VOODOO 2013: PEARL JAM and NINE INCH NAILS headline 15th Anniversary Celebration

15 magical years.
2000 acts.
Over one million guests.

Unforgettable Halloween weekends in the city where music never stops, New Orleans.

This November, the VOODOO MUSIC + ARTS EXPERIENCE will celebrate its 15th anniversary November 1, 2 and 3 with a line-up led by headliners Pearl Jam and Nine Inch Nails.

For Pearl Jam, this will be the band’s VOODOO debut and their first show in the city since 2010.  This performance will mark Nine Inch Nails’ fourth appearance at VOODOO.  NIN’s Trent Reznor, a former New Orleans resident who was given the keys to the city when NIN played a free, post-Katrina Voodoo in 2005, is re-launching Nine Inch Nails since going on hiatus in 2009.

“Recently I haven't spent nearly enough time in my favorite city in the world and I'm happy to announce I'm bringing Nine Inch Nails to New Orleans for Voodoo,” says Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.

“New Orleans is one of the most musically and culturally rich cities in the world,” says Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready.  “We've played some of our most memorable shows there and can't wait to return this November.  I am personally looking forward to seeing my friends Steve and Michel Gleason. I'm also stoked to see my friend Steve Rehage, eat some gumbo and maybe go get a tattoo at Electric Ladyland or shop for records at Peaches!”

Here are the first 15 VOODOO 2013 acts: Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Calvin Harris, Bassnectar, Paramore, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Afrojack, Boys Noize, The Gaslight Anthem, Big Gigantic, How To Destroy Angels, Cults, Alkaline Trio, Desaparecidos and Robert DeLong.  VOODOO’s annual line-up features top-tier and innovative artists from a variety of musical genres which reflects the multitude of cultures that define this historic and beloved American city.  Once again, concert-goers will worship the music at VOODOO’s six unique performance areas, each of which is enhanced by the use of interactive art.

“Each year Voodoo is an independent roll of the dice--with its own challenges…and memories,” says Stephen Rehage, the founder/producer of VOODOO.  “The few times I allow myself to reflect on what Voodoo has accomplished in 15 years, I realize that I’m incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to do what I love with a team of incredibly talented people who work every year to create  the experience.  And we're just getting warmed up for Halloween weekend in New Orleans.”

Credentials and camping passes for VOODOO 2013 are available now via  Prices (as of April 15) are as follows: Three-day weekend credentials: $175; Loa VIP credentials: $500; Loa VIP credentials with parking: $550.  Camping options include:  Weekend Camping for (2) two persons for $50; Weekend Camping for (2) two persons with parking for $65.  This option allows campers to arrive to their 12x12 site with their own tent.  Amenities include:  24-hour security, medical assistance, AM and PM food trucks and other activities.  Loa VIP Camping (luxury camping) for two (2) persons (including artist credentials for the special behind the fences access and Loa privileges) for $2,500.  These ready-to-go, pre-built safari tents include beds, linens, furniture, carpet, electricity, reserved parking, premium showers, bathrooms, 24-hour security and medical assistance, breakfast, late night snacks and more.

The 15th anniversary VOODOO celebration will also mark the debut of City Park’s Festival Grounds, a new permanent home for VOODOO.  Home to the VOODOO since its 1999 debut--with the exception of 2005 VOODOO which was displaced by the city’s hurricane damage--New Orleans’ 1,300 acre City Park is the region’s principal recreation site that attracts over seven million visitors each year.

More details about the credential options and the most up-to-date information on VOODOO 2013 can be found at 2013 VOODOO partners include: Toyota, Bud Light, Fuse, Slacker and American Rag.  The Voodoo Music + Arts Experience is a Rehage Entertainment Event.

On Tour Now!

Antarctic rock-gods GWAR today released the first line-up for this year's GWAR-B-Q, located at Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, VA. This year sees the event entering its fourth consecutive year while offering its most bone-crushing line-up yet, setting the stage for what will certainly be the most massive GWAR-B-Q in the history of the human or any other race!

The event is scheduled to take place Saturday August 17th, 2013 at Hadad's Water Park in Richmond, VA, located at 7900 Osbourne Turnpike. Doors will open at 10:00 AM and the first band will hit the stage at 11:00 AM. For more information be sure to visit: Ticket information will be announced shortly.

Local faves and international thrashers Municipal Waste will provide main support to the mighty GWAR, and in turn will be supported by a plethora of devastating acts like Corrosion of Conformity, Pig Destroyer, Cannabis Corpse, Loincloth, Kung-Fu Dykes and many more. Once again Hadad's will host not one but TWO stages which will be packed with bands all day...and finally there are rumors of a yet-to-be-announced act that will put this year's GWAR-B-Q 2013 completely over the top!

"Once again we blow the horn of war and set into motion the gears that grind us towards the greatest GWAR-B-Q yet," said unrepentantly horny front-thing Oderus Urungus, fresh off debuting GWAR's new "GWAR-B-Q" sauce at a strongly attended event at the world-famous Grinders in Kansas City (see more details HERE). "We will not only be rockin' like Dokken and slippin' the cock in, but we will shoving a wealth of GWAR products down your throat...not only our new GWAR-B-Q sauce, but our very own beer, Impaled Ale! Eat and drink yourself into a diabetic stupor, then puke it all up in the slam pit! It's gonna fucking rule!"

That's right, the 4th annual GWAR-B-Q is poised to make yet another stinky mess in the crotch of today's scene--BE THERE OR SUFFER THE SHAME OF BEING INCREDIBLY PATHETIC!

In other Slave Pit news GWAR is wrapping up a new album, their 13th, which is the band's first since the passing of longtime guitarist Cory Smoot in late 2011. Coming out later this year, the album features the debut of Pustulus Maximus, cousin of the mighty departed one, Flattus Maximus. The band kicks off their tour tonight in Tucson, AZ and will be on the road through April 25th in Jacksonville, FL. These dates will serve as the final leg of the "Fate or Chaos" tour, which chronicles GWAR's epic struggle with an angry God.

The GWAR show on April 17th in Denver (Englewood,CO) will be broadcast live on AXS TV. The broadcast will air at 12:00 AM EST/ 9:00 PM PST. SKINNY PUPPY Ready To Brandish Their "weapon" New Album Out May 28, 2013

“The human animal is a 'weapon',” says SKINNY PUPPPY vocalist niVek ohGr about the eponymous title of their upcoming album (Metropolis Records; release date: May 28, 2013). “Every action and thought, conceived then carried out; whether political, physical or spiritual, has the potential to cause harm and misery; just as the same action, not underwritten with fear and misinformation, but carried by only positive intent would have the opposite effect.”

Standing as a commentary on that which it is named after, Weapon, or more specifically, to the concurrent glorification of the gun culture and simultaneous horror at the devastation guns can cause, the stunning new album tackles the difficult topic in an intelligent and philosophical way without losing track of the music built around it. A return to form of sorts while still pushing forward as Skinny Puppy always has, Weapon is a tour de force whose pop undertones are a compelling counterpoint to the vocals and lyrics that reflect our mass homogenization of an instrument of death into an entertainment centerpiece.

“The human race has been in bondage; boondoggled by the fixed shell game, shill-laden pro lobbyist agenda for nuclear energy,” he continues. “While claiming to be 'clean energy', 96% of what comes out is completely foreign to our planet and completely toxic; it is anything but 'clean'.” It is this sort of intelligent musical discourse that has been Skinny Puppy’s protocol for over three decades. Godfathers of the electro-industrial music scene, Ogre along with cEvin Key have been major voices in issues that plague society, from vivisection to pollution to drugs to even the advent of AIDS. Similarly as our culture dives deeper into the threat of being a firearm-based society, tackling this idea of weaponry as a centralizing focus of society was only natural. “We manufacture weapons ... pure and simple,” Ogre explains. “The idea of boiling water to make steam was only the afterthought and a means to sell this Machiavellian weapons program to the populace.”

Kicking off with “wornin’” in all of its midnight dancefloor glory, Weapon combines all the elements of the genre that they trailblazed – fusing elements of electro, new wave, industrial, and rock. “We had some talk about doing an album with only the tools available at that earlier period of '83,” he says. “What became clear, however, was a need to get back to simple and direct song writing with strong abstract themes that correlate to the deeper concepts within the recording.” From the pulsating rhythm of "illisiT" to the analog synths of "gLowbeL" to the mechanized "tsudanama" with its sonic bends and warps, the album embraces the Skinny Puppy sound wholeheartedly and raises it up a notch. “The disc starts off strong with 'wornin' which happened to be the first track that lit the way on this path that became weapon,” he says. “The two songs following ['iLLisiT' and 'salvo'] are two of my favorites for reasons mentioned in the answer above - simple and direct."

Formed in 1982, Skinny Puppy has gone through many shifts and changes but the duo of cEvin Key and Ogre has always remained constant and consistent. When asked about that consistency, he replies, “The obvious answer being that the two flesh bag components, who first conceptualized Skinny Puppy, are still breathing and eating. What differentiates us perhaps is that we have been lucky to work with very talented artists throughout our careers - fellow bandmate Dwayne Goettel, producers like Dave Ogilvie, Mark Walk, and mixers like Ken Marshall and Adrian Sherwood have aided and helped us contour and hone in our sound; reign in the beast, so to say.”

With a new chapter added to the Skinny Puppy legacy with the upcoming release of this album, the album's subject manner remains front, center and pronto, as it should. With massacres seemingly occurring with more frequency and gun control still a hot button topic in politics, it's fitting that it's a topic they feel needs to be addressed. "Weapons and pharmaceuticals become the last bastion of investment wealth, the last stop for manufacturing in a crumbling power system still promoting mutual assured destruction,” Ogre concludes. "To maim, sicken and control, by genetically radiating and bombing populations back to the Stone Age; then manage the mutations through new medicines while claiming the race for a cure of this self-inflicted environmental disease is right around the corner… Weapons then procure the evolutionary next step. We are weapons.”

Skinny Puppy is niVek ohGr, cEvin Key and Mark Walk. Weapon will be released via Metropolis Records on May 28, 2013.

Limited Edition Flexi Disc Box Set "Astralwerks: Music In 20/20" to be released on Record Store Day 2013

Includes Rare and Exclusive Tracks by Air, Diamond Rings, Hot Chip, Kings Of Convenience, Kraftwerk, & The Kooks

View the trailer here

(New York, NY – April 5th, 2013) - Founded in 1993 in New York City, Astralwerks Records began as an independent boutique label releasing visionary records that helped ignite two explosive waves of musical creativity: first with Electronica in the '90s, and more recently with EDM in the new millennium. Over the last 20 years, the label has become one of America's pre-eminent homes for unique and forward-thinking artists, nurturing a roster of genre-bending musicians and bands.

To celebrate this 20-year anniversary, Astralwerks is proud to announce the release of a strictly limited edition box set entitled Astralwerks: Music in 20/20, produced exclusively for Record Store Day on April 20th, 2013. The box set spans 20 artists, over 20 years, and includes 20 tracks pressed onto retro-groovy vinyl flexi discs. Included are exclusives or rarely heard bonus tracks from Air, Diamond Rings, Hot Chip, Kings Of Convenience, Kraftwerk and The Kooks. Astralwerks General Manager Glenn Mendlinger observes “Astralwerks is proud to celebrate this important milestone for the label and to document our history in artist development and ground-breaking music.  It is incredible to be a driving force in electronic music and DJ culture for 20 years starting with The Future Sound Of London, The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim, leading into such iconic legends as Kraftwerk and Pet Shop Boys and landing where we are today with David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia.”  He adds, "This anniversary box set is really only a snapshot, when compared to the entire canon of extraordinary artists we have worked with. The tracks included are a mix of staff and fan favorites, commercial highlights and unsung rarities."

In the Summer of 1993 Astralwerks released its first album - Tales Of Ephidrina by Amorphous Androgynous - a pseudonym of the legendary Future Sound of London, and catalyst for the sub-genre known at the time as 'ambient techno'. A landmark series of compilations called Excursions in Ambience followed, as did Big Beat, Breaks and the early progenitors of tech-house, subsequently spawning classics by some of the most groundbreaking electronic artists of the era - Future Sound Of London, Photek, Spacetime Continuum, and ยต-Ziq, to name just a few. As the new millennium dawned, the label added luminaries such as The Beta Band, Beth Orton, doves, Hot Chip, Kings of Convenience, Phoenix and Placebo to its roster, as well as releasing Tour De France, the first new album in 12 years from legendary electronic pioneers Kraftwerk, as well as re-issuing their fabled catalogue.

This box set celebrates many important milestones for the label: Fatboy Slim's You've Come A Long Way Baby was the first DJ album to go platinum in the USA. The Chemical Brothers' "Block Rockin' Beats" was the first track by an electronic artist to win a Grammy ® and crack the Alternative Top 40 Chart.  Astralwerks continued to break new ground by establishing David Guetta as a major mainstream artist in America selling over 11 million singles from the smash album Nothing But The Beat.   The label continues to break uncharted territory as evidenced by its partnership with Swedish House Mafia who became the first-ever DJ artists to sell out Madison Square Garden (in an incredible 10 minutes).

So here we are, 20 years on, and Astralwerks has successfully launched the U.S. careers of many new artists - including Gold Fields, Diamond Rings, Empire of the Sun, NERVO, Eric Prydz, and Swedish House Mafia. As a label, it continues to look to the future, not only within the resurgence of electronic dance music but amidst a continually morphing array of musical genres and artists who continue to break new ground.
