The Pink Spiders Sweat It Out on 9/23 and Demand “Gimme Chemicals”

ACCLAIMED POWER-POP BAND THE PINK SPIDERS READY TO SWEAT IT OUT ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2008 WITH NEW INDEPENDENT RELEASE

Brendan O'Brien-Produced Full-Length to Be Led by Single "Gimme Chemicals"

The Pink Spiders, the Nashville-based power-pop band with the explosive sound and attitude to burn, is priming their fan base for a new fix later this year as they prepare the September 23 release of Sweat It Out. With heavyweight producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Bruce Springsteen) at the helm, Sweat It Out is the band's first album to be released on Pink Spiders frontman Matt Friction's own label Mean Buzz, via Adrenaline Music. Giving fans a taste of what's to come, the new album's first single and video "Gimme Chemicals" - which screams "summer party anthem" - will be hitting the airwaves shortly.

Sweat It Out follows the success of The Pink Spider's 2006 record, Teenage Graffiti, produced by ps photohit-maker and legendary frontman of The Cars, Ric Ocasek. That album spawned the single "Little Razorblade," which exploded on radio stations from coast to coast as well as on MTV's Total Request Live, and got the band named one of "100 Bands You Need to Know in 2006" by respected tastemaker Alternative Press. Now, having made the wise choice to move to the indie world as major labels continue to sway unsteadily on shaky ground, Matt Friction and his bandmates are poised to prove that the success of Teenage Graffiti was no fluke. They have persevered to make sure that their best work to date sees the light of day on the strength of their own efforts.

"My idea of success has always been to do things our way and on our own terms," says Pink Spiders frontman Matt Friction. "Being an independent band, in control of our own destiny, feels great."

The group has just wrapped up another stint (their second) on this summer's renowned Van's Warped Tour, which was followed by dates on their own headlining tour. Praise from fans and the press alike have ensured that the band's rocket-like career trajectory is headed for longevity, bolstered by the high anticipation for Sweat It Out this fall. Here's what some press outlets across the world have written about The Pink Spiders:

"..the Spiders are ready to spin a power-pop revolution." - Rolling Stone

"..a rock frolic with the proper balance of bubblegum catchiness, punk muscle and dance snap."
- USA Today

"..angst ridden, smart-assed, and slickly catchy..." - SPIN

"The Pink Spiders' rock and roll assault is under way. You've been warned." - MTV News

"..catchy blasts of bubblegum angst." - Blender

"..the ideal blend of sweetness and crunch." - Entertainment Weekly

"The Nashville-based power pop trio is weaving a web of gritty rock 'n' roll, catchy riffs and flashy looks..." - Billboard

"...mighty guitar riffs with hip-shaking tendencies, punchy sounds, soaring melodies, fast and clever lyrics, and attitude to boot." - Kerrang!

"The Pink Spiders put their money where their mouth is...impossibly catchy and dangerous enough to terrify suburban parents...a great pop album." - Alternative Press

"Practically every track on the disk [Teenage Graffiti], which brilliantly blends rock, soul, punk and pop, is a hook-heavy gem that begs for a sing-along." - Teen People

"Despite the flavors of old rock n' roll blended into their sound, the Pink Spiders manage to sound modern and new." - Punk Planet

"...this Nashville three-piece is here to remind jaded youth everywhere what rock and roll's really about: raunchy rhythms, booze-fueled antics, and pure, unadulterated fun." - Drum Magazine

"A great new band." - Maximum Rock n Roll

Fiasco- Brooklyn's own release Native Canadians on Impose Records, August tour starts Saturday at the Bodega

After selling out two pressings of their full length debut, God Loves Fiasco, on their own imprint Beautiful Records, Brooklyn power trio and DIY faves Fiasco release their rapid-fire gem Native Canadians on Impose Records

The New York Times
“Fiasco are "the kingpins of the Park Slope scene."

To start things off right, this Saturday, Fiasco will perform at The Bodega with MONOTONIX in conjunction with My Open Bar. Just three days after, the boys will kick off their string of August dates in Brooklyn again with a show at Market Hotel with their friends Ninjasonik, The Homosexuals and Pony Pants. For their first our, Fiasco will warm (tear up) stages with Deerhunter and The Apes...to name a few. From all ages shows to local house parties to parking lots, don't miss Fiasco.

Native Canadians will be in stores on Oct 14th

Press swoons!
Spin:
“incendiary guitar work, drum thrashing and perceptive lyrics... echo everyone from a hormone-drenched Sonic Youth to a youthful-sounding Slint. Standout "Nothing to Lose" trods on classic indie rock aesthetic a la Pavement... proving that punk rock and teenage boys go together like PB & J."

Insound:
"These three NYC teens are creating ferocious punk with completely tight time signatures that sounds well beyond their years. Sonic Youth meets Shellac meets Lightning Bolt meets awesome. They destroy live too!"

-Oh My Rockness ("Band We Like")
"Brooklyn's Fiasco rock the rapid-fire punk strums played at eighty-eighty miles per second... to create orchestrated chaos.... There are 'kid bands' and then there are bands who happen to be kids. Fiasco are the latter. This is no Menudo.... Make no mistake, this is punk rock."

-CMJ
"On the surface, Fiasco could easily be described as Brooklyn's answer to Be Your Own Pet; the high school aged punk trio blast out fun rock with a barrage of energy. However, where Be Your Own Pet have a knack for the in-your-face live performance that sometimes takes away from the music, Fiasco seem focused on some pretty complex guitar riffs and drumbeats while still putting forth all they can."

-CMJ (again)
"Pardon the New York City bias, but Brooklyn's Fiasco hit that buzz-worthy spot in my heart time and again. Though the band are (quite literally) just three kids from Brooklyn, their punk rock aesthetic and technical proficiency earn them praise well beyond their years."

-New York Magazine
"In 2005, Fiasco performed at a block party, playing fairly obscure early-eighties punk covers—Flipper, Minor Threat, Bad Brains—that were met with slack-jawed astonishment by several wizening hipsters in the crowd."

Previous praise for Loxsly:

Loxsly's Flashlights EP floats higher and lighter, abetted by pedal steel on opener "Lamprey Eels" and piano on "Chopper," showing the quintet's maturity since 2006's Maps and Organs LP.
- Austin Chronicle

Loxsly’s driving mid-tempo rock is tinged with a slightly more haunting charm reminiscent of My Morning Jacket and The Flaming Lips, remaining experimental only when called for.
- Flagpole Magazine

Each of the four catchy indie pop nuggets is a joy to listen to, and will have you tapping your toe and humming along in no time.

Thrill Jockey is pleased to officially announce the release of Sun On Sun

The second full-length from Virginia's Pontiak on September 9th. Following shortly on the heels of their limited 12" split with Arbouretum, "Kale" (a collection of new originals and John Cale covers), this collection of songs find the three brothers getting comfortable with their psych tinged southern rock roots. Having already shared the stage with Endless Boogie, Nadja, Grails, Psychic Paramount, Wye Oak and Wolf Eyes, keep an eye out for an extensive tour with label and sound brethren Arbouretum this fall!

"Pontiak straddle a wide sonic rift valley, with references that stretch from the southern latitudes of Spain's Viaje A800 to the northern majesty of Black Sabbath and Harvey Milk via the Doors." - Julian Cope

Pontiak is made up of three brothers from the Blue Ridge farm country of Virginia, Van (guitar, lead vocals), Lain (drums, vocals) and Jennings Carney (bass, organ, vocals). Their music is swaggering guitar rock that straddles the line between a power trio and something far more expansive in sound and scope. Their broad song structures allow ample room for three-part vocals, drums, organ and stellar slide and lead guitar to stretch and captivate. Songs roll along with an effortless synchronicity despite their extremely varied textures.

Sun On Sun, their second full-length album, was recorded in a log cabin just north of Charlottesville, Virginia in about four days. The thick wooden walls of the structure reflected a lot of sound that gave the recording a sharp biting quality. Each string pluck from Van's guitar can be heard soaring above the rich ethereal reverb that coats tracks like "White Mice" and "The Brush Burned Fast". The wilderness surrounding the cabin and the appreciation for it that the brothers share can be heard seeping into every track. From start to finish, Sun on Sun evokes the nature that surrounds the brothers from the rolling meadows, to the dense woods, from the early morning solitude of the rural farmer, to the open and endless night sky. The psychedelic organ flourishes of "Tell Me About" and the bass heavy churn of "Shell Skull" keep the album grounded in the rock tradition, never wandering too far from the epic and at times heavy trail that the brothers are blazing.

Pontiak's other releases include their debut album, Valley of Cats, on their own Fireproof Records and the soon to be released Kale (July 2008), a split LP with kindred spirits Arbouretum, built around a mutual admiration for John Cale. Pontiak delivers a potent cover of "The Endless Plain of Fortune" and a great new interpretation of "Mr. Wilson," along with two new originals. Kale was recorded at Pontiak's studio on their farm.

Pontiak toured in June with their friends Wye Oak (Merge) and have plans to tour this summer/ fall with Arbouretum in support of Kale and Sun On Sun.

TRACK LISTING:

01 Shell Skull
02 Swell

04 White Mice

PRETENDERS NEW ALBUM BREAK UP THE CONCRETE TO BE RELEASED THROUGH SHANGRI-LA MUSIC SEPTEMBER 23

LABEL TO TAKE UNPRECEDENTED INITIATIVE: ALBUM GIVE-AWAY TRACK BY TRACK, ONE NEW MP3 DOWNLOAD PER WEEK UP TO RELEASE;

11 MAJOR PARTNERS JOIN THE CAMPAIGN - AOL/SPINNER, APPLE QUICKTIME, CLEAR CHANNEL, CMT, ILIKE, IMEEM, MSN WINDOWS MEDIA, MP3.COM/DOWNLOAD.COM, VH1 CLASSIC, YAHOO, AND CBS

SANTA MONICA, CA - July 23, 2008 - Shangri-La Music is proud to announce the newest album by one of rock's seminal bands with the release of The Pretenders' Break Up The Concrete out September 23rd. The album, the ninth in the band's illustrious career and its first in 6 years, has band leader Chrissie Hynde collaborating with a new group of musicians. Recorded in 10 days the result is a stripped down roots album, pure and raw, which highlights Hynde's timeless vocal sound.

While the music for Break Up The Concrete may have its origins in rock's beginnings, the marketing of the album has Shangri-La Music boldly embracing the present and future. Starting today, the label is launching a massive MP3 Countdown campaign where each week a new song will be available for free download through a different media partner. This week's song, "Boots of Chinese Plastic," will be available through AOL's Spinner.com. In subsequent weeks downloads will be available through Apple QuickTime's site, ClearChannel.com, CMT.com, iLike, iMeem, MP3.com/Download.com, MSN Windows Media, Vh1 Classic, Yahoo and CBS Radio Online. Fans will be able to find where the next free MP3 will be available by going to www.thepretenders.com. Says Shangri-La's Jeff Ayeroff, "The oldest and most basic form of exposing music is through word of mouth and the newest way is through the internet. This campaign combines both word of mouth and the muscle of 11 major online media partners and will allow people to hear how truly great this album is. Anyone who hears any of the tracks on Break Up The Concrete is going to tell everybody about it."

Backing up Hynde on the album is a band that has no problems conjuring the true spirit of rock's earliest days. Classic leads by guitarist James Walbourne, the twang of pedal steel from Eric Heywood, and backed by a concrete foundation laid by the rhythm section of bassist Nick Wilkinson and legendary drummer Jim Keltner, this band allows Hynde to show off her best vocal work and songwriting since the early days of The Pretenders.

Akimbo Announce Details on New Album, "Jersey Shores," Out September 23rd on Neurot!

Combining the massive bottom-end of the mid-90's stoner rock movement (see: Kyuss, High On Fire) with the raw, unbridled force of the current crop of Louisville hardcore bands like Breather Resist and Lords, the quirky edge of classic DC post-punk, and bringing it together with a loose, bluesy attack reminiscent of early Zeppelin, Akimbo is a force to be reckoned with. - Scene Point Blank

A heavy and challenging record that never loses track of the punk rock aesthetic. - Delusions of Adequacy

spit and venom flies from the speakers when you listen to their whiplash combo of Sick of it All–style fury and obscenely heavy riffage inspired by three decades of thrash, stoner sludge, and classic Brit-metal. And that's nothing compared to Akimbo's legendary live show, where you might consider yourself lucky to escape with all limbs and internal organs intact. Forget about your hearing, though. - Seattle Weekly

I was wrong. I said things I shouldn’t have. I was presumptuous; I was hasty. I retract previous comments. None before and none after can be this good. - Punknews.org

The only band that has had to honor of the All Music Guide describing their years of touring shenanigans as having left a “path of destruction in its wake,” Akimbo are back with another hearty ass-kicking that will remain a paramount moment of their recording careers.

Inspired by an infamous and bizarre legacy left from a string of shark attacks which occurred in the Garden State some 92 years ago, Jersey Shores isn’t just metal, hardcore, punk rock, or whatever genre you can boil a band down to. Instead, it is a pure reminder as to why rock and roll was so hated and loathed in when it first arrived. Loud, commotions causing, rebellious, and defiant are just a few words that come to mind.

Recorded over a three week period at Headbanging Kill Your Mama Music in Louisville, KY with Chris Owens (Coliseum, Breather Resist) while the band subsided on a diet of ramen, frozen pizzas and, of course, beer, Jersey Shores isn’t the heavy/loud music that you would steal from the tape deck of your older brother's ’87 Ford Escort.

Not only is it an abrasive assortment of gliding guitar riffs on steroids with guttural growls but it's also a hideous hybrid of doom and noise core that takes no prisoners while its big hairy balls hang out. Make no mistake, history will see Jersey Shores as the moment where Akimbo joined the elder statesmen of all that is loud and untamable in music.

There can be no more suitable home for a band like Akimbo and a record like Jersey Shores than NR, a label representing all that is loud and untamable in music.

The XYZ Affair Release Trials EP

Stereogum Debuting First Single, "Evening Life," Via Thier 'Gum Drop Newsletter
On US Tour Now

This Digital Release Will Be Available Immediately For Purchase On theXYZaffair.com and

All Music Guide “Crush Band” : http://blog.allmusic.com/2008/02/07/crush-band-xyz-affair

The New Yorker - “The XYZ Affair, the local little power-pop band that could”

Spin.com - “radiate with charm, candor, and creativity"

Stereogum - "The Brooklyn power poppers deliver a perfect visual accompaniment to the rambunctious, anthemic "All My Friends": Nickelodeon stars of yesteryear."

New York Magazine - "...These four Bushwick kids aren't out to cause trouble with front man Alex Feder’s pitch-perfect whoa-oh-ohs or his fellow musicians' scrubbed-clean pop. These boys just want to have fun."
New York's The XYZ Affair has come a long way since lead singer Alex Feder's high school demos that make up their roots. Originally forming out of New York University's basketball Pep Band, the band solidified their current four person lineup – Feder on vocals and guitar, Chris Bonner on bass and backup vocals, Sam Rockwell on drums and backup vocals, and Russ Maschmeyer on guitar, keyboards, and backup vocals—just over two years ago, and has since been mastering the art of writing soaring arena rock colored with the duality of confident energy and boyish vulnerability.

With an affinity for four part harmonies, wall of sound fuzz guitars, big drums, and flashy guitar solos, the quartet has since birthed their triumphant debut A Few More Published Studies (recorded by Longwave's Shannon Ferguson, mastered by Aloha's TJ Lipple, mixed by Essex Green collaborator Britt Myers) to the liking of a growing legion of devotees.

Thanks in part to the band's fun, charming essence and raucous, understated sense of humor THE XYZ AFFAIR have only just begun to make their name known. Their career thus far has seen them self-releasing Studies, selling out New York City hotspot Mercury Lounge four times in the last year, and unleashing their viral video gem for the catchy album closer "All My Friends." The self-produced YouTube clip featuring cameos from Nickelodeon network personalities Marc Summers (former Double Dare host and Food Network personality), Jason Zimbler (Clarissa Explains It All), Danny Cooksey (Salute Your Shorts), and Michael Maronna ( The Adventures of Pete & Pete) was a major springboard for the band, garnering upwards of 15,000 views in the week of its debut with steady subsequent growth.

Far beyond the innate happiness and high energy of their songs, THE XYZ AFFAIR loves to keep you guessing, sporting an understated earnestness that sneakily shadows their explosive personality both on the stage and in the studio. Just as their songs ring out with a beckoning attitude, the music itself is beckoning to be brought to the masses.

Fountains of Wayne's Jody Porter to Release Record

CLOSE TO THE SUN OUT VIA ITUNES ON AUGUST 26, 2008

Fountains of Wayne guitarist Jody Porter is set to release his first solo record via itunes on August 26, 2008. Entitled Close to the Sun, the album is made up of 12 original songs that were recorded in New York and produced by Porter and Michael Tudor. Strokes producer Gordon Raphael also produced one song.

"Close To the Sun is a collection of songs I wrote and recorded over the last few years, in between Fountains of Wayne albums and tours," says Porter . "After working on my friends records (Albert Hammond, Jr., Juliana Hatfield), I decided it was time to put out my own. It was nice to be able to let this record come together gradually until I had the right songs to make sense together on one album."

The songs bridge the gap between the atmospherics of Porter's first band, The Belltower, with the more guitar-driven power pop of his work in Fountains of Wayne. Look for a US tour in the fall.

EQUAL VISION RECORDS ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH PORTUGAL. THE MAN AND APPROACHING AIRBALLOONS

First Release Is "Censored Colors," Out September 16, 2008
Band On Tour Through The End of The Year

July 30, 2008 - As the music industry continues to adapt to allow artists to be more involved in their careers - an act that was perhaps accelerated by Radiohead's most recent release - and the band's desire to cater more to their fans, Portugal. The Man and their label and publishing company, Approaching AIRBalloons, and Equal Vision Records have inked a unique agreement, it has been announced. The first release under this exceptional deal will be P.TM's third full-length CD, Censored Colors, set for a September 16, 2008 release.

One of the factors that makes this partnership so unique is that the members of Portugal. The Man will share in the risk as well as in the rewards with Equal Vision, something that is easier for a Platinum act (like Radiohead) than a developing artist. Having self-financed the "Censored Colors" album, and while they had other label options, P.TM welcomed the idea of having an "open canvas" with Equal Vision, where they could work at their own pace and be intimately involved in all factors of their recording career.

Under the mainstream radar, Portugal. The Man has garnered an incredible buzz with the release of two earlier full-length CDs, 2006's Walter: "You Vultures!" and 2007's Church Mouth (the latter of which debuted on the Billboard Top Alternative New Artists chart at luck #13), and three EPs, The Pines, the Devil (2006), Devil Say I, I Say Air (digital EP, 2006), and It's Complicated Being a Wizard (2007). They have amassed kudos from an array of media outlets like Filter ("Portugal The Man hasn't merely evolved from the avant-garde, neo-soul that shaped their earliest works, they've transcended it") and Alternative Press ("...it's the songs that truly set this band apart").

Portugal. The Man's unique sound has its roots firmly in front man/songwriter John Baldwin Gourley's abstract vision and unique upbringing. Gourley was raised in a remote log cabin on the outskirts of Wasilla, Alaska that was powered by a generator and had no phone. His mom and dad doubled as a team of dog sled mushers. Add in an extended period of homelessness, a love of science fiction and a desire to make music that does not sound like every other band, and the genesis of Portugal. The Man was formed. Gourley and childhood friend Zachary Scott Carothers formed P.TM in 2003 with Portland, OR's Jason Sechrist joining in 2005. To this day, PTM employs a rotating cast of guest musicians outside of the core four. Gourley is also an accomplished visual artist having created the stunning artwork for the "Censored Colors" package as well as P.TM's previous releases, tour posters, t-shirts and other items.)

The band intends to tour extensively in support of Censored Colors. P.TM - guitarist/singer/songwriter Gourley, bassist/singer Carothers, newest full-time member keyboardist/singer Ryan Neighbors, and drummer Garrett Lunceford (who replaces Jason Sechrist) - is currently on the road supporting RX Bandits for six-weeks worth of U.S. dates, will then headline a European tour from September 10 to October 4, then, beginning October 14, will headline their own 38-city U.S. tour (initial dates below). Support for this tour will be Earl Greyhound and Wintersleep.

DJ REVOLUTION "KING OF THE DECKS" ALBUM IN STORES SEPTEMBER 16th

DJ REVOLUTION “KING OF THE DECKS” ALBUM IN STORES SEPTEMBER 16th ON DUCK DOWN RECORDS

FEATURING TRACKS FROM KRS-ONE, BISHOP LAMONT, CROOKED I, JOELL ORTIZ, SEAN PRICE, DJ QBERT, BOOT CAMP CLIK, JAZZY JEFF, EVIDENCE, GUILTY SIMPSON, ROYCE DA 5’9, SPECIAL TEAMZ, DEFARI, TERMANOLOGY, TASH, RAKAA IRISCIENCE, BUMPY KNUCKLES, BLAQ POET, STRONG ARM STEADY, PLANET ASIA, DJ PREMIER

DJ Revolution said it best in a recent interview, "the connection between the DJ and the emcee has been severed. ”King of The Decks" is my attempt at reconnecting it." DJ Revolution did just that with his new album, as he brought together some of the most talented names in Hip Hop today, who not only produce quality music, but also respect the craft of the DJ Culture.

DJ Revolution has spent 15 years perfecting that craft on the SP 1200. He's currently behind the wheels of the longest running Hip Hop show in the history of commercial radio, "THE WORLD FAMOUS WAKE UP SHOW alongside Sway & King Tech.

Aside from his weekly duties on the show based out of LA on Power 106, and syndicated Worldwide, he has lent his now infamous scratch techniques to countless records and his production skills to many established artists. REV has also taken his skillz to the far corners as the globe and ripped clubs in locations such as Japan, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He has also shared the stage DJ’ing for many artists including legends like Rakim all the way to current superstars such as Kanye West. Revolution has released two of his own Full length LP’s (“In 12’s we trust/R2K”) and one with his partners Sway & Tech (“This or That”).

As DJ Revolution readies "KING OF THE DECKS," in stores on September 16th, he divulged further on the issues of the lack of communication between the MC and THE DJ stating that it "is one of the most obvious reasons Hip Hop has devolved so drastically over the years. Since MC's in general decided to toss aside the DJ as an asset and integral part of their success from production to performance, the music has suffered tremendously. My goal is to re-introduce to the world what a DJ is. He or She is not just a celebrity, or someone who plays records, or makes funny sounds with turntables. He or she is all of that and more. I recruited some of the most legendary and also most talented up and coming artists to help me express all of this within the context of the music.

The title of the album is by no means a way of saying I'm the best on the turntables. "King of the Decks" is obviously just a play on words related to a deck of cards. However, it is also a statement that needs to be remembered. The DJ is King."

Fujiya & Miyagi Announce US Tour This Fall

Pitchfork Media On “Knickerbocker” - : “F&M have also kept up their interest in some of life's finer things: motorik pulses, retro-futurist electronics, fake Japanese accents. And, OK, this Lightbulbs track doesn't always keep its things in the dark: "Vanilla, strawberry, knickerbocker, glory," Best sings, as the instruments make like metronomes. Just like that old krautrock highway where you never run out of road, they'll never run out of things to sing about.”

LA Times - “The cool professionalism with which Fujiya & Miyagi lay out their grooves is a thing of beauty.”

New York Times - “..it’s too fun and innocuous to ever tire of."

Spin Magazine - “This is dance music downsized for iPods but also indie rock expanded for the dance floor”

Pitchfork Media - "They're doing for 70s krautrock and motorik what the DFA did for early 80s electro. Indeed, without even being asked, they've gone and done the unthinkable: They've actually made krautrock fun.”
Imagine that Fujiya & Miyagi are mask-wearing technicians dissecting music, keen to magnify particles of sound to create a pulsing antidote to the ordinary. They speak in tongues, using language as a rhythm, picking words that sound good, rhyming ‘jigsaws’ with ‘carnivores’.

Their songs are incisive snapshots of real lives that make household appliances sound threatening. They are steeped in vintage music from evocative krautrock to deep soul, with wafts of early Human League synth, Floydian Englishness and the throbbing groove of Tom Tom Club, all filtered for modern times.

In total, Fujiya & Miyagi don’t really sound like anything. Instead, they sound like everything condensed into perfectly arranged three minute chunks of infectious pop music, a strange hybrid of James Brown on Valium and Wire gone pop. Or maybe Serge Gainsbourg with a PhD in electronics backed by David Byrne’s Eno-produced scratchy guitar mixed by MF Doom. It’s Darwinism gone mad.

Formed in 2000 as an electronic duo of David Best (guitars and vocals) and Steve Lewis (synths, beats, programming), they released Electro Karaoke In The Negative Style two years later, a minimal electronic set it hangs eerily on Best’s distinctive whispered vocal. Adding bass player Matt Hainsby in 2004, they released a series of ten inch EPs that took them to the hearts of fanzineland. Gathered together these parables of personal injury, both physical and mental, made up three quarters of the well-received (Pitchfork, NME, MOJO, etc) album Transparent Things in 2006. Named after a Nabokov brain dump on the relationship between the past and the present. It sums them up.

Fujiya & Miyagi stay away from lyrical themes that have been done to death. Using old synths to punctuate their beautifully-observed anecdotes on romantic triumphs and disasters, heroes and villains and the world at large, their rhythms palpitate to produce modern symphonies like no-one else. Light Bulbs is a journey littered with fragmented images, anecdotes from the sublime to the ridiculous, blurry stories that you feel you shouldn’t have overheard. Each track an aural contamination set to itch your inner ear every waking moment.

Pilot Speed enter the studio with Dennis Herring

INTO THE WEST FOLLOW-UP TO BE RELEASED ON

WIND-UP RECORDS IN EARLY 2009

New York --- Canadian quartet Pilot Speed have entered Sweet Tea Studios in Oxford, Mississippi with legendary producer Dennis Herring to record the follow-up to the band’s INTO THE WEST (2006). The prior album delivered growing roots in the U.S, as they emerged as a major act in Canada with a Juno nomination, top-twenty album, top-ten single, and a Much Music video award. This upcoming release is poised to become a breakthrough for Pilot Speed.

Herring’s illustrious career offers a past discography that naturally leads to Pilot Speed in 2008. In the Eighties, he emerged with the massive Timbuk 3 track “The Future’s So Bright You Gotta Wear Shades,” and produced Camper Van Beethoven’s albums Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart and Key Lime Pie. In the Nineties, releases included those from Throwing Muses, Concrete Blonde, The Innocence Mission, The Ocean Blue and Counting Crows. This decade has seen Herring deliver works from Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, and The Hives.

On working with Herring, Pilot Speed’s Todd Clark shared, “We are all thrilled, and flattered to have the opportunity to work with Dennis. There is a certain leap of faith involved in choosing a producer. Dennis’ outstanding track record and reputation serve to make that leap awfully exciting... I do believe the end product will be some very special recordings.”

Pilot Speed’s four members all provide multiple contributions to their work in the studio as evidenced in the credits from INTO THE WEST: Todd Clark (Vocals, Guitar, Piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond Organ), Chris Greenough (Guitars, Synths, Wurlitzer, Reed Organs), Ruby Bumrah (Bass Guitar, Vocals) and Bill Keeley (Drums, Glockenspiel, Chimes, Shakers, Tambourine). The upcoming release is slated for early-2009.

Nachtmystium have been blowing minds with their psychedelic tittie-twist to black metal this entity has progressed to with the release of Assasins: Black Meddle Part 1. Just check the recent covers of Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer and CMJ New Music Monthly as well as the massive coverage by Decibel Magazine, Metalkult.com and the amazingly ongoing list of online and regional press, and the fan response if you need proof...

Don The Reader Announces Debut Full-Length, "Humanesque," out October 7th on Deathcote Records!

Churning out a technical racket in the vein of Botch or early Every Time I Die, this is a malevolent beast of a record - 9 / 10 Outburn Magazine

With the new songs in the mag and the gun aimed, the group recorded the new EP over the course of a few months this past winter with friend Chris Ozeene. Although the sessions were hampered by both financial and situational setbacks, what emerged is a sweltering testament to the ingenuity present in modern aggressive music. The songs explode like a twelve gauge: abrasive riffs searing of modern hardcore and traditional metal influences merging with a capable but schizophrenic rhythm section and Roberts devastating vocal performances. At times, though, there is peace, and the songs break for a passage of calm where the guitars reach the outer realms of a reverb-induced trance and the whole band catches their breath before launching right back into the mayhem.

For now, the members of Don The Reader all live within five miles of each other. Its an area they know well they all grew up there but Los Angeles has always been a bizarre wasteland of pop culture. The situation does have its advantages, though. Living in LA gives us more of a reason to write obscure music, says McCullough We want to scare the shit out of the common folk but at the same time reach out to them and help them break out of their shell. Soon, home will be a distant memory as larger opportunities a label, non-stop touring, a new album begin to manifest themselves. And for a bunch of dudes sitting on a nuclear bomb of potential, the only things that'll be left in their wake are the remnants of destruction.

PIT ER PAT To Release HIGH TIME This Fall!

Thrill Jockey is pleased to announce the imminent arrival of High Time on October 21st! The new album finds Chicago's Pit Er Pat exploring new sonic territory, pushing boundaries, and continuing to defy categorization. Fay is playing a lot more guitar, her wiry guitar lines holding down the rhythm, while Rob and Butchy are using an array of new percussive instruments, sequencers and beat making machines to supplement their already tight grooves, and in general the band has once again branched out to experiment and explore new sounds which are completely different from their previous albums yet remain undeniably Pit Er Pat. A feat that elludes many bands. Keep an eye out for an extensive US tour in support of High Time this fall!

PIT ER PAT - HIGH TIME:

Pit Er Pat is Fay Davis-Jeffers (vocals, piano, guitar, kalimba), Rob Doran (bass, vocals, guitar, electronics) and Butchy Fuego (drums, vocals, percussion, electronics/programming). High Time was recorded at the bands own studio, "Top Cat", by Butchy Fuego, who has also recently recorded Soft Circle and Matteah Baim.

It is important to note that whilst layered with many delicate details the record was not assembled like a collage. Pit Er Pat instead wanted to be sure to capture the energy of the performances, so little or no editing was done on the basic tracking. From song to song the album unfolds revealing many aspects of the band's aesthetic attitude - from the raw, lively sound of "The Cairo Shuffle," to the mellow, slinky funk of "Omen," to the expansive swirling celebration of "The Good Morning Song." The powerful focused energy in the music is consistent throughout. Even the more laid back grooves on songs such as "My Darkers" have this undeniable bounce to them. High Time is a perfect elixir for your Indian Summer. Its gentle and driving grooves are irresistible and its delicate layers reveal with every listen.

TRACK LISTING:

1. Anno IV:xx
2. Evacuation Days
3. Omen
4. My Darkers
5. Copper Pennies
6. The Cairo Shuffle
7. Creation Stepper

Cradle of Filth Announce "Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder" as New Album Title

New York, NY: Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who's the blackest of them all? Why, Cradle of Filth, of course. England's most notorious and nefarious metal band are gearing up to release their darkest, most dastardly album of all, titled Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder, for Roadrunner Records on October 28. The album, which will have a special edition with an extra disc and bonus material, arrives just in time for Halloween, a holiday that fits Cradle of Filth's blackened, ghostly aesthetic.

The album is conceptual and is based on the well-documented, true-life fall from grace of a shadowy historical figure named Gilles de Rais, a wealthy French nobleman who was one of Joan of Arc's brothers-in-arms. He was best known, however, as a prolific serial killer who mixed prayers with his nightly murders as well as an aspiring alchemist. He was accused of a panoply of crimes, among them heresy, demonology and kidnapping. There's even an extreme fringe sect of historians who question de Rais' true status, with some convinced he was framed.

Cradle of Filth's vocalist Dani Filth elaborated on the album's concept, saying, "By far this is our most extreme, dramatic and deeply disturbing album to date. The legend of Gilles de Rais has been given fresh, vampyrical life in this conceptual meisterwerk, swathed in pitch-black magic and a viciousness unsurpassed in the annals of Cradle history. Screw what our detractors say, everyone who has heard this album has bruised their jaws on the pentagram-bejewelled floor."

The tracklisting for Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder is as follows:

"In Grandeur And Frankincense Devilment Stirs"
"Shat Out Of Hell"

The Caribbean: Tour Dates/Remix EP/Daytrotter/New Website

Washington, DC's The Caribbean (Hometapes) is embarking on a flurry of tour dates over the next month, still in support of Populations (HT018), their most recent release. Scott Solter (Spoon, Mountain Goats, John Vanderslice) just completed a remix of five songs from said release -- tentatively titled Scott Solter RePopulates The Caribbean -- which will see release before the end of 2008. The band is also excited to be guests of Daytrotter on this current tour; those sessions will be made available in the next few months. Lastly, the band has just launched a new website to replace their infamous corporate send-up site that's been their home since the early 'oughts, although the old version is still available as a static, dust-collecting museum piece only.

Catch the Caribbean live:
Jul 28: Vaudeville Mews, Des Moines, IA
Jul 29: Big V's, St. Paul, MN
Jul 30: Daytrotter Session, Rock Island, IL
Jul 30: Empty Bottle, Chicago, IL (w/The Boy Bathing)
Jul 31: Mac's Bar, Lansing, MI
Aug 1: Bela Dubby, Cleveland, OH
Aug 2: Howler's Coyote Cafe, Pittsburgh, PA
Aug 3: The Manhattan Room, Philadelphia, PA
Aug 13: Glasslands, Brooklyn, NY

Populations, the critically-adored album from The Caribbean, was released in 2008 The super-literate bureaucrats from DC put together soft-spoken, artfully crafted, and slightly askew pop music that has tinges of jazz and experimental music laid over the band's typical wry musings about dinosaurs, German composers, and life.

Download: The Caribbean--"The Go From Tactical"

"Washington D.C.'s the Caribbean make music that just shouldn't work, and yet it has for some time now. Michael Kentoff's lyrics are written as though he never thought of putting them in a song. There's little rhyming, little conventional pop organization, just thoughts in complete sentences, laid out in winding phrases over complex, ever-shifting arrangements. And yet he pulls it off, somehow." -Pitchfork Media

"The band's third album Populations is their most delicate collection of expansive encyclopedia-pop, where fleshed-out scenes float through skeletal (but compositionally rich) bedroom transmissions. Or it can get especially subtle: referencing the end of the Go-Betweens via an Elliott Smith-redolent vocal line. That overall impulse toward hushed minutiae ends up sounding something like extinct D.C.-area crew Eggs hooking up with Franklin Bruno for a late-night whisper session." - Stereogum (from Quit Your Day Jobs)

"Over the years the Caribbean has been perfecting an unlikely style of pop music: melodic, yes, and in tune with the history of songcraft, but also filled with secrets. Its construction resembles minimalist architecture, with hidden depths. Their songs are a skeletal framework for a universe of questions." - Erasing Clouds

SCARS ON BROADWAY TO KICK OFF DEBUT RECORD RELEASE WITH EXCLUSIVE LOS ANGELES EVENT

Concert To Be Broadcast LIVE On Scars' Website

Los Angeles, CA - July 23, 2008 -- Scars on Broadway, the collaboration between guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan, will launch the highly-anticipated release of their self-titled debut with an exclusive concert in the band's hometown of Los Angeles on Monday, July 28, the night before the CD hits stores. The special show, presented by L.A. radio powerhouse KROQ-FM, will be held in the massive and ornate lobby of downtown's railway terminal, Union Station, and will be simulcast live at www.scarsonbroadway.com beginning at 9:25PM PT/12:25AM ET. All details to view the web broadcast, which is being powered by iStreamPlanet and Microsoft Silverlight, can be found on the band's website.

To receive one of the limited number of wristbands that gains entry into this special performance, fans will pre-purchase the new Scars on Broadway CD beginning at 7:00PM on Monday evening at a special Best Buy tent to be set up at Union Station. The CDs at Union Station will be autographed exclusively for this event by Daron and John from Scars on Broadway.

L.A.'s Union Station is a fitting place to celebrate the CD's release; not only were Daron and John raised in the area, but Union Station has been the setting for quite a bit of Hollywood celluloid throughout the decades - "Speed," "Blade Runner," "Star Trek: First Contact," and the Fox TV's series, "24" have all filmed there.

Scars on Broadway has already played a handful of live shows, including Coachella 2008, where the Los Angeles Times singled them out as "one of the festival's hottest highlights." They also opened for Metallica at an L.A. benefit gig - SPIN said that their set "made it clear how little System's hiatus has dulled each man's hyperactive creativity." The band's European tour kicks off in Paris on August 29, and they will headline a North American trek beginning in October.

M83 TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

"70mm songs for John Hughes movies yet to be filmed."
– Rolling Stone

Following a sold-out US tour in May and June and his recent performance at the two-date Download Festival in Southern California, M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) will be back to tour North America this November. Brooklyn's School of Seven Bells are set to open.

The tour is in support of M83's fifth album "Saturdays = Youth" released April 2008 on Mute. "Saturdays = Youth" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top New Artist Heatseekers Chart and went #1 on the CMJ Top 200.

It also met with widespread critical acclaim including an 8.5/10 review ranking from Pitchfork, an 8/10 review ranking from Wired, and a Remix cover story (April). Black Book says the album evokes "the spiritual atmospherics of Sigur Ros and My Bloody Valentine's epic shoegaze sprawl…the results stun in glorious slow motion."

The M83 live setup for this tour includes Gonzalez on vocals, guitars and keyboards, Loic Maurin on Drums, Pierre-Marie Maulini on bass and guitar and featured album vocalist Morgan Kibby (of LA-based band The Romanovs) on vocals and keyboards.

While in New York wrapping up their tour with The Kooks, the benders recorded a performance for Limewire’s first ever ‘Live@Lime' Session. Live@Lime consists of casual recording sessions, resulting in an EP that will be sold exclusively through their digital store. The session took place at Headgear Studios in Brooklyn (birthplace of records by Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The National, TV on the Radio, Son Volt, among others and neighbor to the +1 compound]. The benders decided to spontaneously compose and record alternative versions of some of the tracks off of ‘talking through tin cans’ and the results are refreshingly low-fi and charmingly raw. To listen for yourself, peep the Limewire Store.

‘talking through tin cans’ was just recently selected as iTunes ‘Editors Choice’, which led to the album breaking the iTunes Top 20 album charts (#18) and Top 10 alternative album charts (#8) and put the band on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart (#8) and Indie Album Chart (#30). Pretty crazy stuff…

The album has appeared on the music homepages of Youtube, MySpace, Imeem, Rhapsody, Emusic and Limewire and has been getting props from all over the media and blogosphere, including MTV News, E! News, Spin.com Artist of the Day, LA Times Buzz Band, Blender, Filter ‘Getting To Know’ feature, Nylon, Playboy, Paste, Venice, LA Weekly, Boston Globe, Boston Phoenix, Boston Herald, NY Daily News, L Magazine, Metromix, AllMusic.com, Stereogum,AOL Spinner, RCRDLBL, The Tripwire, Flavorpill, Brooklyn Vegan, Prefix Mag, The Sentimentalist, Little Radio, and much much more.

Of course, none of these great opportunities would have been possible without all the amazing hometown support the morning benders have received from the good people in the Bay Area, which has spread nationwide.

Along with the awesome radio support from Aaron Axelsen on Live105 'Soundcheck' and the homie Dennis the Menace on his 'Just Another Menace Sunday' show on KUSF, we’d like to give shout-outs to the esteemed Bay Area publications who have given the band their stamp of approval and whom have been instrumental in the morning benders becoming a national story. These include: SF Weekly, SF Bay Guardian, San Francisco Magazine, 7x7, West Coast Performer, AMP, East Coast Express, SF Daily, The Owl, The Bay Bridged, SF Station, The Daily Californian, The Daily Republic, East Bay Express, Haight Ashbury Beat and one of our favorite local blogs, I Pick My Nose.

Damon Albarn & Jamie Hewlett Present MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST

ALBUM TO BE RELEASED THIS FALL ON XL RECORDINGS
Monkey: Journey To The West The Opera July 23 London Premiere At The Royal Opera House

JOURNEY TO THE WEST, an album conceived and created by Damon Albarn (music) and Jamie Hewlett (visuals) under the guise of MONKEY, will be released in North America this fall by XL Recordings.

Created by the GORILLAZ team of Albarn and Hewlett, JOURNEY TO THE WEST is performed by an assortment of European and Chinese musicians and singers and was produced by Albarn. The album's packaging does likewise, moving beyond the stunning design of the opera MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST and exploring to the fullest its characters, storylines, themes and inspirations.

MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST, the opera upon which the album is based, makes its London Premiere July 23 at the Royal Opera House. A singular and unique fusion of traditional mandarin opera/folklore and modern audiovisual interpretation, MONKEY... is the result of director Chen Shi-Zheng having enlisted GORILLAZ masterminds Albarn and Hewlett to provide unique, modern musical and visual interpretations of the themes and characters of this most beloved work of Chinese folklore. The live production utilizes nearly 40 Chinese circus acrobats, martial artists and singers from China and an orchestra of Western and traditional Chinese instruments.

MONKEY: JOURNEY TO THE WEST is performed in Mandarin with subtitles, its storyline chronicling the Monkey King's journey to enlightenment as it takes him undersea, to decadent banquets in heaven, through encounters with Spider Maidens and Skeleton Demons, and eventually to paradise. The album, which was recorded in London and Beijing over the last year, follows this narrative, opening with "Monkey's World," proceeding to a "Heavenly Peach Banquet," enduring a "Battle In Heaven," encountering "The White Skeleton Demon" and so on, all the way through to the finale' of "Disappearing Volcano."

The album runs 50 minutes and consists of 22 instrumental and vocal tracks. The full track listing is:
1. Monkey's World

Cancer Bats Kickoff US Tour w/ Bullet For My Valentine and Bleeding Through * Announce UK Tour w/ Funeral For A Friend!

The young Canadian cats in the Cancer Bats pummel with new-school hardcore, old-school punk, and dirty NOLA metal. Full of youthful energy and great chops, their second full-length never sounds forced, and the first two tracks alone kick more ass than most bands' entire discographies. - Revolver Magazine

If anyone out there is worried that the Bats might have gone soft, they can rest assured that this is by far their most hostile release. - Punknews.org

Cancer Bats have uprooted their punk/hardcore foundation to become a monolithic metal/hardcore monster, carrying the torch for heavy music emanating from the Toronto area. With their new record, Hail Destroyer, the quartet have spread their ribbed wings and concocted a fierce, prolonged bark that crushes more efficiently than their past work and helps them to escape certain, ahem, associations they've previously been pigeonholed with. - Alternative Press

The Great White North gives us a blast of pummeling riffs and jagged tempos as Toronto's own Cancer Bats celebrate the release of their much awaited sophomore full length Hail Destroyer on Black Market Activities w/ a massive US tour w/ metalcore heroes Bullet For My Valentine and Bleeding Through. Hail Destroyer sees Cancer Bats mature sonically and evolving as they incorporate the past, present of hardcore while they pave out its future.

From the fury of proto punk acts like Black Flag and Minor Threat, as they tip their hats to the indie-core legends such as From Ashes Rise, Converge and The Bronx and remain cut from a somewhat similarly coarse cloth of the movers and shakers in the realm of post-hardcore and metal such as Cursed, EyeHateGod, and Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats' charging riffs and blaring anthem-like hooks are right for fist pumping and whirlpool circle pits, perching them on a wholly unique level.

Swooping like a rabid bat out of, uh, Canada, Cancer Bats give a rowdy anddefiant clobbering to the eardrums all the way down to the bone. Consider yourself warned as we aren't responsible for anything broken or destroyed within earshot of whatever stereo this album is playing from.

LIZ PHAIR TO PERFORM 'EXILE IN GUYVILLE' IN PHILADELPHIA, DC & BOSTON

'EXILE IN GUYVILLE' REISSUE AVAILABLE NOW
ON ATO RECORDS

In celebration of the 15th year anniversary of the groundbreaking album Exile in Guyville and its reissue by ATO Records, Liz Phair will perform the entire album at three engagements: August 27 at Theater of the Living Arts in Philadelphia; August 28 at 9:30 Club in Washington DC; and August 29 at The Paradise in Boston. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 23 via Ticketmaster.

These three additional shows come on the heels of four hugely successful sold out June events - two in New York City and one in each San Francisco and Chicago. Said Jon Pareles of The New York Times in his recent review of one of Phair's Exile in Guyville shows, "After 15 years of other people's indie-rock idiosyncrasies, "Exile" still holds up in all its conflicting impulses: its determination to be 'adamantly free' and its longing for someone to trust, its swagger and its pain." A modern classic, Pitchfork recently gave the album a 9.6 rating while both Rolling Stone and Blender gave Exile in Guyville a perfect score of five stars ("*****").

Exile in Guyville, which was out of print, is again available on CD, vinyl and - for the first time ever - in digital format. The special reissue package includes three never-before-released songs from the original recording sessions: "Ant in Alaska," with Phair simply accompanying herself on guitar, "Say You," which features Phair and a full band, and an untitled instrumental with Liz on guitar. Phair has also just completed a new, 80-minute DVD, "Guyville Redux," for the reissue.

In "Guyville Redux" - which features an introduction by Dave Matthews, founder/co-owner of ATO Records - Liz and the "guys" of Guyville take us back to the making of the album, the male-dominated, Chicago independent music scene of the early 1990's (which included Urge Overkill, Material Issue, and Smashing Pumpkins), and the Wicker Park neighborhood where it all happened. Phair interviews Gerard Cosloy and Chris Lombardi of Matador Records, which originally released the record, famed indie producer Steve Albini, Ira Glass of NPR's "This American Life," John Henderson of the elusive indie label Feel Good All Over, Brad Wood (producer of Exile In Guyville), John Cusack (who founded the Chicago avant-garde theater group New Crime Productions), Urge Overkill, and more.

Conceived as a song-by-song response to the Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street, Exile in Guyville was released in 1993, and ranked #1 that year on both the Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll and Spin magazine's year-end critics poll. Incredibly influential to this day, its place as a seminal rock album has been reaffirmed by its inclusion in countless historical "best of" lists over the past 15 years, including: "Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time," Spin's "100 Greatest Albums, 1985-2005," Rolling Stone's "Women in Rock (the 50 essential albums)," Blender's "Best Indie Rock Albums of All Time," Pitchfork's "Top 100 Albums of the 1990's," and VH1's "Greatest Albums Of All Time," to name but a few. Exile in Guyville is, in the words of Pitchfork, "a certifiable indie roadtrip classic."

Phair is currently working on new studio album for the fall.

FEAT ARTIST COMMENTARY & NEW RECORDINGS

Following a successful UK summer festival tour, Goldfrapp brings their live show back to North America with a tour kicking off September 12, 2008 at the venerable Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Goldfrapp will also release the "Caravan Girl" Digital EP on Mute July 22, 2008. The EP features the "Caravan Girl" album cut, a live choral version, a live acoustic version of "Monster Love" and an Animal Collective Remix of the song "Little Bird."

In addition, Goldfrapp will release an iTunes Originals Session on August 12, 2008. Recorded at NYC's Electric Lady Studios, the session includes newly recorded versions of longtime Goldfrapp favorites such as "Strict Machine," "Ooh La La," and "Paper Bag" and newly recorded versions of songs from "Seventh Tree" such as "Eat Yourself," Road To Somewhere" and "Little Bird." The session – which is available exclusively through iTunes – also includes selected album tracks from the full Goldfrapp catalog as well as commentary and anecdotes from the band.

Goldfrapp are Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory. Their debut album "Felt Mountain" was released in 2000 to widespread acclaim and was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2001. Goldfrapp’s second album "Black Cherry" followed in 2003 and marked a stylistic departure from its predecessor. In 2005, Goldfrapp returned with the critically-acclaimed and GRAMMY®-nominated album "Supernature." The bands latest album "Seventh Tree," released 2008, was certified Gold in the UK in its first week of release and has been called "a cinematic experience" by Rolling Stone and "resolutely dreamy…perfect pop" by Marie Claire.

Goldfrapp's tour of the states in April 2008 included an appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The band – who performed on the Late Show with Jay Leno and on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” in April 2008 – was the featured performance on NPR's World Café June 9th 2008. The session, produced by Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel), was recorded at the world-renowned Avatar Studios in NYC.

In June 2008 Good Morning America featured the video for "Seventh Tree's" second single; "Happiness" on their top-rated morning program. The video is now in rotation at VH1.

THE FIRST KNIGHT OF HOUSE IS BACK WITH AN ALL NEW DANCEFLOOR-WRECKING MIX

The next instalment of the Toolroom Knights mix series sees label head honcho and Ministry of Sound resident Mark Knight step up to deliver a cutting-edge mix of future classics and forward thinking house music released on September 9, 2008.

This double-disc collection covers the length and breadth of the house music spectrum, moving from shades of legendary US producers right through to the current crop of ultra-talented UK and European artists. It is a sound that Mark has lovingly cultivated over many years of solid gigging and through releasing a staggeringly consistent collection of quality music via his Toolroom imprint. The mix is by no means a straight run-through of current big tunes, rather a musical journey that takes in album exclusives, drawn-out mixing and carefully placed accapellas to coax the maximum levels of impact out of the records.

CD1 begins with a definite soulful house vibe running through it. Mark’s own edit of Cloud Kickers ‘Bring On the Night’ opens the disc in blissfully orchestral fashion which then makes way for Charles Webster’s fantastic remix of US house kingpin Dennis Ferrer’s ‘How Do I Let Go’. The appearance of current deep house favourite Quarion provides a perfect segue into the more tech-orientated sounds such as Radioslave’s remix of ‘Elevation’ by Jerome Sydenham &Tiger Stripes and album exclusive ‘Scratch & Sniff’ by Nic Fanciulli. The disc closes in frenetic fashion thanks to Mark’s own remix of Underworld’s ‘Beautiful Burnout’, a track that comes across like a later-day version of Lil Louis classic ‘French Kiss’.

By contrast CD2 skips the niceties and goes straight for the jugular. Opening up with Justin Drake’s remix of Tom Noise & Dan Tait’s ‘360 Days’ the early stages of the disc are centred on dark, driving bass lines and incessant grooves that pin you down into the zone and don’t let go. Steve Mac & Paul Harris’s ‘You’ moves the mix into slightly more melodic territory, while it is twisted out by Mark’s expert mixing style. The track paves the way for another album exclusive in the form of ATFC’s ‘Bad Weed’ with its monster bass stomp and tribal percussion. The journey comes to a climactic finale with Workidz ‘Washmachine’ and Elvis Benait & Tony Gomez’s ‘Gate One’ sitting back-to-back, shifting the energy levels up one more notch before the curtain falls.

Mark explains, “I wanted to create a shortened edition of my epic main room sets at Ministry of Sound, building from very soulful to full on Techno, and with CD2 give people a taste of what’s now and future on my label Toolroom”.

There is no doubt with this latest Toolroom mix he has achieved his objective.

"jam-packed with exclusive cuts, re-edits, acapellas and the rest, Knight has gone all-out to bring a flavour of his Ministry residency to disc" - M8

"It's about time label boss Mark Knight gave us his take on what's becoming one of the most reliable mix series to have emerged in recent times. Needless to say, he doesn't disappoint. A true journey from deep house to monstrous rolling techno" - IDJ Mag

Modular Presents is proud to announce that the two leaders of this century’s Australian electronic music scene have joined forces to storm across America for a joint-headline tour of North America this September and October. The Modular labelmates are supporting their current albums In Ghost Colours and Apocalypso respectively.

Expect a friendly but fierce rivalry to blow each other off the stage, very cool production, a special guest to be announced soon, and a date or two to be added where there seem to be obvious omissions.
