Amanda Palmer Crowd-funding Breaks $1 Million, NEW MP3 + NYC Party Tonight!

“Palmer is set to join Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails as the artists that people tend to mention when they talk about the new music business.”
– Billboard

“I’d actually love to live in a world where Britney Spears could say: ‘I want to do a pop tour with 50 dancers and elephants, but instead of going to a corporation to fund it, I’m going to ask you, the fans.’ It’d be beautiful… “
– Amanda Palmer, NME

Singer, songwriter, piano-slayer & super-blogger Amanda Palmer re-solidified her title as the queen of crowd-sourcing this week when she hit over $1 million on her Kickstarter. As a thank you to her community of loyal supporters, she will host a very FREE, ALL-AGES special event in Brooklyn tonight counting down the final hours of the 30-day Kickstarter campaign with those who have helped to launch her ambitious global release! Kicking off on a closed-down-street in Gowanus at 6pm, it will be open to the public and will count down to a celebratory performance-art-endurance countdown featuring Amanda and her band, The Grand Theft Orchestra. High-level kickstarter backers will then be treated to a special post-midnight performance in a nearby loft. The event will take place at 55 9th St. (btw Smith St & 2nd Ave) in Brooklyn. Those who are not able to make it to the street party in person can stream the entire event, including the live concert, at Party go-ers should keep an eye on that link for any last minute updates & details. Check For a taste of what you may hear live, download the album track “Want It Back” MP3 HERE or where it premiered withSPIN. Feel free to post & share.

Theater Is Evil is a diverse collection of tracks that feature Palmer’s powerful voice and thoughtful lyrics backed by a full spectrum of sound compositions. “Do It With A Rockstar” kicks it into full-force with a swirl of dissonant melodies and irregular rhythms before hitting home with a powerful, anthem-like chorus. “Massachusetts Avenue” dances with an undeniably playful tone and features a rush of bright, mighty horns. “Grown Man Cry” is full of dark undertones, each note reverberating and echoing before fading into the next. “The Bed Song” is a reflective piano ballad that showcases a more vulnerable side of Palmer as she recounts a lover’s intimate story, her dynamic voice transitioning seamlessly from wistful to commanding and back again.

Her first new studio album in four years, Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestrawill release Theater Is Evil this September. The band, which includes Michael McQuilken, Chad Raines and Jherek Bischoff, will embark on a six city summer tour unveiling the new album, which was recently recorded in Melbourne was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Modest Mouse). The tour will feature a series of intimate performances alongside a dynamic visual art exhibit featuring 30 contemporary artists to include Frances Bean Cobain, Shepard Fairey, DJ Spooky, Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses), David Mack and Cynthia Von Buhler. Be sure to catch the band live and say tuned for more from Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra!

Dana Buoy premieres music video for "Call to Be"

Dana Buoy
Akron/Family percussionist turned solo-artist Dana Buoy premieres his new music video for "Call to Be" from his debut LP Summer Bodies, out now on Lefse Records. Shot in Los Angeles, the video serves as a cautionary tale of love found and love lost.

Video Credits:

Directed and Edited by Sam Molleur
Featuring Dana Buoy, Jamie Boyda
Director of photography - Pete Gill

Dana Buoy's debut album, Summer Bodies, is a rhythmic and vibrant dedication to the joyous feelings of summer love.

What started as hopeful love notes left on an answering machine in Oregon were later crafted into an album in a bungalow near a jungle lagoon in Thailand. Armed with nothing more than a laptop, an MPC1000, and the enchantment of the paradise found there, the songs began to take shape, mimicking the tropic forms that surrounded them.

The record was completed months later in Brooklyn and was fleshed out almost solely by Buoy with live drumming, guitar, thumb piano, and samples built from omnichords, analog synthesizers and iPad apps. During the recording, Buoy (real name: Dana Janssen) and his engineer weathered an earthquake, followed by Hurricane Irene - neglecting to evacuate and maintaining days of isolation brought on by the tropical storm.
The result is Summer Bodies, the culmination of over a year of songwriting and traveling. A dream pop record combining elements of Afro beats, synth pop, and what Buoy refers to as "Tropicore". The songs connect the dots between Paul Simon and Drake, providing a sonic spaceship ride from the beach party to the after party.
Dana Buoy has spent the better part of the last decade as the percussionist for Akron/Family. Summer Bodies is due out via Lefse Records in May 2012.

Laetitia Sadier Shares New Track Off Silencio: "Find Me The Pulse Of The Universe"

Silencio art

Laetitia Sadier will be releasing her sophomore solo albumSilencio, on July 24th on Drag CityThe Trip, Laetitia's first true solo album since exiting the bedrooms of Monade and Stereolab, breathed freshly and deeply as both a personal homage to life's journey and as a grieving process for the separations that are unavoidable within it. Born from a similar, natural need for stillness, withSilencio, Laetitia explores the individual connection to a deeper self, placed in a broader environment; she explores ideas of resisting the rules of the system, all the while doing so in a similarly fresh and distinctly Laetitia-like sort of way.

Earlier today, KCRW's "Today's Top Tune" gave listeners the first peek of whatSilencio has to offer with album track, "Find Me The Pulse of the Universe." It's a song about recognizing the world of possibilities (as one can with mathematics,) and thinking in an open-ended, creative way to solve some of the confusion surrounding us. "Find Me The Pulse of the Universe" shows the singularity of Laetitia - her calm and direct voice, the one that reaches you and wraps you up each time you hear it, sharing her confident and honest ideas.

Ring Dog Rescue and Slave Pit Inc are proud to present the sickest slaughter-fest of summer, set for Sat. Aug. 18th at Hadad's Lake in Richmond, Va. 1140 Mill Rd RVA 23231

After months of paperwork, hoop-jumping, and making the appropriate sacrifices, today Slave Pit is pleased to announce that the GWAR-B-Q is 100% completely legal and confirmed, and set for Aug, 18th at Hadad's Lake, the location we had planned on using last year. As you may recall, last year's GWAR-B-Q was switched from Hadad's to the National Theater because of problems getting the correct permits. Even though the event was still completely awesome most people seemed to agree that generally speaking, GWAR-B-Q's should be held outdoors.

"All the proper arrangements have been made in triplicate and the proper demonic sponsorships attained," said GWAR spokes-thing Oderus Urungus. "It's going to be a stinking hot, beer and beef-smeared metallic murderfest of unprecedented debauchery...the most splat-tac-cularGWAR-B-Q!

This marks the third consecutive year for the growing festival, and like last year GWAR will headline the event. As Best Friends Day, the hugely popular Richmond music fest, is taking this summer off, the GWAR-B-Q is set to be the hugest heavy music event of the Richmond summer scene. Bands will be spread across two stages and feature such acts as The Casualties, GHOUL, Valient Thorr, Occultist, Lionize, Highness, Antietam 1862, MUTWAWA, and Black Naked Wings. There will also be Spew-O-Lympics, numerous food vendors, endless streams of golden nectar, pools to cool your fevered sun-burn, and much much more, including the return of the Sexecutioner to the GWAR stage for the first time in twelve years. Sexy has completed a lengthy sabbatical beneath the catacombs of Paris with his good friend, Prince Ray Pierre, better known as "Frenchy", the demon of France. His return to the rock stage provides the promise of attaining unprecedented levels of naughtiness.

Added Oderus, "I can't tell you how ecstatic I am to once again be engaging in acts of necro-bestial delight with my old buddy, The Sexecutioner. Well actually, I can. I am ecstatic I am to once again be engaging in acts of necro-bestial delight with my old buddy, The Sexecutioner."

Some of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit Richmond's Ring Dog Rescue

More info on the GWAR-B-Q will be released in the coming weeks.

In other GWAR news, not ones to rest on their laurels, your mutant overlords will be playing a few special shows this summer in addition to the GWAR-B-Q. This includes a performance at The Zombie Prom in New York City, two headlining shows and an appearance at the D-Tox Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec.

6/9: New York, NY @ Irving Plaza (Zombie Prom)
6/15: Providence, RI @ Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel
6/16: Montebello, QC @ Montebello Marina (D-TOX Rockfest)
6/17: London, ON @ London Concert Theater

8/18: Richmond, VA @ Hadad's Lake - GWAR-B-Q

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros Unveil Video For "Man On Fire"

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros premiered the video for "Man On Fire," the first single from their latest album, Here, which was released this week on Community Music.  The clip is the first music video directed by actor Brady Corbet (Melancholia, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Thirteen), and it stars the New York City Ballet, NY Cheer Allstars, National Double Dutch League, and Soul Steps & Brooklyn Divas, as well as choreographers, coaches, and relatives of the various performers.  Corbet shot "Man of Fire" on location in New York from May 12th through 14th.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros formed in Los Angeles in 2007.  They released their debut album, Up From Below, in July 2009 on Community Music.  The album has sold over 275,000 copies in the US, and charted on iTunes for 69 straight weeks.  With its unique and universal appeal, their hit single "Home" soared to over 775,000 downloads.  After intensive touring throughout 2009-2011, including hit appearances at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Coachella, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros have proven themselves to be a touring force to be reckoned with. In March 2011, the troupe's lead singer Alex Ebert released his solo debut album, Alexander, on Community Music, which was written and recorded during breaks from being on tour as a part of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. The album includes ten brand new songs that Alexander wrote and played entirely himself. In April 2011, the band embarked on the "Railroad Revival Tour" with Mumford & Sons and Old Crow Medicine Show where the band traveled exclusively in vintage railcars across the American Southwest for a week and played concerts at unique outdoor locations along the route.  Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros actively support Water Wells For Africa, Charity Water, APJ Now, Hope Campaign andVoice Project.

The Cult's 'Choice of Weapon' Makes Strong Chart Debut

The Cult's Choice of Weapon (Cooking Vinyl) has come out of the gate strong, debuting on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart at #34.  The album made other impressive Billboard chart numbers as well - #3 on the Hard Rock chart, #15 on the Rock chart, and #7 on the Indie Albums chart.  Choice of Weapon made impressive entries on the UK charts (#20) as well as the Canadian national charts (#15).  The album was written by vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, and produced by Bob Rock and Chris Goss.

The Cult CD coverNew Cult PR photo

In addition, Choice of Weapon has been heartily championed by the press, the consensus being that it is The Cult's best album in years.  The UK's Mojo gave it a Five Star review, Entertainment Weekly tagged it with an A-, Magnet said it was "as epic and compelling as nearly anything in The Cult's '80s back catalogue," The UK's Q magazine called it "brilliant," the Phoenix New Times wrote "everything clicks," and MSN stated simply that it was "their best album in 20 years."

Beyond the accolades, Choice of Weapon is being recognized for its message of survival in our ever-changing society.  In its review, Classic Rock talked about the album being "a reflective, powerful and dark work drenched in the band's signature blend of mystical poetry and melodic, dense guitars," while the UK's Louder Than War went straight to the heart of the matter:  "A ballsy f*ck-you record for ballsy f*ck-you times."

As one rock critic put it, "'Choice of Weapon' is a citadel of rock refinement for a fragile period in music appreciation that has all but forgotten what a monster rock album sounds like.  'Love' begets "Electric' begets a latter-day rare diamond cut from artists who care more about the edges and grooves than the luster."

The Cult is supporting Choice of Weapon with a global tour which kicked off May 25 with a 22-date trek in the U.S.- Against Me! and The Icarus Line support.  Remaining dates are below.ates are below.

“EDH is a radical artist who makes no compromises...” – Soon Magazine

Paris-based musician Emmanuelle De Héricourt, also known as the artist EDH will release her latest album Yaviz on June 12th via the French label Lentonia Records, distributed in America by Nail Distribution.

De Héricourt’s music is demanding and scholarly, synthetic and human, mechanic and sensual and all the while it is still accessible and catchy.  Check out the evidence on “Ice”, the first single from Yaviz streaming now.

Writer David McKenna of The recently noted that the previous EDH album The Correct Use Of Pets (a collaboration with French artist Hypo) “has probably been one of my most replayed albums of the last decade.”

McKenna went on to say that “Its bricolage pop was undoubtedly post-modern but not merely as a smirking anti-statement; assembled from uncanny samples and analogue keyboards, it is re-imagined 80’s new wave electronic pop, lounge music and all manner of dance music styles.”

Yaviz will be released on June 12th to be followed by several EDH performances in North America with other Lentonia Records artists including Video Love and Phoebe Jean and The Air Force. See below for dates.

The vinyl edition of Yaviz will be accompanied by a CD of remixes by SubtitleUNISONStereovoidNicolas JorioElmapiRicky HollywoodHypo and more.

Dan Deacon announces new album, America, out on Domino August 28th (North America)/August 27th (Rest of the world) Listen to and download 'Lots' now

MP3: "Lots" -

Domino is proud to announce the release of Dan Deacon's new album, America, out August 28th (North America) / August 27th (Rest of the world).

America is Dan Deacon's most powerful work to date, the culmination of years spent playing both DIY venues and concert halls across the world, of exercises in the power of the individual and a coordinated mass, of a disenfranchised mind questioning notions of cultural identity and values.

The ecstatic, celebratory sounds found on America, are in compelling contrast with the darker thematic undercurrents.  The album demonstrates anger, confusion, and apocalyptic anxiety over corporatism and war, but finds consolation in the geography of the United States and in recent social movements both domestic and international.

There's a subtler approach to timbre on America, informed by Deacon's recent experiences in the classical world - commissions and collaborations, his Carnegie Hall debut; his first film score (for a Francis Ford Coppola film). The integration of acoustic textures - including concert percussion, winds, brass, and strings -- has ramped up exponentially since Deacon first ventured outside of purely synthesized sound on 2009's Bromst.

The most raw cut from the album, "Lots," seems a fitting introduction to a collection of songs that sit at the intersection of noise, pop, dance and chamber music. Filled with the struggle and opportunity rampant in Deacon's America, "Lots" lyrics bounce between a post-apocalyptic world influenced by Cormac McCathy's The Road and a call not to lose sight of the current movements that aim to change a broken system.

RISING: Irish Tour And European Festival Run Kicks Off Next Week LP Streaming In Its Entirety

Danish sludge metallers RISING are preparing for a tour across Ireland and Northern Ireland, on their way to tackle festivals in Denmark and Sweden later this month.

Set to embark on June 6th, RISING will storm four Irish cities before their performances at Copenhell Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark with the likes of Slayer, Mastodon, Anthrax, Immortal, Meshuggah and tons more, followed immediately by Hultsfred Festival in Hultsfred, Sweden with an eclectic lineup including The Cure, The Stone Roses, The XX, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators and countless others.

The crushing trio will present material from their acclaimed To Solemn Ash LP, released via Exile on Mainstream in Europe in late 2011 and on North American soil in January of this year. Recorded with producer Jakob Reichert Nielsen (Lack, Trust, Obstacles, etc.), the ten-track beast To Solemn Ash is fueled by a rigorous energy, replete with monstrous, hook-laden riffs, savage vocals and organic analog tones. RISING present their infectious sounds with an urgency and originality that warrants repeated listens and most definitely needs to be witnessed live!

STRONG INTENTION: Exclusive Track Premiere Hosted By Decibel Magazine

Today Decibel Magazine unveils the sadistic sounds of “3rd Space Guerrilla Generator,” from Maryland powerviolence miscreants STRONG INTENTION. The track comes off the band’s soon-to-be-unleashedRazorblade Express EP and features guest vocals by Eyehategod vocalist/wordsmith Mike Williams.

Comments STRONG INTENTION’s founding frontman Zac Ohler of the tune: “The song was written as a quick blast of venom directed towards the ongoing concrete sprawl and urban development around the town I was living in. While the interior of the city and its neighborhoods fell into ruin, crime and squalor, the businessmen were riding the wave of the housing and commercial building boom at the beginning of the decade with no sense of intelligent city planning, destroying miles and miles of green space around the city I once knew.”

Witness “3rd Space Guerrilla Generator” HERE.

Razorblade Express will be released via PATAC Records on June 1, 2012 with the first pressing limited to just 500 copies. This isn’t one to sleep on! In addition, Razorblade Express features bass work by Cattle Decapitation’s Derek Engemann. Commends in a recent review of the EP: “STRONG INTENTION’s major strength is the variety of speeds on most tracks as they tend to vary back and forth and unfurl a major bit of chaos on the listener. It is with these attributes that the listener is constantly hit with something new, whether it be slow blues laden sludge or over the top hardcore.”

In related news, STRONG INTENTION will bring their sonic menace to the stage. The live takeover will begin with a warm-up show opening for Marduk and 1349 on June 2 in Baltimore. From there the band will join fellow grind heathens Phobia for the East Coast Filth Tour 2012 set to commence June 3 in Detroit.

STRONG INTENTION will be joined by Misery Index/Pig Destroyer drummer Adam Jarvis for the short run of shows.

Vote Now to See COCAINE MOUSTACHE Perform at 99.3 The Fox's SEEDS 2012 in Vancouver, BC

Description: on car oct 8th final

Vancouver, BC’s COCAINE MOUSTACHE is in the running to perform at this year’s SEEDS 2012 Festival in conjunction with 99.3 The Fox in Vancouver, BC. In order for the band to be chosen to perform, fans must vote heavily at Vote now before it’s too late!

COCAINE MOUSTACHE released their debut album, On The Mirror, in January. The album is currently available for purchase through iTunes or CD Baby! You can also buy the album at

Conceived in 2009 when an ongoing party turned into a band, COCAINE MOUSTACHE created "Good Time" songs, influenced by soul, rock, blues, and funk with a hard edge.COCAINE MOUSTACHE joined forces in 2010 with Reversed Records and Producer/Juno Award winning engineer Rob Shallcross, who has captured these epic sessions. The result is this nine track sonic cocktail of booze-fueled anthems that will be one of most dangerous sounding rock records to come out since the '80's. Starting with a sell-out crowd at their first show,COCAINE MOUSTACHE quickly made a name for themselves. This uncontrollable party has helped them to land opening slots for Nashville Pussy3 Inches Of Blood, and The Dayglo Abortions.

White Willie Sniffsum (Vocals)
Vinnie Railtrail (Bass)
Bill ''Hundred Dollar'' Rollins (Guitar)
Dr. Cleanplate (Drums)

"While most Statesiders probably recognize Kimbra from her poignant guest vocals on Gotye's massive cut "Somebody That I Used to Know," this record reinforces the accolades and proves that she's genuinely got it in her own right." - Filter

“…the unquestioned superstars of children’s music…”
- Time Out New York

The career of Brooklyn’s beloved They Might Be Giants has been a series of unexpected turns, but the release of their first family album No! in 2002 might have been the most celebrated turn of all. Not only did it set in motion what would become hugely successful second career for the band, the band would become role models for other acts, ushering in a new creative era in kid’s music.

To celebrate the album’s 10 year anniversary, Idlewild Recordings is creating a special re-issue of the album with seven bonus tracks. New tracks include a new studio version of Alphabet of Nations and a mind-bending live version of Robot Parade. Check out theMP3 for “Clap Your Hands” where it premiered with AV Club or HERE.

Following the critical and audience raves for No!, They Might Be Giants joined forces with Disney Sound for their “Here Comes” CD and DVD series. 2005’s Here Come The ABCs was named “the year's best children's album” by, while the accompanying DVD was certified gold. Both sequels received GRAMMY nominations, with 2008’s Here Come The 123s earning the band their second GRAMMY award, for “Best Children’s Album.” With four home-run kid’s releases under their belt, They Might Be Giants special, and inevitably sold out, family shows have become extraordinary happenings; truly redefining the all-ages rock show at the most unlikely venues including The Museum of Natural History, the Hall of Science, The Kennedy Center and Royce Hall.

DYING FETUS Inducted Into Decibel Magazine's Hall of Fame

New Album Reign Supreme Available June 19th

Reign Supreme sees DYING FETUS take the throne as one of the most dominant forces in death metal.
-The New Review

With only weeks left before the release of their highly anticipated new album Reign Supreme,DYING FETUS have received the honor of being inducted into Decibel Magazine's "Hall of Fame" for their classic album Destroy the Opposition, which was released in 2000 on Relapse Records. The issue with this special retrospective will be on newsstands at the end of the week.

Reign Supreme features nine tracks and is a "return to roots" with production focused slightly more on slam than in the band's last few works.  Thematically, the album is set to be a good old-fashioned piece of social and political commentary in the style of DYING FETUS as we have come to know.

The band recently completed work on a video for the song "Second Skin". The video was directed by Jakob Arevarn, who has also shot videos for Draconian, Vildhjarta and Carnal Forge. Look for the video to be premiered in the coming weeks.

DYING FETUS will be on tour all summer long starting with the "18 Nights of Blood Tour" in North America with label mates REVOCATION and Six Feet Under. They will also be on a headlining European tour which includes appearances at the "Copenhell Festival" in Copenhagen, Denmark, "Hell Fest" in Clisson, France, the "With Full Force" festival in Roitzschjora, Germany, "Sevilla Rock Festival" in Sevilla, Spain and the "Getaway Rock Fest" in Gävle, Sweden.
