and Jamin Gilbert.

Betty Black is the brainchild of multi-talented singer/songwriter and musician Sylvia Black. Over the past six years, Black has established herself as a sonic rebel with an indomitable spirit and a fearless approach to music. She’s gained international acclaim as the lead vocalist for New York-based dark electronic pop outfit KUDU, and for her successful co-writes and collaborations with Black Eyed Peas, Moby, William Orbit, Kelis, The Noisettes, Spank Rock, Benny Benassi, The Knocks and, most recently, RUN DMT and Télépopmusik, which have amassed sales over 5 million copies worldwide! Her collaboration with Run DMT – “Starlight” - is currently the most added dance release on all US college radio stations.

BL'AST!: Resurrected Hardcore Outfit Announces Live Lineup; Band's First Shows In Over Fifteen Years Confirmed

BL'AST!: Resurrected Hardcore Outfit Announces Live Lineup
Band's First Shows In Over Fifteen Years Confirmed

Following announcements over recent months proclaiming the release of Blood! -- the newly-released but vintage recordings from iconic '80s Santa Cruz surf/skate/hardcore act, BL'AST! - the band now confirms their current live lineup which will take over stages in the coming weeks and onward for the first time in over a decade and a half!

Original BL'AST! alumni, vocalist Clifford Dinsmore (also of Dusted Angel, Gargantula) and guitarist Mike Neider have recruited Nick Oliveri (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator) on bass and drummer Hoss Wright (The Exies, Mondo Generator) to flesh out the brand new 2013 live lineup. Having bashed out a solid set behind closed doors in random sessions in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz over recent months, BL'AST! is ready to rage once again! The band has already been confirmed to supply support to the mighty Neurosis alongside YOB on two California shows at the end of the year; December 28th in Santa Ana, also with Helen Money, and December 29th in San Francisco, also joined by The Body. Another show is coming together in LA in mid-January with more shows to be announced shortly.

Stated Clifford Dinsmore on the band's newly re-ignited status: "The upcoming Neurosis shows really have us feeling the fire, and preparation has been intense! Nick and Hoss are really stepping up to the plate. This new lineup is vital in the continuation of BL'AST! and the addition of new blood makes it even more bombastic and heavy."

BL'AST! Live Actions:
12/28/2013 The Observatory Orange County - Santa Ana, CA w/ Neurosis, YOB, Helen Money [info]
12/29/2013 The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco, CA w/ Neurosis, YOB, The Body [info]
1/18/2014 The Vex - Los Angeles, CA

Now available worldwide via Southern Lord is Blood!, the vintage mid-80s BL'AST! recordings resurrected by Dave Grohl, mixed at his 606 Studios on the legendary Neve console as featured in the Grohl-produced documentary Sound City. Additionally, the recordings were from a rare lineup in the band's lineage, being the only recordings ever made while short-lived second guitarist William Duvall (Neon Christ, currently the vocalist for Alice In Chains) was a part of the BL'AST! family. Formed in 1982, BL'AST! released their debut album, The Power of Expression in 1985, scorching audiences everywhere with their unique and innovative, technical and boundary-free style of raging hardcore punk. This caught the attention of SST Records who released the band's second album, It's In My Blood, in 1987, as well as their third LP, Take The Manic Ride in 1989. BL'AST!'s wide-eyed, ambitious approach and intense perseverance became an influence for many bands to come.

Check out video interviews on the rebirth of the recordings at Noisey AT THIS LOCATION and stream Blood! alongside an in-depth feature including Dinsmore, Grohl, ex-guitarist/current Alice in Chains vocalist William Duvall and more RIGHT HERE.

CLOUDS: Atmospheric Doom Misanthropes Join The Domestic Genocide Roster

CLOUDS: Atmospheric Doom Misanthropes Join The Domestic Genocide Roster

Atmospheric doom misanthropes, CLOUDS, are pleased to join forces with Domestic Genocide Records for the release of their forthcoming debut album, Doliu.

A multi-national project featuring members of Shape Of Despair, Eye Of Solitude, Panthiest, Officium Triste, Imper Luminis and Hamferd, CLOUDS orchestrate solemn odes of pain and sorrow dedicated to departed souls. Forged following the passing of someone close and dear, to hear CLOUDS is to lose yourself in a grievous journey through paths of desolation, anguish and despair.

Said the band in a collective statement: "We are extremely happy to have found a label which shares our passion and ideology. That is something hard to find nowadays. Together with Domestic Genocide we will bring you sorrow."

Adds the Domestic Genocide collective: "There is a comfort in the bitterness that surrounds the sound, the lyrics, the interpretation and the passion with which the songs have been written. And with the help of Domestic Genocide Records, CLOUDS will be bringing sorrow; the music will at once touch and torture."

Doliu will be released via Domestic Genocide in the New Year. Portions of the album's proceeds will be donated to Sponsorachild.org. Further info, including street date and teaser tracks to be announced in the coming weeks.

Somewhere in the wretched void called sin, a torturous claim on life, an imminent determination takes its reign on the very edges of the naked soul. Stripped of dreams and thoughts and virtue; stripped of joy and greed and lust. A powerless light now fades in dust, of a martyrized wish which now drowns in remorse, sorrow and regret; regret and nothingness which now surrender and bow before pitiful hope.

Pre- face stuffing, watch MTV Hive's premiere of Potpourri of Pearls' "Boyfriend"

"One boyfriend is better than none, amirite? Not so if you’re talking about the beau depicted in Potpourri of Pearls‘ new video for “Boyfriend,” off of their upcoming sophomore record, We Went to Heaven.

Directed by lead singer Adam Chad Brody — who studied film at UCLA — the video is a rather simple affair, featuring Rocky Horror-esque lips singing the tense jam in extreme closeup and flowers burning to ash.
“[The song is a] soap opera bad boyfriend narrative: You want him, want to save him, but he will destroy himself and take you down with him,” Brody told MTV News. “The bad boyfriend always brings flowers, but they are on fire. They are still beautiful but they are dangerous — just like his madness.”
“Boyfriend” comes off of the band’s next record, whose name, We Went To Heaven, was inspired by the Heaven’s Gate cult — so you just know the rest of the record is going to be as uplifting as this jam/vid.
We Went To Heaven drops on February 11, 2014."

Watch the video for "Boyfriend" over at MTV Hive.

"An album of massive builds, harsh climaxes, and ambitious track lengths, Beyond All Light necessitates a monstrous finale... Where other acts might break the momentum, Anagnorisis simply pile layers beneath the musical heap, with the rhythm section somehow growing ever a bit more malevolent." - Pitchfork

"One of my very favorite black metal albums of 2013... epic, melodic, technically flawless black metal that is somehow also brutal, raw, and kinetic: The whole thing is somehow equal parts Dissection and Nails." - Stereogum

"American black metal is a sprawling continent; a manifest destiny yet to be frozen in place, ossified, and made into a museum piece. It's a thing that moves and lives and breathes and, frankly, doesn't need your recognition. I think Anagnorisis understands this, and it's why Beyond All Light, despite speaking in a familiar language, still sounds boldly new and ultimately vital. 8.5/10" - Last Rites

"... dynamic and absolutely epic, capturing haunting atmospheres and reaching devastating peaks." - Heavy Blog Is Heavy

In addition, The Attack has recently premiered their new song "Under The Gun" which will appear on the band's upcoming new LP of the same name out in 2014 (more details coming soon).

About The Attack:

" For devotees on either side... ...the Attack make us realize that there’s more in common than divergent between traditional punk rock and hardcore." - mxdwn.com

"...this quartet delivers the kind of vintage melodic hardcore that will take true punkers right back to the days of CBGB's Sunday matinees..." - Pop Matters

"...Florida-based group that intentionally straddles the line between classic hardcore and old school melodic street punk." - Metal Sucks

"...turn-of-the-century melodic punk/hardcore." - Punknews

"If the Attack is nostalgic for anything, then, it’s not a sound, but an attitude that three chords, a six-pack and a fire in your belly is all you need to overthrow the system." - The Orlando Weekly

...'some honest, true to the cause punk rock..." - Exclaim!

The Attack brings Punk back to basics; short, fast riffing songs about the social, music, and media driven politics of today. The simplicity of punk has been lost on a divided underground driven more by fashion and ruled by icons that have become the same rock stars the punk movement rebelled against in the seventies. Across the country everything Punk, from all ages shows to facebook pages, has become a popularity contest that defies the original intent of the alternative music scene.

The Attack is ruled by a DIY ethos and driven by a goal to re-unite the punks and skins and hardcore kids under the same underground flag. The Attack's lyrics are true shot from all sides anthems. The Attack never panders to one political party or music scene forming an opinion, agenda and sound of its own.

Hate Eternal Bassist Reveals Another New Tune From Forthcoming Christmas Album; Holiday Collection To Be Released On Black Friday!

Hate Eternal Bassist Reveals Another New Tune From Forthcoming Christmas Album; Holiday Collection To Be Released On Black Friday!

Hate Eternal bass sorcerer J.J. Hrubovcak recently unveiled the details of his Death Metal Christmas - Hellish Renditions Of Christmas Classics creation. Composed and produced by J.J. with vocals and artwork, by brother/Monstrosity throat Mike Hrubovcak, Death Metal Christmas - Hellish Renditions Of Christmas Classics was engineered by Hate Eternal mastermind Erik Rutan and J.J., mixed and mastered by Brian Elliott all at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and boasts five diseased recreations of some of the season's darkest hymns.

Far from another hokey holiday metal record, Christmas - Hellish Renditions Of Christmas Classicsis an epic death metal composition first and a seasonal album second featuring updated arrangements, new themed lyrics and enough brutality to crush your joyousness for years to come. Since many of these original hymns were dark in nature, they were obvious concept choices. The lyrics have been altered to portray a possible future outcome to mankind's current path and focus on Azrael, the angel of death in some Islam, Sikhism and Hebrew lore. The story follows a child (Azrael) born to a wealthy family heavily involved in politics throughout the generations. The child is not named Azrael but is infused with its spirit and is predestined by Abaddon (the Destroyer) to cleanse the earth of man.

Today Revolver brings you second track "Earthen Kings (We Three Kings)." Elaborates Hrubovcak, "At this point in the story, the kings of the world have already created regional unions to help them maintain a tighter grip over citizens and global policy. This was done at the behest of Azrael, under the guise of solving other smoke screen surface issues and has already caused suffering as a by-product of new policies. Little do they know, the greatest suffering is to come. The kings of the world are bringing alms to the new king (Azrael) and continually granting him more influence over policy until he is officially crowned (in public or behind the scenes) and turns on these kings."

Get merry with "Earthen Kings (We Three Kings)," currently streaming courtesy of Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION.

Additionally, you can still check out opening number, "Unrest For Melancholy Men (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen)" HERE. The intro to the diseased holiday tale centers itself on Azrael's birth and foreshadows what's to come.

J.J. Hrubovcak is the current bass player for Hate Eternal and can be heard on Phoenix Amongst the Ashes released on Metal Blade Records. Hrubovcak has performed in numerous capacities over the years on lead and rhythm guitars, bass and drums. Prior to joining Hate Eternal in 2008, Hrubovcak  played lead and rhythm guitars in Divine Rapture and Vile, drums in Mourning, wrote the Metal Rules Radio theme song, played in black metal band ICE (Imperial Crystalline Entombment), and has performed with a host of other notable bands over the last two decades.

Mike Hrubovcak is current vocalist for Monstrosity and Vile and founder of avant-garde death metal act Azure Emote. He's performed vocals and written lyrics in Abraxas and Divine Rapture and other acts over the years and is a renowned artist designing CD layouts, T-shirts, ads, etc for bands throughout the metal community including Pathology, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder and Grave. His work has been featured in galleries, published in hard cover art books and used in feature film Dream House.
