 692 retouched
As JANE’S ADDICTION gear up for their much-anticipated "Theatre of the Escapists" tour launching February 22 in classic theatres, they will premiere their new video for “Underground” todayJanuary 25, on VEVO.com at 9:00 AM PST  (http://vevo.ly/xBHpbv).  The song, which is the opener of their acclaimed album THE GREAT ESCAPE ARTIST (Capitol Records), takes on an alluringly dark dimension in the video, for which the band joined forces with esteemed director Robert Hales.  An explicit version of the video will debut at Playboy.com this Friday, January 27 at 10:00 AM EST.

Shot in Los Angeles at the club Fais Do-Do, originally a speakeasy from the 1920's with a New Orleans ambience, the video shows frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins, along with Chris Chaney on bass performing while a cast of vaudevillian characters lurk around the dark, smoky setting.

As Farrell described the video to AOL’s Spinner:  "There are Siamese Gargoyles, séances, card games and a man in a white fedora who was also on the cover of In Through the Out Door (a Led Zeppelin album).  People get made love to and murdered in the backrooms while the band plays on.” Director Robert Hales (Nine Inch Nails) said he set out to create “a video that really immerses itself in what the band is all about–that off-kilter vibe, kinky imagery, and ‘lust for life’ spirit that’s embedded in their music.”

The now-buzzing-at-radio track “Underground” surges and soars, with Farrell singing the provocative lines “I try and get some love from up high/There just ain't enough to go around” as the band lifts the song into the stratosphere. As Jim Fusilli wrote about the album and “Underground” in the Wall Street Journal: “Dave Navarro issues several searing guitar solos, but some of his best work is in his flat-picking, giving the sound its high, glittery tones. In the opening track, "Underground," he excels with terse fills long before he solos at the song's fade. As always, Stephen Perkins proves to be one of rock's great drummers, and his interplay with Mr. Navarro, his high-school marching-band buddy, is one of the disc's savory treats” (October 11, 2011).

Meanwhile, JANE'S ADDICTION’s upcoming North American tour of classic theatres has instantly become a hot ticket, with several shows already sold out in anticipation of a chance to see the pioneering alternative rockers in intimate venues. JANE'S ADDICTION are poised to deliver an “immersive” theatrical experience as only they can. “We chose to play as many of the great theatres that we could find because we wanted to immerse the audience in a unique experience unlike any they have ever seen at a rock show,” says FARRELL.   “Expect an orgy of musical and visual delights.  We like orgies, and hope you do too.”

About Weatherbox's "Follow The Rattle of the Afghan Guitar"

It would be reasonable if you thought Weatherbox imploded some time ago. After all, the San Diego band has cycled through more than a dozen members in its half-decade existence and has kept a relatively low profile since the release of their last LP, 2009's The Cosmic Drama, and subsequent departure from Doghouse Records.

Frontman Brian Warren has since scaled that mountain and regrouped with a supporting cast that includes longtime friends (including two vintage Weatherbox members) and a new label, Youth Conspiracy Records. Together they will release Follow The Rattle of the Afghan Guitar, a six-song EP that brings you to the entrance of a tunnel, hands you a few matches, and shoves you into the dark.

Recorded this spring in multiple locations in California, Follow The Rattle of the Afghan Guitar finds Warren & Co. returning to the colossal pop-rock that made 2007's American Art so likable, while keeping the frontman's expanded lyrical ideas from the psych-folky Cosmic Drama intact.

Exploring themes of alienation, white privilege and the general insanity of our times, Follow The Rattle Of The Afghan Guitar is esoteric, challenging and thought-provoking, while still remaining hook-driven, innovative and exciting. The band hurls itself from a neutral space between pop and progressive, between vague and specific, ultimately leaving it up to the listeners to figure it out for themselves.

Weatherbox howls from the cave in some alien tongue, but the message is loud and clear.

Opeth + Mastodon to Embark on "Heritage Hunter" Tour

New York, NY: This is one tour that rock fans will be talking about for years to come and if you miss it, you'll be terribly sorry. Opeth and Mastodon will be embarking on a co-headline tour this spring, which kicks off April 4 in Portland, Maine and runs through May 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. It's the first time these two titans of progressive and forward-thinking hard rock have hit the road together and it's going to be one for the ages. Ghost will serve as the opener of the tour, which has been christened the "Heritage Hunter."

About the tour, Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, in his trademark deadpan wit, stated, "We're touring North America together with Mastodon soon. Nice! One of the very few metal bands of today that I genuinely like. Good people too!  Ghost are coming with us as well, and they are one of the hottest new bands to come out of Sweden in recent years, and I dig them too. I sound like an old fart, don't I? Well, I am.”

He continued, "Yet, am I right in thinking that this tour, this line up, is pretty decent? Would you all agree? Not complete s---, is it? Hope to see y'all out there! What are we playing? Not sure yet, but considering the company, maybe we'll have to pull out the big guns from time to time. In order to keep up, I mean."

Opeth released Heritage in September 2011, garnering critical acclaim from Rolling Stone ("a career record that reimagines prog as actual rock 'n' roll"), Pitchfork ("a pretty, well thought out collection"), AV Club ("wholly absorbing"), Decibel (which featured the band on the cover, in somewhat of a tradition for the band and the magazine), PopMatters ("Opeth still continues to make especially phenomenal music") and more.

Dates for this momentous trek are as follows. Pre-sale ticketing begins on February 1, with public on sales to follow on February 3.  Go here to purchase tickets.

Garbage has announced that their fifth studio album, Not Your Kind Of People, will be released in the United States on May 15, 2012, on the band's label STUNVOLUME.  As V Magazine recently put it:  "The poster girl for '90s alternative rock is ready to reclaim her reign - and the radio - with a new record from her iconic band, Garbage."

"Working with Garbage again was very instinctual," said Duke Erikson.  "Like getting on a bicycle...with three other people."   He adds "We haven't felt this good about a Garbage record since the last one!"

Garbage - Shirley Manson (vocals), Steve Marker (guitars, keyboards), Duke Erikson (guitars, keyboards) and Butch Vig (drums, loops) - will hit the road this spring in support of the album by performing several headlining shows as well as various festivals throughout Europe and the U.S. with more dates to be confirmed.

"Thinking about going back on the road is both thrilling and terrifying in equal measure," said Shirley Manson. ".........but we've always enjoyed a little pain mixed in with our pleasure."

Neverever premieres "Mexicoco," announces shows

Who can decipher the true origins of Neverever? Some say it started on the roadside in Malibu when a truck driver named Eric Fisher and his childhood buddy, Shaun Puklavetz, picked up Joe Meek's great niece and nephew, Jihae and Wallace. Others believe that it began a year earlier when Neverever's lost classic Angelic Swells was released on legendary pop mogul, Mike Schulman's, Slumberland Records.

Whichever you choose to put faith in, it was after consulting their book of Sacred Symbols of the Ancients, that Wallace and Jihae realized Eric and Shaun's rhythmical bond was most likely destined to be the missing piece of their puzzle. A mutual appreciation for Dave Hill (he of Slade fame)'s haircut soon sealed the deal one night after practice in Shaun's hot-tub.

The four began hallucinating endlessly about writing songs that could fill the void between one's love for Sandy Salisbury's "Do Unto Others" and the other's for Comet Gain's Casino Classics. These visions began to slowly creep across Los Angeles stages like a purple smoke bomb engulfing. Shortly thereafter, crowds caught on and gaggles of girls and boys began flocking to their shows in fear that the flames which burned would someday descend back into technicolor smoke.

Shake-A-Baby is that technicolor smoke turned to solid vinyl. The band says it best: "The EP is loosely about the likes of child brides and sugar empire heirs either reluctantly growing up or simply choosing not to. Clinging to pre-teen and adolescent freedoms, Miss Teen Californian girlfriends, carefree trips, and dream-like loves, whether the changing world around them allows it or not. Some influences include the Raspberries, Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour, ELO, Kim Fowley, Fleetwood Mac, Big Star, Alvin Stardust, Sandy Salisbury."

From the couples' dance swoon of "Baby Oil And Iodine" to the latin-tinged glam-pop of "Mexicoco," we see the newly revitalized Neverever cooking up a heady mix of classic power-pop styles. "Bunker Spreckles" is a swinging little tune, featuring a typically catchy vocal melody from Jihae and a stick-in-your-head keyboard line. "Venus" slows the tempo down for a twangy slice of doo-wop pop, while "Wedding Day"  is a rambunctious power-pop gem that would slot in nicely on either of the first few Blondie albums.

Cut from the same classicist pop cloth at their debut album, on Shake-A-Baby Neverever sharpen their tunes, hone their hooks and brighten their palette.

Beard, Wives, Denim will be out on Modular Recordings March 2nd (AUS), March 5th (UK/EU), and March 6th (USA).

Mixed by Kevin Parker (Tame Impala) and Rob Grant at Poon's Head Studio in Perth, Beard, Wives, Denim is an audio diary of ten friends' strange, terrible and blissful time in the country trying in vain to be a wholesome family band. It sounds just like it, distorted and woozy and fractured and ultimately nostalgic and loving, and coming to your closest hip record vendor in 2012.

THE INTERSPHERE Enters German Media Control Charts!

The Intersphere's compositions are multilayered and throbbing without losing themselves in museo noodling, and intensity is the name of the game.
(Pure Grain Audio)

The Intersphere ... have a natural charisma which makes it easy to see why so many do and will love them in years to come.

Germany's THE INTERSPHERE have entered the German Media Control Charts at number 63 for their new release Hold On, Liberty. This is a special occasion for both THE INTERSPHERE and Long Branch Records as this is the first German chart entry for both the band and the label.

THE INTERSPHERE will release their long awaited album in North America on Februrary 28th via Long Branch Records/SPV. An EPK for Hold On, Liberty can be viewed HERE. The band has also released a video for their first single "Sleeping God" which can be viewed HEREcourtesy of Metal Injection.

On Hold on, Liberty the band has developed their style between boundless energy, rigorously complex songwriting and melodic esthetics. And almost irreverently, they succeed in giving their catchy melodies and rousing songs true depth and complexity.  On top of all this, they capped their perfectionist tendencies by recording the entire album - in seven days - completely live in the studio.  No corrections and no fixed edges - making this a subtly warm and engaging listen for realists as well as dreamers alike.

Early champions of the album, SPIN Magazine, described the album as, "A dozen deliriously catchy gems... the sound of high fives and Makers Mark spilling from the speakers." Celabrasion was produced by Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, The Whigs) and reflects the easy camaraderie in the band.

In December, the band premiered a new song, "Not Never," produced by Courtney Taylor of The Dandy Warhols in the latest installment of Nike Sportswear's video series, ALWAYS ON, featuring WNBA star Lindsey Harding. The Chemical Brothers: "Don't Think" 2/1 ONE-NIGHT ONLY in-theater concert event

"'Don't Think' jolts you from the cinema deep into the violently psychedelic heart of a Japanese rave. This, like the Chemical Brothers' best work, is a neckbracing tour de force to behold. Scary, sublime, trippy, exhilarating. Don't think, just swoon." Rolling Stone

"A feast for the mind"  IFC

“..One of the best films about dance music ever made.”   The Guardian

“An astonishing, celluloid rush of blood to the head.”  The Sunday Telegraph

Last night the global premiere of The Chemical Brothers; Don’t Thinkdirected by Adam Smith, took place in 25 cities across the globe. The verdict from the 4000 dedicated fans lucky enough to have secured a ticket was unanimous: It was a one of a kind movie theatre experience clearly not to be missed! The premiere in London saw exuberant fans, including Keira Knightley as well as The Chemical Brothers and Adam Smith, dancing* in the aisles and applauding along with the Fuji crowd, a reaction mirrored in cities across the world from Auckland, New York to Buenos Aires.

Don’t Think has clearly redefined the cinematic experience, an art form which The Chemical Brothers are evidently immersed and well-versed in, as only two weeks ago, Tom Rowlands picked up the L.A film critics awards for best score for The Chemical Brothers work on Hanna.

For those that weren’t successful in securing a ticket to these sell out premieres, The Chemical Brothers will bring their in-theatre concert event, The Chemical Brothers: Don’t Think to more than 200 select movie theatres across the U.S. FOR ONLY ONE NIGHT on Wednesday February 1, 2012. Tickets for this critically lauded and utterly jaw dropping event are available at participating theatre box offices and online at:

ORANGE GOBLIN: Behind-The-Scenes Footage Of The “Red Tide Rising” Video Brought To You By Noisecreep

Today Noisecreep premieres behind-the-scenes footage of ORNAGE GOBLIN’s “Red Tide Rising” video, the opening track off the band’s forthcoming A Eulogy For The Damned full-length, set for North American release on February 14, 2012. The video clip is loosely based on H.P. Lovecraft stories and was shot in a series of dilapidated buildings around the UK.

Elaborated vocalist Ben Ward of the video: “We made the terrible decision to make the video for ‘Red Tide Rising’ the day after the London Christmas show so it meant we all had to be up bright and early, with very severe hangovers and head down to the New Forest. Luckily it was a bright, sunny day so everyone was in good spirits and the production crew went to work setting up at the location, which was some sort of abandoned army barracks in the middle of nowhere! It could have doubled as the location for Hostel 4! In the meantime, the band was dragged halfway across Dorset to do a photo shoot whilst being attacked by rampaging horses! When we returned, thankful to be alive, we were ready to go and the recording process was very pleasant and quite a lot of fun! We already knew that the footage of us would be mixed with some animation that we’d acquired the use of so we weren’t required to do anything too ambitious, just repeatedly go over the track imagining we were playing it to 100,000 people at Wembley stadium! Fuelled by tea and biscuits we got the job done and the results look great!”

Check out the making-of video at THIS LOCATION.
A Eulogy For The Damned is ORANGE GOBLIN’s seventh studio album and first for Candlelight Records. The ten-track offering was recorded at The Animal Farm studio in South London, UK, produced and engineered by Jamie Dodd and mastered by two-time Grammy-nominated Pink Floyd engineer Andy Jackson at Tube Mastering.

“Long-haired limeys, maximum riffage and turbo doom. Biker rock. From England. And it’s pretty awesome.” – Decibel

“Overall, their first record for Candlelight is pretty damn fantastic. Rockin’, riff-tastic and possibly the best record from start to finish that they’ve released yet.” – Popdose

“With a sound that splits the difference between Sabbath and Motörhead, ORANGE GOBLIN serves up a potent dose of '70s-style metal on A Eulogy For The Damned. Gloomy doom and punk power have seldom sounded so good together.” – Metal Underground

U.S. Tour With Social Distortion and Frank Turner

All Dates Below

January 27 - February 18

The band's Rise Records debut album, No Gods, will be released on March 20th

The UK band's Rise Records debut album, No Gods, will be released on March 20th. Produced by Brian McTernan (The Explosion, Hot Water Music, Cave In), No Gods swims between the rules and regulations of the iconoclastic chaos of punk rock and British indie music.  Over the course of eleven infectious anthems, Sharks sharpen timeless melodies with an explosive edge tempered by intricate riffing and hypnotic harmonies. It's pure.  It's poetic.  And it's powerful.

Born in 2007, Sharks is James Mattock (vocals), Andrew J. Bayliss (guitar), Sam Lister (drums), and Tony Corrales (bass).  They released their first independent EP, Shallow Waters, in 2008 and drummed up a serious buzz while playing with the likes of Gallows, The Wedding Present, and Babyshambles. Barely old enough to drive, the group garnered critical acclaim from tastemakers such as KERRANG!The Guardian, and NME for 2010's Show of Hands EP and incendiary performances supporting The Gaslight Anthem in the UK.  In April 2011, they released The Joys of Living 2008-2010, a 14 song collection of previously released tracks and two band new ones that garnered them instant acclaim.  Zane Lowe praised the collection as "the sound of a band reaching that moment when they are absolutely ready," while Kerrang called them "one of the best bands around."

Unlike many of their UK predecessors the band has toured extensively in the United States, often living in their van.  In the United States they have toured with Social Distortion and just this past year played the entire Vans Warped Tour and Fall Alternative Press Tour.  They are currently featured in the "Most Anticipated Music of 2012" issue of Alternative Press.  The magazine said their music "bristles with a wonderful sense of rock 'n' roll heritage that serves as a tribute to fallen heroes such as the Clash while simultaneously molding those influences into something refreshing and contemporary."

See them for yourself.
